1 The Drag Race By: Luke Wedewer Brian is enjoying his first day in his new town, Dubuque,Iowa. He is joyriding with his black lab, Duke. Brian is tall, average for weight, has brown hair and brown eyes and he is ripped. He is twenty-two years old, drinks a lot and has a Chevy Corvette with an automatic transmission that his rich father had bought him. Brian has a big chunk of money to, from racing his car on the streets of New York, New York. In New York Brian would do drift races, or in other words, races that you would have to skid to do better and you have to be in first to win. He had to do something, though, to hide from the cops because of his reputation with the cops, so he decided he would try laying low for a while, or leave the state. Leaving the state seemed way to much fun compared to laying low. With leaving the state, he figures he can still race his Corvette with his awesome driving skills. He drinks a lot while racing because he thinks it helps calm him down from adrenaline rushes and he thinks that it helps his driving skills. He also might drink just for the fun of it. Brian is almost always at least buzzed from alcohol so he can do better, or at least think that he is doing better than he would with being sober. The only thing that scares Brian is muscle cars, because of all of their power, but Brian didn t have to worry about muscle cars in New York because you would have to be really stupid to try drifting with a muscle car. Brian plans on buying a muscle car, but first he has to see how people race in this small city. Brian doesn t have to worry to much about faster cars though because he has a Corvette and he knows that not very many cars are faster than his, or better than his on that note. Brian gets ready for his first race in Dubuque against a 1979 Monte Carlo. The race starter, Jeff, warns Brian that Vin Diesel would be a way better racer and that the chances of him losing were really high, but Brian didn t listen to him. The race is going to be for pinks, or a different term would be, ownership papers.

2 Hey you re goin down, Monte Carlos SUCK for drift races! Brian screams at his opponent over the blaring motors. Buddy, this is a drag race not a drift, you might wanna rethink about who s going down! replies Brian s opponent, Vin Diesel. Brian begins to panic but stays in the race because he doesn t want to look like a chicken. Ready, Set, GO! screams Jeff, who set up the race. Vin Diesel s Monte pops a wheelie off the line, but goes back down when he has to shift into second gear. While Brian s Corvette gives a loud roar as the R.P.M.s go up as fast as the Monte Carlo s front tires go up. But, when Brian s car has to shift again it is just under one hundred and twenty miles-per-hour, but Vin Diesel is already across the finish line. The race is the most intense race he has ever been in, even though he lost by a lot. Brian would have done a lot better if he would ve had a car with manual transmission, but he still probably would ve lost. After the race, Jeff gives Brian and Duke a ride home because he feels sorry for partnering Brian with a way better racer, even though he warned Brian earlier. When Brian gets home he starts drinking. The next night Jeff comes back to see if Brian is doing any better, he isn t. Jeff counts thirty empty beer bottles on the floor and one empty bottle of Black Velvet. When Jeff finds Brian, he tells him of the Chevelle that he found for sale. Brian, there you are, I have a great idea that I saw on my way here! exclaimed Jeff. How the hell do you see an idea? interrogates Brian. I saw a Chevelle that you could buy and get better at drag races, answers Jeff. Give me more information on the Chevelle! commands Brian. Then we have to go see the owner, I only saw it for about a second on my way here, says Jeff. Okay let s go now then, says Brian.

3 When they get there a man named Tyler greets them. Tyler is nice and asks them if they want to see the Chevelle. They go to the garage where Tyler just parked the Chevelle. Could you give us some information about it? asks Brian Well, as you can see, it s black, manual transmission, and is in really good condition for being made in answers Tyler. 1969! exclaims Brian, That s the best model ever for Chevelles! Anyway, I never was very hard on it, because I think if you treat your car nicely it ll treat you nicely, so do you want to buy it? questions Tyler. First how much will it cost me? interrogates Brian. Only fifteen grand, Tyler answers proudly. Jeff and Brian look at each other with big grins across their faces as Brian buys the Chevelle. Jeff sets up the races for Brian, and everyday they become better friends. After about a year of racing with his Chevelle, Brian earns about two hundred and fifty thousand dollars and another police reputation. Jeff? asks Brian, Do you think that if I bought a better car that I would be ready to win back my Corvette? I think you could, answers Jeff, Actually, I would put money on it that you would win, as long as you stick with Chevy muscle cars. I m thinking about buying a Camaro, states Brian. Awesome, I was going to recommend a Camaro, says Jeff. Then a Camaro it is, says Brian. They go to a Chevy dealership and found a 1981 blue Camaro. The Camaro is about twenty-thousand dollars because the Camaro is barely used. Brian buys the Camaro and customizes it with vinyles, performance and other upgrades for looks. Brian puts really awesome red and yellow flame stickers on it, which cost five hundred dollars. Then he buys a spoiler that costs about one thousand dollars.

4 Then he buys a new hood for it which is one thousand five hundred dollars. After that he goes to buy performance, the expensive stuff. Brian gets a V10 motor, Goodyear street tires, nitrous, a turbo charger, and better exhaust pipes just to get started.then he installs a new C.P.U. to make the car go faster. Now for more accessories He decides that he needs a red neon trunk audio, and to finish it off he buys scissor doors. In the end all of that cost him about one hundred fiftytwo thousand dollars. Brian has seventy-five thousand dollars left over. Brian and Jeff tune the Camaro which tunes out at one hundred and eighty-one miles-per-hour. Now all Jeff needs to do is find Vin Diesel and set up another race between him and Brian. Jeff finds Vin Diesel, but he also upgraded his new Corvette. At the starting line, Brian and Vin Diesel have a little chat. Once again they are racing for pinks, but to spice it up a bit, they also put in fifty thousand dollars each. Hey buddy, I can t believe that you re going to give me your Camaro now too, states Vin Diesel. Wow, I can t believe its been a year since I ve been in my Corvette, says Brian. Yea and just think, you won t be in it ever again, Vin Diesel says while laughing an evil laugh. Ready, Set, GO! yells Jeff as the racers peel out. Crap, I forgot that this has an automatic transmission! screams Vin Diesel as he reaches for the shifter that isn t there. Brian barely managed to keep the front wheels on the ground as he takes off. Brian wins by a lot and reaches a high speed of one hundred and sixty-five miles-perhour. Brian beats Vin Diesel by so much because Vin Diesel doesn t even finish. A little bit more than half way the Corvettes motor blew up. The cops were alerted about the illegal street race and were on their way there to bust some people. Brian picks up Jeff and they go to Brian s house to lay low. But, no one went to goes up Vin Diesel so he is busted and has to serve thirty years of prison because of his huge reputation with the cops.

5 Brian thinks that he might take his Camaro back to New York and show everyone his new skills. After the race with Vin Diesel Brian becomes known as D.K. or in other words, Drag King, or at least in Dubuque, Iowa. When Brian gets to New York, he knows that the cops weren t as worried about him, for now, so he stays and whips everybody who challenges him at a drag. Brian and Duke have everything they need except for a girl and the Corvette that Brian lost when the motor blew in it s final drag.
