1 CORONAT Issue No: 328 Date: 23rd May 2016 HAPPY BIRTHDAY YOUR MAJESTY The whole school celebrated the Queen s 90th birthday with a traditional tea party complete with food, games and singing. Parents joined us to watch the children make paper aeroplanes to re-enact their own Red Arrows flypast and we all sang the national anthem. All the children were presented with a souvenir medal. We asked the children to design a special celebration cake for the Queen s birthday. The lucky winners pictured here had their designs printed onto cakes, shared amongst the children and parents. Well done to everyone who took part! The children planted seeds inside the material, watering them and watching their hogs grow spikes over the past few weeks. The Book Fair was a great success! A huge thank you to everyone who supported the event which raised an amazing 290 to spend on educational resources. We were also able to select 15 books from the fantastic selection on offer.

4 CLASS ASSEMBLIES We have watched two excellent class assemblies from Years 3 and 5. Year 3 presented their assembly on the topic of The Ancient Greeks. We learnt about their traditions and ancient mythology in a very interesting assembly with great costumes! Well done Year 3! THEY RE GROWING! Year 2 have been looking after their potato harvest as the KS1 competition to grow the most potatoes hots up! All the potatoes are now shooting and coming along nicely. How many are in the tubs is yet to be revealed! FLYING AWAY Our caterpillars have now all transformed and emerged from the chrysalis as beautiful butterflies. The children released their butterflies in the garden and some were able to see them up close as they perched before spreading their wings and flying away. Year 5 gave us their assembly based around friendship. Their excellent presentation showed us about good friendships and what happens when we extend the hand of friendship. The children created an amazing collage showing a friendship circle. Excellent work Year 5!

5 FUN WITH SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING Our science and engineering day was a great success, packed full of fun, exciting and messy activities for the children all based around the topic of space. The slime room proved popular - where KS1 made Alien slime! They also made moon rock cakes and learnt to walk on the moon and tasted real astronaut food including strawberries. KS2 painted giant planets and discovered how difficult it was to do every day things whilst wearing space suit gloves. They made space drinks and designed and constructed a Mars vehicle. 6 DON T FORGET TO VISIT THE WEBSITE FOR MORE PHOTOS! FUN IN THE SUN! KS1 made the most of the sunny weather and visited the park for some fun in the sun. How does your garden grow? Year 1 have been potting and planting flowers to make our front garden look beautiful. The children planted the borders with seedlings they had grown in the classroom. UPPER CRUST SANDWICHES Year 1 chopped, mixed and created some egg sandwiches which they then enjoyed eating together. The children did everything from scratch, practising using knives to chop, spread and cut. SMOOTHIES Reception have been blitzing and blending then testing out some healthy smoothies using fruit and spinach. By the look on Sebastian s face, the smoothies were a hit!

7 Please help by donating items for the Fair. If you would like to help on the day, please let Mrs Cardwell know. BOTTLES For the mystery bottle stall. We need anything that comes in a bottle please! This can be glass or plastic - Shampoo, Ketchup, Lemonade, Bubble Bath etc! GRAND RAFFLE LUXURY HAMPERS These are luxury hampers made up by each class for the Grand Raffle. Each class has chosen a theme and we would be grateful for any donations in the following categories: Reception: Fun in the Sun Year 3: Summer Spa Year 1: Gardening Year 4: The Beach Year 2: Picnic Year 5: Afternoon Tea Year 6: BBQ TOMBOLA A traditional Tombola stand! We need Lots of items including tins, bottles, toiletries and chocolate etc! CAKE STALL AND CAKE GIFT BOXES We need a selection of cakes we can sell on the stall and to make up into cake gift boxes. DVDs AND CDs Any good quality films or CDs for the children to buy are needed to make a great display for the Fair.. LUCKY DIP One of the most popular stalls. We are looking for small, good quality items that the children will enjoy winning in the lucky dip. GIFT HAMPERS We make hampers from new items donated, which make beautiful gifts at great value prices. The hampers are themed and examples are food, chocolate, children s, stationery, baking etc JEWELLERY Good quality items of jewellery the children might like to buy as gifts.
