1 How to organise the Party Pirate s Treasure Party The Pirate s Treasure Party is a fun, energetic, treasure hunt adventure. Great for boys but girls will enjoy it too. Be prepared to walk the plank, sword fight, solve clues, find a treasure map, hunt crocodiles, translate ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics and have an adventure that will not easily be forgotten. You can choose to dress as Pirates, or play a Tomb Raider style game where you are searching for Pirates Treasure. Guests will be divided into two teams and the winning team gets a head start at digging up the treasure.
2 1. Before the day Read the instructions through. Decide on what games you would like your Pirates/Tomb Raiders to play along the way to finding the treasure and prepare for them. Why not buy all your fancy dress and party decorations, tableware from one place (see my website for suppliers Prepare a treasure - A treasure chest with gold coins (chocolate ones) and jewels (sweets or toy jewellery) is good, or what about a treasure chest piñata hung on a tree (you can buy these on the internet please look at my website for suppliers of treasure chests, piñatas and chocolate gold coins). Decide whether/where you want to bury your treasure, it s great fun to find a piece of garden you were meaning to dig up - and let the kids do it for you. Spades will have to be provided for this. You will also need to mark the spot with an X, use stones or sticks, or if your using a piñata, mark the tree with an X with some white tape or chalk. Decide which clues you are going to use, and what order you want to find them, make the first clue the first Treasure Map clue, number 1 on the Clue Hiding Place Sheet, your next clue will be hidden in a tea-cup or tea pot as this is the solution to this clue. Decide on the next clue you want to use, then number that clue (2) and fill in no 3 on the Clue sheet with it s hiding place, this will help you on the day with the hiding of the clues. There are 5 types of clues (see games and hiding places sheet):- Treasure Map Clues 4 Clues (1 st one is the first clue you use for the game), use all of the other 3 clues anywhere in the game, but in the right order ie. clue 2 - clue 3 - clue 4 (It is marked on the map). When all 4 pieces of the map are put together they will be able to solve the hieroglyphics clue. Carefully tear the treasure map into 4 pieces. I ve put in a couple of treasure maps in the pack, because you could try staining it with a used tea bag, and then carefully burning the edges of the map to make it look old. Dry Game Clues & Wet Game Clues Choose which games you would like to play, and when the players get the clue for that particular game, steer them towards it, play the game, and don t forget to leave the next clue in that area, for them to find after the game and then follow to the next clue. You might like to leave the wet games until the end, and ask your guests to bring a spare set of cloths (just in case?). Egyptian Hieroglyphics
3 The Egyptian Hieroglyphics are on the final two clues on the treasure map. Put the Hieroglyphic Sheet on a wall, perhaps by a table with some paper and pencils by it so that you guests can work out the clues. Get them to join the four pieces of treasure map together so that they can read the hieroglyphics in order. Clues that lead to other clues Just use these wherever you like. A good idea would be to write one of the clues on a piece of paper in lemon juice, this will be an invisible clue. An adult will have to hold the clue over a heat source (a match, a hot light bulb) and the words will appear. I suggest you make the last three clues - A dry game clue followed by an outside clue (Gate or Barbeque) and then the last clue. When your guests are indoors playing the last dry game, get someone to nip out and mark the spot where the treasure is buried with the X. (Try and keep the treasure burying a secret from the birthday child - so that it is a surprise for them too). For a craft store (where you can buy a treasure chests) or piñata supplier please look on me web site These clues need to be mixed up, so that the players don t know what s coming up next, you decide in which order you put the clues, and when to break for a drink or something to eat. The best time to stop for something to eat is after a game clue, you can hold back the next clue to start again after the food. Mark the place you want to stop on your Hiding Place Sheet, and keep the clue you would have found at that game. Your guests will be split up into two teams (Red and Blue team) and arm bands to distinguish between the two teams would be a good idea, so you will need to get some strips of red and blue fabric to tie around there arms. Winners of the games will be awarded points, so you will need to set up some sort of score board. Invite your guests. Buy and prepare food, and decorate your home appropriately, as required. Prepare any costumes you have decided to use. (All supplies can be bought on the internet please look at my website for suppliers Don t forget to get you camera/camcorder set up as there is bound to be some good photo opportunities.
4 2. On the day. Make your final preparations to food and decorations. Set up the games you have decided to play. Bury or hide the treasure. Hide the clues according to your clue hiding place list. Put the hieroglyphic sheet up. 3. The game By now all the hard work has been done. When your guests arrive sit them down, tell them that whilst you were clearing out the attic you found an old chest that belonged to the birthday child s great-greatgrandfather, Captain Jack Sparrow who was a pirate. In this chest amongst some old clothes you found a piece of old treasure map. You have invited them here today to help find the lost pirate treasure that was hidden by the birthday child s great-greatgrandfather over a hundred years ago. Will you help me? Hopefully the answer is yes! Ask them to split into two teams The Black Pearl Team and The Flying Dutchman Team, choose a captain for each team and ask them to take turns in picking a team member until all the children are part of one team or another, give them red or blue armband according to which team they are in. If you like, how about giving the team captains one of the Pirates of the Caribbean character names, like Captain Jack Sparrow, Captain Will Turner, Captain Elizabeth Swann or even Captain Davy Jones. Show them the first piece of Treasure Map - and off you go - solving riddles - playing games etc. When they reach the last clue - before they charge off looking for the X that marks the spot, give the team that won the most points a five-minute head start at finding and digging up, or hitting if using a piñata. At the end of the party share the treasure between everyone. Give out themed party bags if you have decided to use them and say goodbye. If there is anything you don t understand please let me know I will be glad to help. I would be very interested to here how you get along with this party, what did you like best, is there anything that didn t work or you didn t like. I would particularly like to here from you if you would like to give me a testimonial to put on my web site, thanks.
