The Pirate s Treasure 7-9 years The quality of the pictures (resolution) is much higher in the original file.
The idea In this scavenger hunt, the children are looking for the pirate s treasure which has been stolen by the black pirate. To get to the treasure, tricky riddles and exciting team games have to be solved. The scavenger hunt can be played both inside and outside. You as an adult are leading the game and looking after the kids during the scavenger hunt. Copyright: 2018, Richard Bardl ( all rights reserved.
How it works Let s go! You read out the story to the kids and describe the hiding place in the first riddle. The children solve the first riddle together. Afterwards, you describe the next hiding place except Altogether, the scavenger hunt consists of 7 riddles and 3 team games. riddle 2, 4 and 6. After these riddles, the kids additionally have to solve a team game before they can learn about the next hiding place. After the kids have solved the last riddle, read out The treasure chest and describe the hiding place of the treasure. The treasure is found! The kids share the treasure among themselves and receive a certificate for their effort.
Preparation 1. Print the scavenger hunt in color. Additionally, print one Certificate for each kid. 2. Choose a hiding place for each riddle. Note all hiding places on the organization sheet. 3. Select if you want team games and note them on the organization sheet. 4. Cut out the treasure map (page 9). If you want to make the riddle a little bit more difficult you can cut the map in pieces, like a jigsaw. Then, hide the pieces at different locations of the same hiding place. 5. Fold the sheets of the riddles and write the number of the riddle with a pen on the back of the sheet. Hide all riddles in the hiding places. 6. Get or make the treasure chest and the treasure. Hide the treasure and note the hiding place. 7. Choose a starting point. 8. Let s go!
FAQ and tips How long does a scavenger hunt last? Normally, it lasts between 30 and 60 minutes. How many kids can play one scavenger hunt? Depending on the number of kids, we recommend playing the game in groups. Up to 7 kids can play in one scavenger hunt. For more than 7 kids, it s best to play in 2 groups with one adult each. Print all the riddles a second time and select different hiding places for the riddles and for a second treasure as well. What do I put in the treasure chest? In our experience, that kids love the treasure no matter what it is. Normally the treasure consists of sweets or little presents. If you d like it to be healthier, you can also put pre-cut fresh fruit in the treasure chest How do I make a treasure chest? Be creative! Within some minutes a shoe box is converted into an amazing treasure chest using some paper, paint or stickers. If you have less time, you can also hide the chest in a drawer or a linen chest, which you have emptied before. Where can the scavenger hunt be played? The game can be played both, inside and outside. Tip: Try to include the slower kids in the scavenger hunt, so all kids have fun and enjoy the game. When the treasure chest is found, please make sure, that the kids share it equally. Play the scavenger hunt directly after the kids arrive, so they can concentrate better on the riddles.
The hiding places You can either tell the kids the hiding places (e.g. you say the next riddle is hidden at the fence or now go 30 steps to the east ) or you describe the next lace as a riddle. If you have hidden the next riddle under a big green couch, you can say The next riddle you will find under a big green object. Alternatively, you can describe the place in words. Here are some suggestions: Hiding place Description Hiding Description place Under the keyboard On me, you will find every letter of the alphabet once. Tree I live in the forest and grow high towards the sun. Window I am transparent. Fridge Inside of me, there is always winter. More ideas of hiding places can be found in the original file.
Team games During the scavenger hunt, exciting team games will be played by the kids. They are big fun and support the cooperation among the children. The team games are always played after a riddle is solved and before the next hiding place is revealed. If you have limited time, you can easily leave out the team games. Our suggestions Please select 3 games. The sinking ship Take a carpet or a big tarp. This is the pirate s ship, around there is water. All kids must be on the tarp and are not allowed to fall down in the water for 5 seconds. If this is achieved, fold the tarp in the middle and make it smaller. Now, the kids have to be on the tarp for another 5 seconds. Keep on folding the tarp again and again and encourage the kids to support each other. The pirate ship The kids sit in a row behind each other on the floor and hold on to each other. Then, the kids have to move together like a team by sliding over the ground (without standing up). The kids have to reach a finish line, without losing contact with each other. You can play the game again and stop the time to make the game harder. Three more team games can be found in the original file.
Organization sheet Note all the chosen hiding places and their descriptions on this sheet. Carry this sheet with you at all times so you can keep track of what s going on in the game. Hiding place Description Solution of the riddle Example Message in a bottle in the bath When I am full of water, I am like a small Argh!!! tub ocean 1 Map Find the map (jigsaw) 2 The old sailor Not part of the preview The following team game will be played: 3 The storm Not part of the preview 4 The polar The very top star star The following team game will be played: 5 The sea Not part of the preview monster 6 The parrot Treasure is in the tower Folgendes Teamspiel wird zusätzlich gelöst: 7 Treasure Not part of the preview chamber Treasure The end
The story Ship ahoy! On your long journey across the seven seas you take a rest at an island named Coco. Actually, you just want to refill your water supplies and buy some fresh fruit. However, King Lino, the king of the Island, wants to talk to you. The king tells you, that a black pirate was at the island a couple of days ago and stole the gold treasure. He asks you to find the black pirate and bring back the stolen gold. As a reward, you will be allowed to keep a part of the treasure for yourselves. Of course you want to help king Lino. But before you start sailing, you have to find a map with the secret island of the black pirate. You can find the map.. (name of the first hiding place)
Riddle #1: This is the treasure map. Please cut out the map and hide it. If you want to make the riddle more difficult, you can cut the map in pieces (like a jigsaw) and hide it at different places of the same hiding spot (e.g. at different places in the book shelf).
The polar star It turns dark and suddenly your compass is turning around not making any sense. The only way to navigate here is with the help of the stars. One star, the polar star, is always in the north. It is in one exact row with two other stars and is the furthermost north one of all three. Which star is the polar star? Riddle #4
The parrot Finally you have reached the island of the black pirate. When the black pirate notices your presence, she flees from the island in her fast ship. Now, nobody is left on the island to show you the way to the treasure. You are looking for it all over the island, but you just can t find it. In a tree, you discover the parrot of the black pirate. It tells you something, but doesn t speak very clearly. To find out what its saying, you have to remove all P and B from the sentence. BPTRPBEBBASBURPE BIBBBS PIBN TBBHPBPBEB TPPPOPBWBPEPPRB! Riddle #6
The riddles 2,3,5 and 7 are not part of the free preview.
