2 Between the darkness and the daylight is TWILIGHT! Twilight at the Museums is a FREE after-hours event for families. Here are some tips to help you plan your adventure Pack a torch You ll need some extra light to help you explore (and don t forget to check the batteries!). Dress up warm It can get cold once the sun s gone down. Don t try to fit in too much Choose one or two places to start with. You don t want to spend the evening rushing around. Experience somewhere new It s an evening to discover different places be adventurous. Don t be afraid to ask Worried about queues? Need more information about access? 4 An evening of FREE family events and activities Most venues are within easy walking distance of each other. To make things easier, we have grouped them by location. 1 ALL SAINTS CHURCH Neon Navigation Use UV torches to find fabulous fluorescent creatures hidden around the church; make shapes and patterns with light boxes; or tell a story using shadow puppets. ways and take part in some creative activities that play with light and image projections. Don t forget your torch and watch out for the big spider! Please note: the Kettle s Yard House will not be open. 2 MUSEUM OF CAMBRIDGE Torches, Trinkets, Treasure! Explore some weird and wonderful objects from the Museum s collection in an interactive session with arts and crafts, object handling and more. Follow the trail and discover hidden secrets within the Museum what might you find? 3 KETTLE S YARD Light, Dark and Luminosity! Begin your night with a luminous trail and discover the Gallery s latest exhibitions. See the spaces in new 4 THE POLAR MUSEUM Historic Explorers Visit in the dark and travel back in time. The Museum will be bringing to life some of the amazing characters who have made polar history. Meet Martin Frobisher, an Elizabethan explorer with gold on his mind, not to mention the Antarctic explorer Ernest Shackleton who led his men to safety after his ship sank. Please note: at busy periods the Museum will be operating a one-in, one-out policy.
5 5 6 CAMBRIDGE UNIVERSITY BOTANIC GARDEN Red Alert Did you know that one in five of the world s plant species are in danger of becoming extinct? The good news is that botanic gardens (and you!) can help. Embark on an amazing journey around the glasshouses after dark; see some of the world s most endangered plants; and meet the people helping plants survive. Please note: entrance via Brookside Gate only. FITZWILLIAM MUSEUM WITH THE WHIPPLE MUSEUM OF THE HISTORY OF SCIENCE Starry Night Enjoy a star-lit adventure both inside and outside the Museum, with special light displays, music, craft and astronomy. Bring your torches and see the Museum come to life. Please note: accessible buggy/ wheelchair access via the Courtyard Entrance. Buggy parking will be available on the front lawn MUSEUM OF ARCHAEOLOGY AND ANTHROPOLOGY MAA s Magical Mystery Tour The lights are off, but the music is on! Beats of Polynesia will be playing live at the Museum as you hunt around the galleries for musical instruments, dancing clothes and all things needed to put on a show. SEDGWICK MUSEUM OF EARTH SCIENCES The Sedgwick Shadows Search among the shadows of the Museum for fabulous fossils and marvellous minerals. Use your torch to uncover secrets in the murky cabinets and discover something new. Please note: queues may be likely at busy periods. 9 MUSEUM OF ZOOLOGY T-wit T-who Comes Out at Night? Is it an owl? Is it a bat? Explore the Museum after dark and discover nocturnal creatures, with puppets and more. Please note: queues may be likely at busy periods.
6 10 MUSEUM OF CLASSICAL ARCHAEOLOGY Torchlight Explorers Torches at the ready. The Museum can be a spooky place after dark. Explore and complete the Twilight trail if you dare UNIVERSITY LIBRARY Manuscripts and Music by Candlelight Experience beautiful decorated manuscripts displayed just as they would have been in the past lit by candlelight. All accompanied by music of the period performed live by students from the Music Faculty. 8 ACCESS Our Twilight venues welcome all visitors. Information regarding access can be found on individual venues websites. If you have any further questions, please or phone TRAVEL Most venues do not have parking facilities and we recommend that you consider alternatives to driving. Cambridge Park & Ride runs until 8.30pm and three children travel free with each paying adult. Park and Ride: FOOD & DRINK Downing Site (outside the Sedgwick Museum and Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology): Azahar Food Van hot Spanish sandwiches and chips Caffè Mobile hot and cold drinks, cakes and snacks Churros Bar Spanish doughnuts and hot chocolate Hot Sausage Company hot pork sausages in a roll Botanic Garden café serving range of hot and cold food, drinks and children s meals (closes at 7.20pm). Fitzwilliam Museum café serving hot and cold snacks and drinks (closes at 7pm). Kettle s Yard café serving hot drinks and snacks TOILET FACILITIES All museums* have toilets; additional toilet facilities are located on the Downing Site. * Sedgwick Museum of Earth Sciences toilets and baby-changing will be provided by the temporary facilities on the Downing site. *All Saints Church toilets located at Westcott House.
