13 Wind load Wind load zone map 1 Due to the revision of DIN in March 2005, "Recommendations for the use of windows and external doors" (FE-05/1) have also been revised. Below you will find the updated wind load map as well as a table for simplified calculation of wind loads for Germany. External doors differentiation is made in wind load zones 1-4 with an installation height of up to 10 m, and in the terrain category "Inland" installation height of up to m, between a protected position (B) and an unprotected position (A). When installing windows at a height of more than 25 m in buildings that do not feature a square ground plan and in buildings erected at a height of over 800 m above sea level, a separate proof of wind load calculations must be provided according to DIN The above values are for reference only. In an exceptional case, hurricane force storms might result in draughts coming through windows and external doors. The above values only apply to the central area of the wall surface. In corner and edge areas, the wind load values must be increased by a factor 1.7. The corner and edge area is defined as 1/5 of the width of the building, applicable to all sides of the building. The central area comprises the entire remaining surface area. The value has been assumed for the worst case based on an edge area of 1 m² and a height/width ratio greater than or equal to 5.! Please note! The Energy Saving Regulation ("Energiesparverordnung" (EnEV) 10/2009 demands Class 3 air permeability for windows in buildings with more than two full storeys. 119 Sash Before cutting out! Please note! In the following the processing of a lift/slide door in a Plan A design will be described. Please note that when processing other plans, or for the WK2 design, additional work is required. These work tasks are explained in the Annex to this chapter. The sequence of the work steps described here only serves as an example. You may possibly have to adapt the sequence of steps to the actual conditions. For each plan, the chapter "Material" contains a list of the material required as well as the subtraction dimensions. When cutting out the sash profiles please note that the welding allowances have not yet been taken into consideration in the lists. Also, pay attention to mitred cuts or punching that need to be carried out with some profiles. This is appropriately marked in the cutting lists. Legend = material required = working steps = tool required Cut out sash 5 Sash profile ( ) Steel reinforcement ( ) Steel reinforcement ( ) Steel reinforcements Depending on the plan, the lift/slide door features one or several sliding sashes (SS). For sliding sashes only the closed steel reinforcement ( ) is used. With the exception of the center area, the C profile ( ) is used as a steel reinforcement for fixed sashes. Which steel reinforcements are used for plan A is shown in the figure below. The figures for the other diagrams are shown in the Annex to this chapter under "Steel reinforcements for all diagrams". Plan A Reinforcement closed Reinforcement (C profile) 5.4 Usage, processing

120 Sash Manufacture sash! Please note! Before welding the sash profiles, ensure that the steels have been correctly allocated. Always use welding fillers as otherwise the profiles may deform. A milling of the steel reinforcement within the area of the transmission (Gauge 27.5 mm) or the carriage is not necessary. Execute the mounting holes for the fixed sash on the loose rod or on the finished fixed sash. Carry out all milling and drilling work before welding! (Figures for drainage/ventilation are shown under "Milling and Drilling" in the Annex to this chapter). When bonding PVC with rubber, the assembly adhesive Aquaflex by WEICON is used. 136 Annex - Drainage and ventilating Milling and drilling! Please note! Please read with care the following instructions on milling and drilling! Mark profile pieces immediately after cutting and place for further processing on transport carriages or transport conveyors. Carry out all milling and drilling work before welding! All milling can be carried out on the individual profile piece. Remove any chips and milling residues on the profile by blowing. This ensures among other things a clean eduction of water, optimum functionality of fittings and prevents any discoloration (metal chips) and scratches. These machines can be used as tools: Fitting mortising machine and special machines (adapted to the system) Milling machines for rational processing Small machines by various tool manufacturers. The following work processes occur: Steam pressure equalization apertures and front chamber ventilation for sashes Steam pressure equalization apertures for mullions Lock mortise milling and lock mortise drilling. Driving rain resistance In order to provide for a safe water drainage from the construction, pressure equalization apertures are an advantage. These are located in the area protected against driving rain and reduce the pressure difference between the rebate space and the outside climate. In this way, the constructions achieve higher outflow volumes and thus a higher driving rain resistance classification. The size and arrangement of the outlet apertures also plays a decisve role. Investigations at the ift Rosenheim have shown that bores with a diameter of less than 8 mm or elongated holes smaller than 5 x 20 mm are insufficient due to the surface tension of the water. Drainage via front chambers and via water slots located in laterally offset positions, however, does have a positive effect on the outflow of water. 5 Pressure equalization In order to avoid any heat accumulation in the case of non-white profiles, all outside (weather side) front chambers must be ventilated. The ventilation of front chambers only concerns those chambers that have not yet been opened by other milling operations. Usage, processing 5.21

137 Annex - Drainage and ventilating Pressure equalization Pressure equalization apertures in the top horizontal sash provide for a trouble free drainage of the sash rebate even for higher pressure differences. The inlet milling is designed as an elongated hole (5 x 30 mm). The number and arrangement of the inlet millings are found on page Pressure equalization apertures Steam pressure equalization The steam pressure equalization apertures in the sash and mullion rebates are to be designed as an elongated hole (5 x 30 mm). The number and arrangement of the inlet and outlet millings are shown on page Steam pressure equalization apertures Drainage to the front or bottom 54.5! Please note! If a sash is drained in a downward direction (bottom drainage) it may be necessary to use a long drill in order to open the front chamber completely! 5.22 Usage, processing

138 Annex - Drainage and ventilating Arrangement of milling cuts! Please note! In the case of non-white profiles all outside front chambers must be ventilated! 156 Assembly and glazing guidelines i Info Some matters described in this documentation do not refer explicitly to the special system lift/slide door. To this extent such information is of a general nature which can be transferred to various different profile systems. Processing glazing beads Cutting glazing beads Cut all glazing beads on the glazing bead saw, (seals in a quality suitable for cutting). When fitting glazing beads without any seal First cut the glazing bead. Next, apply the glazing seal (Art. no ). Use a pair of sealing pliers to cut the glazing seal to an exact length. When cutting glazing beads to 45 Cut the glazing beads to 45. At the end of the glazing bead, repsectively undercut the glazing base to 45. Using a saw blade combination the glazing bead will be cut off during the forward run and the engagement lug during the return run. This ensures that the welding bead is no longer an obstruction when inserting the glazing bead.! Please note! In the case of glazings < 400 x 400 mm, glazing beads can be difficult to insert. The following processing steps are required In addition you need to undercut the retaining feet and partially remove the same Clip on glazing beads Insert the mitred glazing beads. Ensure that you always insert the shorter glazing beads first, and then the longer glazing beads. Carefully tap in the glazing beads with a plastic or rubber hammer. Undo glazing beads Use a spatula to undo glazing beads. First, undo the longer glazing beads and next the shorter glazing beads. Respectively undo the glazing beads in the central section. To this end, press the spatula into the central section of the glazing beads between rebate platform and lower edge of glazing bead. Jack up the spatula so that the glazing bead lifts slightly. Repeat this process at short intervals sufficiently often until you are able to withdraw the glazing bead by hand. Glazing/assembly 6.3

157 Assembly and glazing guidelines Fitting blocks Purpose of block fitting Weight distribution of the pane toward the sash frame Permanent adjustment of the sash frame Ensure operability of the sash Prevent the possibility of direct contact of the pane with the sash frame Ventilation possibility Blocking material Bearing, spacer and glazing blocks as well as glazing rebate inserts and wedges must be made up such that they are resistant to weather and ageing influences. Their form must not change when under load. Glazing blocks and wedges made of synthetic material - such as hard PVC - have proven themselves in this regard. Glazing blocks 100 mm Thickness / 100 x 26 mm 100 x 30 mm 100 x 34 mm color 1 mm / white mm / blue mm / red mm / yellow mm / green mm / black Attachment of the glazing blocks The glazing rebate insert bridges the height difference of 3 mm between the rebate platform and the upper edge of the glazing bead holder. During and after assembly, edge settings at the end of the glazing rebate insert prevent any sliding of the glazing blocks positioned on the same. Glazing blocks should have a length of 100 mm and always be 2 mm wider than the glazing. The groove stoppers of the glazing rebate insert , fitted on the outside, prevent any uncontrolled pushing in of the glazing blocks. All glazing rebate inserts as well as glazing blocks should be secured permanently against sliding out of position, e.g. by means of silicone. Blocks that have sled out of position loose their functionality and have a detrimental effect on other functions. In such a case, e.g., the sash can no longer be opened and closed optimally or the block is located before the drainage slot. After the glass pane has been fitted with glazing blocks, the glazing beads must be fitted (see the guidelines for fitting glazing blocks). Distance of blocking from the corner approx. 100 mm Glazing rebate insert Glazing/assembly

158 Assembly and glazing guidelines Sequence of block fitting 1. Start at the bottom in a horizontal direction with the insertion of the blocks onto the glazing rebate insert. The block height should be 6 mm (3 mm glazing rebate insert + 3 mm block). 2. Set down the glass pane on the bottom blocks and carefully tilt the sash frame. 3. Ensure in particular that there is the necessary glazing rebate play in the area of the post connectors so as not to damage the glazing edges.! Please note! If you have inserted connectors in the upper section, there is an increased risk of glass fracture when swivelling in the glass pane. Therefore suitable spacer blocks should be used and proceed with special care! 6 Glazing/assembly 6.5
