2 MIXED MEDIA Composing Session B SHARRON OTT MONDAY AFTERNOONS (1:00-3:30 PM) This teaching program forms a strong foundation for the beginning, or on-going student, as they continually build knowledge and skills. Fun games are incorporated into the classes. These provide an exciting way to activate the brain, strengthen eye-hand communication, and loosen up the arm. Students may choose their own direction, allowing them to create their unique view of the works. Experimentation with mediums is encouraged. November 2, 9, 16, 30, Dec. 7, 14 Color Theory Session B SHARRON OTT MONDAY EVENINGS (7:00-9:30PM) This class will delve into the fundamentals of Color Theory, looking at different schools of thought on this magical subject such as 20 th century Bauhaus, and modern Physics. Class work will include color studies that help an artist understand the unique properties of primary and secondary colors, enabling them to enrich their personal work. Experiment with old photographs, found objects and everyday items. See how texture and composition affect your work, and learn gluing and image transfer techniques. 3 COLORED PENCIL Colored Pencil with Pen and Ink Session A TRACI LIMES WEDNESDAY (9:30-NOON) Introducing new projects and techniques. In this class, students will work with pen and ink to create drawings using various techniques, such as stippling and hatching. Students will be adding color to these pen and ink drawings with colored pencil, water-soluble colored pencils or traditional watercolor paints. This is a great technique to add a special touch to your artwork, sketchbook and journals. b.i.a. FL LIME 1 A. September 16, 23, 30, October 7, 14, 21 Water Soluble Colored Pencil Session B only TRACI LIMES WEDNESDAY (9:30- NOON) Introducing new projects and techniques. Come explore the unlimited possibilities of water-soluble colored pencils. These highly portable pencils are great for travel and studio work. An artist can create a simple or very detailed painting with these pencils. Each week we will work on various techniques and how-to s with a variety of subject matter. We will also explore the methods of combining graphite and regular colored pencil with the water-soluble ones. b.i.a. FL LIME 2 B. Learn new skills or reacquaint yourself with techniques that are the underpinnings for all works of art. Basic drawing media (pencil, charcoal and ink) will be employed with the emphasis placed on the process of seeing the world with an artist's eye. b.i.a. FL ROTT 1 A. Learn the proportions of the head and facial features while focusing on the variations that create a unique individual portrait. Beginners develop black and white studies- while advanced students can move into color. Classes will work from photo references, a live model, and then from their own photographs. Soft pastels provide an immediacy and purity of color that encourages such exploration. 5 Creativity with Oil Pastels Session B GEORGE BRUCE THURSDAY MORNINGS ( 9:30 12 NOON) Discover new techniques and the great versatility of oil pastels. Push your creative skills to new levels. Be willing to investigate objective as well as non-objective art, with emphasis on good composition, color, values and originality. Each artist will receive the assistance needed to create a successful painting. End of class critiques included with artist s participation. Demos on request. b. i. FL BRUC I B. November 5, 12, 19, December 3, 10, 17 Pastel Painting in Three Steps CAROL ZACK FRIDAY AFTERNOONS (12:30-3:00PM ) There seems to be a renaissance in the use of pastel! Some relatively new advances in the pastel medium, as well as improved painting surfaces and better ways to frame and protect your finished pastel paintings are the focus of this pastel class. Working with professional artist grade soft pastels, and/or high grade oil pastels make painting in pastel more desirable than ever for the pastel artist and the collector. Be sure to follow the supply list for this class. Not all pastels will work for the techniques presented in the class. This is a great class for all skill levels. The immediacy of pastel s application and its forgiving nature makes working with pastel a great medium for creating luminous, spontaneous and atmospheric paintings. November 6, 13, 20, December 4, 11, 18 WATERCOLOR Beginning Watercolor KAY WAHLGREN MONDAY MORNINGS (9:30 NOON) Watercolor does not have to be muddy or mysterious. The basics will be covered, from setting up the paint box to painting techniques. This class is both for beginners and the continuing student who wants to review and strengthen basic skills. September 16, 23, 30, October 7, 14, 21 B. November 4, 11, 18, December 2, 9, 16 Wet Into- Wet Watercolors Session A GORDON FRANCE FRIDAY MORNINGS (9:30-NOON) Get rid of the mud and fussy detail. Learn wet-into-wet watercolor technique to take advantage of the medium s unique properties. The class will focus on producing loose, fresh, spontaneous paintings by letting the magic of watercolors work for you. Contrast, color, composition and edge variety will be emphasized. There will be a demo by the instructor, then, during student painting, plenty of personal attention will be available. A positive critique will complete the class. Photo references will be supplied but students may bring their own. Landscapes, cityscapes, preferably images with some geometry, buildings, boats, etc. are preferred. i.a. FL FRAN 1 A. 7 Zentangle- Sue Jacobs, Certified Zentangle Instructor $70 Zentangle is an easy to learn method of creating beautiful images from structured patterns. It is a fascinating new art form that is fun and relaxing. It increases focus and creativity. Anyone can do it! Zentangle provides artistic satisfaction and an increased sense of personal well being. It can be considered a form of meditation. There will be a basics class the first week that will explore a variety of techniques and tangle patterns. The second week will include black and tan tiles. Basic supplies are included in the workshop fee. Additional supplies will be available. WFL JACO 1 Monday, September 14, 9:30 - NOON Monday, September 21, 9:30-NOON Zentangle- Sue Jacobs, Certified Zentangle Instructor $70 The first week will be a basics class, with different tangle patterns from the first session. The second week will include completing a tangle art necklace. See description above. WFL JACO 2 Monday, October 19, 9:30-Noon Monday, October 26, 9:30-Noon Note: Sue will be our Monday night presenter Sept. 21 at the League. Embellishment Felting-Janan Hudek-instructor $40 Like oils, acrylics and watercolor, fiber can be mixed and made into shapes large & small, lines thick & thin and textures from smooth to rough. Instead of brushes, you ll be using a special felting needle to create a one-of-a-kind garment or accessory for yourself or as a gift. You ll learn the techniques as you take your own garment or accessory from plain or stained, worn or torn, to personal & stunning. Bring an unlined, light to medium weight garment or accessory with at least 60% natural fiber (cotton, linen, rayon, silk or wool.) T-shirts and lighter weight jeans are good choices. You can call me if you are uncertain about your choice. You will also need to bring a piece of firm foam, at least 2 inches thick and large enough to comfortably lay out a section of your item to be painted on. Thrift store pillows or cushions are a good inexpensive choice. If there is a particular image you d like to replicate, bring references. All other supplies provided. WFL HUDE 1 Sunday, November 15, 12:30-4:00 pm Paper Ornament Workshop -Kay Wahlgren, Instructor $40 Begin creating or adding to your collection of unique hand-cut paper ornaments. This year's workshop will focus on items that are sure to be treasured by participants and those fortunate to receive them as gifts. Please bring a pair of small pointed scissors. 12 REGISTRATION & PAYMENT Full payment is due at the time of registration prior to the first class. No class registrations may be accepted without payment. In person registrations: credit card, cash, or check. Mail registrations: check only. Phone registrations: credit card only. IN PERSON OR BY PHONE: Visit or call the Art League Monday through Friday 9:00 am 5:00 pm, Saturday 9:00a.m. to 2:00 pm MISSED CLASSES: Classes are never prorated. Refunds are never issued for missed classes. Classes are sold as a full Session. Missed classes may be made up in other classes and times taught by the same teacher at the discretion of the instructor. Students whose schedules will cause them to miss a significant number of classes in a session, may buy single classes at $20 each on the day of the class if the class is not full and the instructor approves. REFUND POLICY & CANCELLATIONS: Refunds will be made only if cancellation is made 5 days prior to the first class. There will be a $5 charge for processing a refund. Classes with insufficient enrollment will be canceled. All refunds will be handled through the mail. The DPAL reserves the right to change dates, cancel, postpone, split, or combine classes. TRANSFERRING CLASSES: Class registrations can not be transferred from one class to another. Students may cancel a class, ask for a refund (if 5 days before or more before the class begins), and then select and pay for another class to replace it. There will be a $5 processing fee for refund requests. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: Class fees can be waived upon presentation of evidence of financial need. The DPAL offers a $5 discount on class fees to Senior Citizens (62 years and over). Call for further information. For regular desk staffers and board members, a 50% discount for one class per quarter. This discount does not apply to workshops. SCHOLARSHIPS: Application forms are available at the DPAL front desk.
