You'll start with the basic principles: gesture, shape, placement and proportion. Explore an array of famous figure drawings and work from simple warm-up exercises to exciting workups. K WS FINE 1 A: Jan. 8, 15, 22, 29 Feb. 5, 12 DRAWING ANIMALS: Basic Shapes and Action Poses (ages 7-15) Session B ANNE FINES, MONDAY AFTERNOONS ( 4:15 5:45 PM ) From horses to kittens and lions to elephants, students will discover how to bring animals to life using basic shapes and action lines. Animals by famous artists including Rembrandt, Lautrec, and Picasso will be reviewed. Charcoal, pencil, Conte sticks, and colored pencil will be used. Some supplies provided. K WS FINE 2 B: Feb. 26 Mar. 5, 12, 19 Apr. 2, 9, FACE IT: HOW TO DRAW HEADS (ages7-15) Session C ANNE FINES, MONDAY AFTERNOONS ( 4:15-5:45 PM ) Have you ever wanted to draw a face of a friend or relative, but didnʼt know where to start? Hereʼs the course that takes you step by step through the best way to sketch those faces so that they are fun and expressive. Youʼll get to use charcoal and a variety of pencils. K WS FINE 3 C: Apr. 16, 23, 30 May 7, 14, 21 Colorful Clay Modeling and Animation (ages 7-16) Come and create colorful small clay sculptures of your choosing, dragons to dragonflies, bunnies to bananas, T.V. s to toasters, in other words anything! Let your imagination soar and be inspired by others around you in this class. In the last ½ of the session, a clay animation video including background set, will be produced together as a class. Bring your imagination and a shoe box (if you have one). b.i.a. Impossible, you say?! Not at all, we will add tints and shades to create a dynamic work of art. We will visually zoom in to an object, crop it and compose a drawing, allowing our focus to be on the values we see in the composition. This is a fun way to do a practice value study in your favorite color. b.i.a. 2 CLASSES FOR YOUNG STUDENTS Sculpture: Create a work of Pop Art with paper mache, cardboard & paint. (ages 7 16) Do you enjoy working with your hands? Not afraid of goopy paper mache and paint? This is the class for you! Come and learn about Pop art and the public art works of Claes Oldenburg. Get inspired by his larger than life size works of everyday objects (clothespin, ice cream cone, bike tire etc..) and create your own sculpture out of cardboard, paper mache and paint. Prepare to get messy. Get inspired by Japanese artists, Hiroshige and Hokusai, and their beautiful wood block prints. Learn how to take your own drawing ideas and transfer to a linoleum surface (our modern version of wood block).use carving tools and printing ink, apply to paper and make a series of prints from one drawing. Expand your creativity with bright colors and thick paint, while working on a variety of surfaces. Session A MARY DORRELL, WEDNESDAY MORNING (10:30 am Noon) Students will review and expand their understanding of the color wheel and embark on informed color mixing. You will explore drawing with brushes and massing in color, creating vibrant color and spontaneity to you art. Materials provided. b. i. K WS DORR 1 A: Jan. 10, 17, 24, 31 Feb. 7, 14 EXPANDING COLOR with pencils & pastels (ages 7 12) NEW HOME SCHOOL SPECIAL! Session B MARY DORRELL, WEDNESDAY MORNING (10:30 am Noon) Using colored pencils or soft pastels learn to layer color with graphite to create textural effects. We will also use colored papers to explore their impact on color. Materials provided. b.i. Youʼll get to use your markers and color pencils to create very fluid and colorful compositions of virtually any subject...working with your imagination and fond memories as inspiration. Supplies provided. b.i. K WS FINE 6 B: Feb. 28 Mar. 7, 14, 21 Apr. 4, 11 DRAWING IN COLOR: Create Your Own Masterpiece! (ages 8-15) Session C ANNE FINES, WEDNESDAY AFTERNOONS ( 4:15-5:45 PM ) This is the course that makes people pop. From Manet to Picasso, draw figures and objects, add backgrounds, and create interesting compositions. You ll work with vibrant pastels and color pencils to make your drawings come to life. Session A ANNE FINES, THURSDAY AFTERNOONS ( 4:15-5:45 PM ) Youʼll explore two very fluid mediums ink and watercolor that flow together, creating a mix of line and color tone. You'll add vivid washes to your drawings to make them more vibrant and colorful. if you like to draw and paint, this is a double delight! Supplies provided. b.i. K WS FINE 8 A: Jan. 11, 18, 25 Feb. 1, 8, 15 WILD COLOR: Drawing fun with oil pastels (ages 8-15) Session B ANNE FINES THURSDAY AFTERNOONS ( 4:15-5:45 PM ) Learn how to layer your color to make your drawing more vibrant. Youʼll get to use oil pastels to create thick and thin textural effects that can be blended. This Drawing tool goes well beyond wax crayons. Supplies provided. b.i. 6 REGISTRATION & PAYMENT Full payment is due at the time of registration prior to the first class. No class registrations may be accepted without payment. In person registrations: credit card, cash, or check. Mail registrations: check only. Phone registrations: credit card only. IN PERSON OR BY PHONE: Visit or call the Art League Monday through Friday 9:00 am 5:00 pm, Saturday 9:00a.m. to 2:00 pm MISSED CLASSES: Classes are sold as a full Session. Refunds are never issued for missed classes. Missed classes may be made up in other classes and times taught by the same teacher at the discretion of the instructor. Students whose schedules will cause them to miss a significant number of classes in a session, may buy single classes at $20 each on the day of the class if the class is not full and the instructor approves. REFUND POLICY & CANCELLATIONS: Refunds will be made only if cancellation is made 5 business days prior to the first class. There will be a $5 charge for processing a refund. Classes with insufficient enrollment will be canceled. All refunds will be handled through the mail. The DPAL reserves the right to change dates, cancel, postpone, split, or combine classes. TRANSFERRING CLASSES: Class registrations cannot be transferred from one class to another. Students may cancel a class, ask for a refund (if 5 days before or more before the class begins), and then select and pay for another class to replace it. There will be a $5 processing fee for refund requests. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: Class fees can be waived upon presentation of evidence of financial need. The DPAL offers a $5 discount on class fees to Senior Citizens (62 years and over). Call for further information. For regular desk staffers and board members, a 50% discount for one class per quarter. This discount does not apply to workshops. SCHOLARSHIPS: Application forms are available at the DPAL front desk.
