2 July 9 13, 10am noon Fee per 1-3 Abstract Art Fab Duell 4-7 Mosaic Madness! Sandy Caruso 4 7 Southwest Acrylic & Collage! Phyl Wickstrom This camp uses the seven elements of art to explore abstraction as a pathway to self-expression. You will be encouraged to experiment with composition to find your personal mark (line, color, shape and texture). We will explore block stamping, texture art, painting like Kandinsky, geometric abstracts, monotypes, line painting, Suminagashi, and symmetry prints. Students will learn ceramic cutting techniques with nippers, as well as techniques for gluing and grouting. There will be a large number of ceramic pieces to choose from, including found objects. Students can expect messy fun creating their mosaic frame! This is a class where it's ok to break stuff! In this class you ll start with a collage of found objects to add texture to your canvas. After gessoing over this, you ll learn to mix & work with acrylics on canvas. You ll be painting color fields with brushes, and can optionally print text (a favorite poem or quote) over the finished artwork for a unique personal statement. Wear clothes you can get paint on! $60

3 July 9 13, 1 3pm Description Image Fee per 7-12 Fundamentals of Drawing Mary Lou Holt 1-3 Nature Prints for Kids Elizabeth Ross 4-7 Mandalas Fab Duell Learn how to see the world as an artist sees it. We will start with line drawing techniques, learn basic eye/hand coordination, learn how to identify positive and negative shapes, and draw objects accurately, using simple shapes and still-life objects. You will purchase materials from a list provided by Mary Lou so that you can continue to draw at home (will not exceed $25). Explore nature as an endless source of joyful creative inspiration! You will use a variety of printmaking processes to create prints of animals and plants, land, sea and sky, as well as using actual nature as stamps! You ll screen print your own Warrior Girl or Nature Warrior t-shirts, block printing I Love Nature tote bags for collecting little treasures, print on paper, and even create a special (surprise!) gift for mom and/or dad. The mandala is one of humankind's most ancient art forms. With the circle as its basis, it reflects eternity and all of nature: the sun, the moon and even the bird's nest. "Mandala" is Sanskrit for circle. In this class you will design and create your own personal mandalas using chalk, paint, even old LP's (vinyl records). $40 plus you will need to buy a basic drawing kit before class $60

4 July 9 13, 4 5:30pm 7-12 Improv for Teens Kevin Crowley Improvisation is the art of spontaneous story telling. Based on children's games, the exercises that made Second City alumni Steve Carrel, Tina Fey and Steven Colbert famous are the same ones we will use to discover the joy of active listening, agreement and building something from nothing. Kevin was an actor, director and teacher with the famed Second City in Chicago, for many years. Join kindergarten teacher (art teacher wannabe) Missy Fields for a of fun, combining art with science, technology, engineering, and math. $40

5 July 16 20, 1pm 3pm Fee per 1-3 Make Art Like Great Artists Beth Renick Learn about artists such as Monet, Kandinsky, Seurat, Chihuly, and Pollock as we create our own renditions of their art using their style. $ Collage Journals Carolyn Tindal These collage journals are based on cardboard books. You will choose a theme and build pages from clippings, meaningful phrases, photos, ink stamps and even stitchery! July 16 20, 4 5:30pm 7-12 Creative Writing Kevin Crowley Writing can be such a cathartic creative outlet for young people. In this class we will explore journaling, creative and nonfiction writing using techniques from writers famous and non, as well as improvisational techniques. 6 July 23 27, 10am - noon 1-3 A House Fit for a Mouse Maria Bailey Enter the world of miniatures from a mouse s perspective. Delve into the imaginative world of miniatures through a barrage of mouse stories, inspiring your designs for your very own miniature house! You are invited to collect, and bring with you, miniature, everyday items you might like to integrate into your house design. Fee per $ Printmaking: My True Self Elizabeth Ross Who we are when we strip away labels and imposed concepts of identity vs. who we are at our most joyful, or our True Selves, is the theme for this -long printmaking class. You will get to design and screen print their own t-shirts, will block print a tote bag with their own motto developed in class, carve a personal logo stamp, and print a variety of inspirational quotes to decorate the walls of your room. $60

7 July 23 27, 1 3pm Fee per 4-7 Pastels with Panache! $40 Taught by Lynn Hogan Learn basic sketching techniques and color blending with chalk pastels. You will create an individual pastel painting of your choice. You will bring in a photograph of a favorite animal or landscape etc. that you would like to work from. Your class fee covers materials, and you may take home your set of pastels and drawing pad to keep using this summer! July 23 27, 4 6pm Fee per 1-3 Music Makers Taught by Liz Wu Drums and shakers and bells, oh my! We will be drumming up a ton of fun in this exciting, up-beat, hands-on class. Learn to make and play your own musical instrument! Jump, run and move to the rhythms you create. Play games that train your ear and build cooperation. Together, we will be exploring and developing timing, coordination, listening, creativity, and teamwork - but above all, we will be having FUN! Led by professional musician, fitness instructor and Ritmo facilitator Liz Wu. At the end of the camp, student will be able to take home all of their musical creations.
