1 BROADMOOR Nature Camp Broadmoor Wildlife Sanctuary Natick, MA DISCOVER. EXPLORE. BE OUTSIDE! SUMMER 2019

2 ABOUT CAMP At Broadmoor Nature Camp in Natick, kids 4 14 do what comes naturally: explore, have fun, and make friends! Campers experience nature and create lifelong memories through guided outdoor explorations, games, handson activities, and crafts. They also come to understand their place in nature, as well as the importance of preserving it. Small group sizes ensure that campers stay safe and engaged with role models who are creative, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic. Our Camp Educators Our staff is passionate about sharing the joy and excitement of the outdoors with children. Sessions are staffed by Lead Educators who are mostly college graduates with proven camp leadership experience, and by Assistant Educators who are at least 17 years old and have experience supervising children. All undergo a rigorous interview process that includes reference and background checks and receive training in safety, child development, and nature study. Our Camp Director Melissa Hansen has been Broadmoor s Camp Director and Education Coordinator for fifteen years. When she is not facilitating camp, she s developing and leading school programs and teacher professional development workshops. Melissa has worked at nature-based school and camp programs in Maine, Rhode Island, and California. She has a Master of Science degree in environmental education and a Bachelor of Science degree in wildlife biology. Special This Year! Wild about Birds an all-camp theme for July 1 3* All camp groups will spend three days learning about the exciting world of birds! See descriptions for details on what they ll do in each program group. *No camp July 4 or 5.

Collect and identify underwater organisms, test and compare water chemistry, and paddle alongside great blue herons and painted turtles. Play games about adaptations, food webs, biodiversity, and interrelationships in nature. Certified, experienced staff will provide guidance on technical paddling and water safety practices. End your journey with a camp out in a semi-wilderness riverside setting! Trail Blazers July Explore how trails are planned and built to allow people access without impacting nature too much. With the guidance of skilled professionals, use a variety of hand-held tools to help improve existing trails, blaze new trails, and prepare wooden structures for crossing wet areas at Broadmoor. Visit nearby reservations and parks where trails are used to hike, bike, run, ride horses, and walk dogs.
