Our goal is to help people become better woodworkers and promote a better understanding and appreciation for woodworking of all types. It had lots of good information and lots of good inspiration. In fact, it inspired Sam Vosovic to challenge me to use Stumpy's techniques to build a machine to duplicate his spiral canes. I think I'm up to it. Hope to have it ready for the July meeting. Thanks Stumpy! In memory of Ed Ludwig MMWG made a donation to the Midwest Tool Collector's Association for their Scholarship Fund. Half of the $200 came from our general fund and half from our Bill Carter Fund. This month's meeting will be an MMWG evening out to Michigan Veneer(3300 W. M-21 St. Johns, MI) followed by Ryan's Roadhouse(902 E. State St, St. Johns, MI). We'll meet at Michigan Veneer at 6:40 pm for a short bit of business before our 7:00 tour with Ben Kramer. From the road we see two Michigan Veneer buildings, a brick office building and a large industrial pole building. To park take the access drive on the east side of the pole building. Drive around the pole building through the log yard and park right behind the brick building. We will meet inside the brick building in the kitchen area on the lower level. We'll see lots of wood and lots of woodworking. After Michigan Veneer we'll meet up at Ryan's Roadhouse for food, drinks and talking woodworking. Matt Rosendaul has crafted a club sticker with our logo and website. They should be available for purchase($2.00) at this month's gatherings in St. Johns. Tom Dowling will have a portable saw mill in action at his place(1281 E. Cutler Road, DeWitt, MI) this Saturday, June 17, 2017 starting at 9:00 am. Bring gloves if you'd like to pitch in. Snap a few photos for us to post, too, if you get a chance.

2 WOODCHATTER Page 2 All Hands On Deck! Fellow members, we are now signing up volunteers for two big MMWG events. The first is the 72 nd Annual DeWitt Ox Roast, August 17-19( The Ox Roast pays for our meeting place, the Memorial Building, and our volunteering is in lieu of our paying rent. Our primary shift will be the Friday evening dinner shift. We will serve meals, set up, clean up, fetch ice, or whatever the organizers need us to do. Serving the dinner is most important(from 5:30-9:00pm) but help is also needed for the major set up on Friday morning(starting at 9:00 am) Sign up on the provided form; or, by to Terry(tdkirk1@msn.com); or, by phoning Terry at The second big event is the Johnson's Wood Expo 2017 at Johnson's Lumber in Charlotte, MI( This a huge showcase event for our club. It's currently our only chance each year to interact with the public by displaying our work and sharing who we are; what we do; and why they might want to join. The expo runs Friday, September 8, :00am to 5:00pm and Saturday, September 9, :00am to 4:00pm and we need several people during all hours. Members will talk with the public about projects and displays; do demos; help with hands-on projects; sign up new members; take donations; set up; take down; and, serve as living examples of just how cool woodworkers really are. Also, for our Expo planning it would be useful if members could commit specific projects to be exhibited. By knowing what projects we will be displaying, we can tailor the displays to the projects themselves. They will transport Expo visitors and their purchases to and from the farther parking areas. They will give a gift certificate to drivers. For child-safe concerns no loose part should fit into a paper towel roll. Three winners will be decided by a vote of the visitors to the Expo and the prizes will be $50, $25, and $15.
