Directions: Buffey Elementary School is located off Genesee Road between Richfield and Carpenter roads. Turn west off of Genesee on Crosby Road. Buffey Elementary is on the north side of the road. This meeting April 9th: Hands-on making a long Push Stick for your Jointer. NOTE: Plywood will be provided or if you want hardwood you must bring your own wood for your PUSH STICK. Please cut it to 6 X 28 with one face jointed. May 14th: June 1st: Upcoming meetings Sharpening and burnishing a scraper Annual Picnic the first Saturday in June.1 Summer Vacation September 9th: Sanding Blocks, Gene Munsell October 8th: Sketch-Up Demo by Russ Generes. Sketch-Up is a free CAD type Drawing Program designed by Google, now owned by Trimble. Many woodworkers are using the free version to design their projects. Also you many magazines are starting to offer woodworking plans in Sketch-UP. After you see the demo, and are interested in learning Sketch-Up, Russ has secured a classroom with computers. St Jude s Children s Hospital: I was contacted by St Jude s. They are very happy that we are going to help. They said OK to a craft sale, but they cannot accept any items to sell in their gift shop. At this upcoming meeting we need to get an estimate of how many projects we will have and a date for the craft sale. What are you going to make? They will call me back on April 10 for that information and send us a kit to help plan and adverse the sale and use the name of the hospital for adverting and how to advertise. We need some super nice items from you, because this is for children, who are fighting for their lives. Please don t turn your back on them DB

He is home on Spring break. He has been very busy at GLBBS. He even goes back in the evening and can work on his own projects. I will be showing some of them in future newsletters. 3 Page 3 Missing Book I think it was the Sept meetings, I presented a hardbound Book (243 pages) to the club, which was a gift from John Wilson. It is about making your own tools, the same tools that John Wilson teaches classes on. A lot of you took a look at the book and one of our members took it home. They were suppose to bring it back the next meeting and give it to Larry Kleeman. Well, that never happened and a lot of members wanted to check it out at the last meeting. 5 Page 5 We All Have to Work With What We Have By Ken Taylor In the beginning of my wood working in 1996 one of my first projects was a create shelving system that was in shop notes. It used ½ lap joints and simple 1x2. I obtained a old 2-1/2x12x12ft wood plank that had been used around the farm for many things and filled with dirt and sand from my brother. I had my prized piece of oak and on my way to wood working greatness. Some dull saw and planer blades later I had my creation. (picture on bottom of page 4)And some newly acquired skills and knowledge. We all have to work with what we have. Whether it be knowledge or tools. In wood working it s both. And the longer and more we do of it the better we get. Now when I have a desire to build something I usually start with a sketch of it. This helps me envision the different skills and techniques that I poses or think I posses to bring this sketch to life. But luckily and humbly I still know that I really don t know that much. So I ask a lot of questions, read magazines and books,look on the internet anything to gather more knowledge and capabilities. So wither you have or use pocket screws, biscuits, mortise tenon,1/2 lap or a simple miter joint. Just build on your experience to create a piece you can be proud of that you created on your own. and you will have built more skills and experience in the process.
