1 2016 APA ANNUAL MEETING SAFETY & HEALTH WORKSHOP MONDAY, NOVEMBER 7, :30 A.M. - 4:30 P.M. HYATT REGENCY COCONUT POINT - BONITA SPRINGS, FLORIDA Free Event for Safety and Health Professionals Mill safety and occupational health is everyone s priority. But how is it actually achieved? This free APA Safety and Health Workshop will seek answers to that important question. Organized by the APA Safety and Health Advisory Committee (SHAC), the all-day workshop will include guest speakers and an information-sharing forum designed to generate discussion of best practices and ideas for improving mill safety programs and performance records. The workshop will be held the day of the safety awards presentation at the APA Annual Meeting Chairman s Dinner, thereby providing a double attraction and condensed schedule for mill personnel to limit time away from their facilities. Lunch will be provided.

2 Safety & Health Workshop Who should attend The workshop is open to and recommended for APA member company employees with responsibility for managing, implementing, or administering mill safety plans and programs; EWTA member companies providing safety-related products and/ or services; and anyone else from APA and EWTA member companies interested in learning more about mill safety. How to Register Contact Kim Sivertsen at APA, , If you already registered for the workshop as part of your APA Annual Meeting registration, no further action is necessary. There is no charge for attending this workshop. However, attendees should make their own lodging arrangements, if required. If you wish to attend both the workshop on November 7 and the 2015 Safety Awards ceremony at the Chairman s Dinner that evening, the fee is $150. 4 agenda MONDAY, NOVEMBER 7 1:30 pm Active Shooter Response Training Sergeant Jason Fields and Sergeant Shawn Yates Fort Myers Police Department Jason and Shawn will present recommended responses if faced with an active shooter at work or in any public setting. Risk Assessment Tool Greg Ellisor, Corporate Health and Safety Manager Weyerhaeuser Chairman, APA Safety and Health Advisory Committee Greg will share a new risk assessment tool for safely addressing upset conditions. Social Engineering for Safety Culture Change Terry Evans, Division Safety Manager Boise Cascade Company Vice-Chairman, APA Safety and Health Advisory Committee Sustainable safety cultures are built not by fixing the holes in the floor or guards on machines but by fixing the process people use to make choices in their work environment. Social Engineering is the process of influencing a group to make decisions in a certain pre-directed manner. We are exposed to social engineering through advertisement campaigns, political campaigning and government propaganda. 5 speakers & Session leaders John Drebinger, Jr., acclaimed international safety speaker and author has been delivering his dynamic safety presentations worldwide for the past 26 years. John has a Bachelor s Degree in Speech and is a member of the National Speakers Association, having achieved their highest earned designation of Certified Speaking Professional. His previous clients include NASA, ASSE, PG&E, Bechtel, The US Forest Service and many other Fortune 500 companies. Scott Janson has been a maintenance superintendent with LP OSB for the past 6 years and has 20 years of experience in OSB manufacturing. Cruz Gonzalez is a millwright and has been with LP for 29 years and has 24 years of experience in OSB manufacturing. Jason Fields has been with the Fort Myers Police Department for 16 years and is an instructor in defensive tactics, firearms, active shooter, patrol rifle, Ballistic shield, SAVE and Taser. Shawn Yates has been with Fort Myers Police Department for 20 years and is an instructor in firearms, active shooter, patrol rifle, DUI, SAVE and department armor. Greg Ellisor is a 19-year veteran of Weyerhaeuser and serves as a Corporate Health and Safety Manager, primarily supporting the company s Wood Products manufacturing operations in the Mid-South region and leading the regional safety liaison team. He is a Certified Industrial Hygienist and Certified Safety Professional with 25 years of industrial, EHS experience. Prior to beginning his EHS career, Mr. Ellisor served as a U.S. Air Force officer and AWACS crewmember. Mr. Ellisor has a BS degree in Biology from the College of Charleston, South Carolina and an MS degree in Industrial Hygiene from the University of Oklahoma. Terry Evans has been the Division Safety Manager at Boise Cascade Company for the past 3½ years. He has a BS Degree in Natural Science from the University of Alaska. He is a Certified Safety Professional and an Occupational Health and Safety Technologist. Prior to Boise, Terry was a Safety Manager/Deputy Director with Fluor for 5 years and held previous loss control and risk manager positions in other industries. 5 SAFETY & HEALTH WORKSHOP
