10 Temperature Reading is a Few Degrees Warmer r Clder than Expected Check Sensr Psitin If the sensr is psitined near the exhaust fan r near a cld air fan. Micr-climates can cause inaccurate readings. Our sensrs are rated t be within ±0.5 C (±1 F) and can be NIST/ISO certified by an accredited lab t ensure this reading accuracy. Cmparing Against Our Sensrs When cmparing the temperature readings frm ur sensrs t anther thermmeter r data lgger, it's imprtant t be mindful f the fllwing: 1. The margin f errr f the cmparisn tl: Many thermstats will have a much higher margin f errr than ur sensrs, ±0.5 C (±1 F). 2. The temperature gradient f the rm, refrigeratr, r any ther placement is in three dimensins: Measuring the temperature in ne part f the lcatin can yield different results than in anther part f the same lcatin due t micr-climates. 3. Air temperature changes faster than the temperature f a large amunt f liquid: Air temperature in a refrigeratr may rise dramatically when the dr is pened, but the temperature f the cntents f the refrigeratr will rise mre slwly due t their increased thermal mass. We recmmend the use f a buffer vial (virtual r physical) t ensure prper readings are btained at all times. 4. IR guns measure surface temperature while ur sensrs measure ambient air temperature r buffered temperatures. Page 10 f 17 TempAlert Ethernet Gateway User Guide v 4.0
11 Using Wireless Sensrs When using wireless sensrs, please refer t belw: Setting Up the Hardware Ensure the Ethernet Gateway is pwered n. Battery Life Wireless Sensrs will run up t 5 years n the tw included Energizer Advanced Lithium AA batteries. The units can transmit as frequently as every 5 minutes and be in ambient temperatures dwn t -20 C withut shrtening the battery life. There are several situatins that will shrten the battery life: Sensr cnfiguratins that require the sensr t cnstantly remain pwered, such as rainfall and wind speed, will reduce the battery life. Standard sensrs such as temperature, humidity, and dry cntact will nt reduce the battery life. Page 11 f 17 TempAlert Ethernet Gateway User Guide v 4.0
12 Wireless sensrs that are nt within range f a gateway fr an extended perid f time will experience a decrease in battery life. If yu are using the wireless sensrs in thse cnditins, make sure yu have lw battery alert ntificatins setup. Changing the Batteries The status f the batteries can be seen frm the Wireless Sensr view page n the Insights mnitring dashbard. In additin, yu can setup a lw battery alert ntificatin t ntify yu when the batteries are lw n pwer. T change the batteries, carefully unscrew the cver. Remve the tw AA batteries and replace them with the same type (tw Energizer Advanced Lithium AA Batteries). Standard alkaline cells can be used, but they will nt perfrm well in cld cnditins and will prvide a much shrter lifespan. Page 12 f 17 TempAlert Ethernet Gateway User Guide v 4.0
