3 LCTN3003: Cnfiguring the MSNSwitch fr the LAN-Cell 3 Intrductin Fr unattended remte sites, maintaining Internet cnnectivity is a primary requirement. The MSNSwitch is an IP-enabled pwer utlet that can be prgrammed t cycle pwer t either f its tw utlets under a variety f circumstances, including lss f Internet cnnectivity. Pwer can als be switch n a scheduled basis r n demand by a remtely cnnected user. The MSNSwitch can be used t amelirate situatins such as lcked up equipment r t cnserve pwer at slar/battery pwered sites. This TechNte illustrates ne way t cnfigure the MSNSwitch t autmatically pwer-cycle the Prxicast LAN-Cell 3 ruter in the event that the LAN-Cell lses Internet cnnectivity fr mre than a certain number f minutes. Please refer t the MSNSwitch User Guide fr full details n all f the devices capabilities. Figure 1: MSNSwitch Plug the LAN-Cell 3 s pwer supply int ne f the MSNSwitch s utlets. Cnnect an Ethernet cable frm the MSNSwitch t ne f the LAN-Cell s Ethernet prts. Pwer n the MSNSwitch. Pwer n the LAN-Cell 3 and let it bt up (STAT LED n slid). The MSNSwitch will nt be accessible until the LAN-Cell bts up. Cnfigure the LAN-Cell 3 as needed fr yur USB mdem and applicatin settings. If yu need remte access t the MSNSwitch frm the Internet, add a Prt Frwarding rule fr prt 80 t the IP address f the MSNSwitch (Figure 2). Page 2

4 LCTN3003: Cnfiguring the MSNSwitch fr the LAN-Cell 3 Figure 2 In a web brwser, enter The default username=admin / passwrd=blank On the Cnfiguratin screen, change these settings (Figure 3): Set time-ut fr each Website / IP Address = 5 sec Number f cntinuus time-uts befre utlet(s) reset = 5 times Delay befre checking Website/IP Address after pwer reset = 3 minutes Click the Apply buttn t save these settings Figure 3 Page 3

5 LCTN3003: Cnfiguring the MSNSwitch fr the LAN-Cell 3 On the System Time screen, set the time-zne t match the time-zne selected fr the LAN-Cell (e.g. GMT/UTC) and als set the Daylight Savings Time parameters (Figure 4). Figure 4 Optinally, n the Schedule screen, create times when the MSNSwitch peridically pwer-cycles the LAN-Cell regardless f its Internet cnnectivity status. Yu may als schedule a peridic pwer-cycle n the System Time screen. On the Accunt screen, create a passwrd fr access t the MSNSwitch. On the Netwrk screen, change the Obtain an IP Address mde t Manually and set an IP address in the LAN-Cell lcal subnet (e.g / ). Set the Default Gateway address t the LAN-Cell s LAN address (e.g ) and set the DNS Server values t and (Figure 5) Figure 5 Page 4

6 LCTN3003: Cnfiguring the MSNSwitch fr the LAN-Cell 3 Pwer cycle the MSNSwitch and wait 3 minutes. At this pint the Green Internet LED and Blue UIS buttn shuld be illuminated. If the UIS LED is nt blue, press and hld the switch fr 2 secnds. If the Internet LED is nt green, cnfirm that the LAN-Cell has had an Internet cnnectin fr at least 3 minutes. The MSNSwitch will nw pwer cycle its utlets apprximately 60 secnds after it lses Internet cnnectivity thrugh the LAN-Cell. Yu can adjust this time using the parameters n the Cnfiguratin Screen, but we recmmend a minimum Delay f 3 minutes t give the LAN-Cell time t rebt and make an Internet cnnectin befre the MSNSwitch tests fr cnnectivity. See the Quick Start Guide included with the MSNSwitch and the User s Guide fr infrmatin n the MSNSwitch s advanced capabilities. NOTE: When subsequently cnfiguring the LAN-Cell, remember t temprarily disable the MSNSwitch (press the UIS buttn n the unit r in the web GUI) s that it des nt pwer-cycle the LAN-Cell during critical peratins such as firmware updates, etc. ### Page 5
