Electronics Digital Electronics System & Design MSE-06 Full Marks: 100 Unit-1: Number Systems: 24 hours 1.1 Introduction to Number Systems: Decimal, Binary, Octal and Hexadecimal systems, 1.2 conversion from Decimal to Binary, Binary to Decimal, Octal to Decimal and Decimal to octal, Hexadecimal to Binary and Binary to Hexadecimal, Decimal to Hexadecimal and Decimal to Hexadecimal s and 2s compliments of Binary numbers. 1.4 Binary Arithmetic: Binary and Hexadecimal addition, subtraction, multiplication, division. 1.5 Binary Codes: BCD, Excess- 3, Gray, ASCII, EBCDIC codes. Unit-2: Boolean Algebra & Digital Logic Circuits: 30 hours 2.1 Boolean Algebra: Boolean Laws and axioms. 2.2 Boolean representations- Sum of Product and Product of Sum, minterm, maxterm. 2.3 Reduction of Boolean expressions. 2.4 De Morgans theorems and its applications. 2.5 K-arnaugh map simplification, Quin Maclousky minimization. 2.6 Digital logic gates: NOT, AND, OR, NAND, NOR, Ex-OR gates. 2.7 Introduction to digital logic circuits: DTL, RTL, TTL, DCTL, I 2 L, HTL, ECL. 2.8 MOS gates, P-MOS and N-MOS Logic Gates, CMOS Logic Gates, Integrated Injection Logic (I 2 L), Comparison of Major IC Logic Types. Unit-3: Combinational & Sequential Circuits: 30 hours 3.1 Combinational circuits: Analysis and synthesis of combinational circuits, Multiplexer, Demultiplexer, Encoder, Decoder, Code-converter, Half Adder and Full adder, Subtractor, Comparator, Parity generator / checker, Priority encoder. 3.2 Sequential Circuits: Latches and Flip-flops, edge and level triggering, SR, JK, master-slave JK, D and T Flip-Flops; Registers- Buffer registers, shift registers: Serial-in serial-out, serial-in parallel-out, parallel-in parallel-out and parallel in serial-out, bidirectional and universal shift register.; Counters- Asynchronous and synchronous counters. Unit-4: Interface circuits: 4.1 Digital to Analog converter (DAC) -weighted resistor method, R-2R ladder method. 20 hours 4.2 Analog to Digital Converter (ADC) -parallel comparator method, counter method, successive approximation method, dual-slope method, Comparisons of different ADCs and DACs. 1
