1 Hi, my name is Jules (that s me in the photo below) and I am the founder of The Big Happiness Experiment, one of the UK s leading Mindset, Resilience and Happiness companies. If you take the time to practice the Joy Shots in this free booklet on a daily basis they will help you to hardwire happiness into your brain and your daily habits! Over the past thirteen years I have developed a practical system called Braintech which provides individuals, organisations, groups and schools with information, tools and techniques that help people to rethink, rewire and reboot more positive thoughts and behaviours. Within this System our Joy Shots provide simple and quick techniques to activate a new found energy of positivity in the mind and body! They re called Joy Shots because you literally get a shot of joy and happiness each time you practice them and when repeated regularly they ll change your brain structure for the better and reduce the level of stress hormones in your body. If you re serious about reducing your stress and improving your mental, emotional and physical health and well-being then the Joy Shots you ll find in this booklet will certainly help to kick-start your journey!

2 YOU have the ability to create your own energy and can impact your life with the way you think, the way you feel and the way you use your body. You have the ability to change your life from the inside out to create more peace, more resilience, more happiness, more sustainable success and ultimately a more joyful life! The Joy Shots in this booklet have been shared and practiced by thousands of people around the globe in seminars, conferences, courses and private coaching programmes so we re thrilled that you too are now getting the opportunity to learn some of the most powerful techniques to reboot your life and optimise your potential. Each Joy Shot comes with its own set of instructions to show you HOW to practice each new technique. We then share with you WHY it works and in many cases we ll give you the background science behind it to enable your rational mind to understand it a little further. Joy Shots are so powerful because they combine techniques that link your brain and body together in a positive and proactive way. In fact many of the Joy Shots use your physical body to engage your mind and brain in reverse order! Instead of getting stuck in your head thinking about how you can sort out your problems why not change your body language or even change your emotions? You ll be amazed how effective these changes can be and how much relief they can bring to you! JOY SHOTS are the tools to help you to do this!

3 Over the next few pages I have gifted you FIVE of my favourite Joy Shots which I hope you will practice (and keep practicing) over the next few days, weeks, months and years. Within our Braintech System I show you how the brain is mouldable through a process called neuroplasticity and Joy Shots are the key to making these positive changes in your habits and behaviours. Just before you move onto the juicy stuff I want to invite you to take a few moments to think about your life and ask yourself How happy, fulfilled and meaningful is my life right now? I wake up every morning and ask myself how I m going to connect to that BIGGER part of me; the part of me that knows deep down inside what truly makes me happy, content and in harmony with the world around me. I teach BIG HAPPINESS which is so much more than the surface level stuff that money can buy; it s about looking at all areas of your life and ditching what s not working and cranking up the good stuff. So why not start by asking yourself these three BIG questions that I ask myself every morning? 1. What do I want to experience in my life? 2. How do I want to grow? 3. What do I want to contribute to the planet?

4 Deep, slow and meaningful breathing has the amazing ability to calm down your mind and body when you re feeling stressed. When you do the GOLDEN BREATH you connect to a nerve in your body called the vagus nerve which runs from your brain right down through all your vital organs (your throat, your heart, your lungs etc) calming down your nervous system steadily through each breath. This Joy Shot is a brilliant reactive tool to use in a moment where you feel stressed, overwhelmed, angry or worried. However, it s much more effective if you practice it many times throughout the day so your body gets used to this new way of being. This will eventually act as a preventative tool because the more you calm your nervous system down the less likely it is to react so quickly to life s challenges!.

5 When you re trying to change habits and behaviours that are firmly embedded in your sub-conscious mind it takes a willingness to be consistent with your new techniques to give them time to grow new neural pathways in the brain. To help you start new positive habits we recommend that you anchor your new Joy Shots in your mind. This simply means that you attach your Joy Shot to something that makes it fun and easy to remember! So the easiest way to anchor in a new SMS Joy Shot is to do it every time your phone alerts you. When it rings just take a second to notice your shoulders and purposefully relax them, when a text alert or notification comes through do the same thing but also straighten up your back. And when you re scrolling through facebook or Instagram check that your back is straight, your shoulders are relaxed and you ve got a big beaming smile on your face as this will send all those feel good chemicals rushing round your bloodstream!

6 If you start a regular gratitude practice then you have the potential to be much happier than you were before, so what are you waiting for? This is a fun Joy Shot to enhance your minds ability to see more good in the world. We all come with a pre-programmed negativity bias that s designed to protect us from danger but our evolved brains (the pre-frontal cortex) have got into the annoying habit of over-thinking the dangers and this overshadows our perspective. To correct this imbalance we need to work at being more positive and noticing the good things happening around us. You see, we arrive on this planet with hardwiring that helps us to survive, it s then up to us to rewire this system to be hardwired to thrive and starting a Happy Jar will definitely kick start you on this journey! You will also be stimulating a part of your brain called the R.A.S. (reticular activating system) that is like the genie in the lamp and focuses on whatever you place your attention on, if you start thinking about what you ll place in your happy jar; your RAS will help subconsciously find more and more!

7 This Joy Shot is a brilliant way of energising the body and helping to integrate whole - brain thinking at the same time. Why don t you anchor this in to your morning routine? I do my Crazy Crossovers while I m waiting for the kettle to boil in the morning (and throughout the day) and they just come naturally to me now!

8 Affirmations can be a very powerful way to reprogramme your sub-conscious mind since words and thoughts that are consistently repeated become accepted as beliefs in your mind. Unfortunately there is no magic device to remove all the negative thoughts, such as the feeling that you re not enough, but a purposeful and consistent daily practice of telling yourself that you ARE ENOUGH will eventually defeat the old beliefs that you hold.
