3 INTRODUCTION This installation instruction is for Cutler Hammer Type SM mechanisms. These mechanisms are for circuit breakers mounted in Hoffman two door, floor mounted, enclosures with the disconnect on the right flange. Master Door INSTALLATION STEPS Step 1 Drill and tap holes required in panel; see figure 1 and table 1 dimensions for the specific Cutler Hammer mechanism to be installed. Step 2 Drill three additional holes in operator plate (item 1). Choose the appropriate hole pattern for mechanism being installed; see figure 2 or figure 3. If a dress plate is also used, drill two additional holes per dress plate instructions. Step 3 Install operator plate (item 1) and plate gasket (item 2) on the inside of the enclosure behind the rectangular opening provided; see figure 4. Secure in place with four screw (item 3). Step 4 Install spacer (item 4) on bracket provided on master door; see figure 5. Locate spacer vertically as shown. Secure in place with two screws (item 5) and two lockwashers (item 6). Install rod guide (item 13) as shown. Step 5 Drill two holes required in upper latch rod of master door as shown in figure 6. See table 1 for dimensions. Step 6 Install defeater (item 7 or 8) on master door latch rod as shown in figure 6. See table 1 to determine size of defeater to use. Secure in place with two screws (item 20), tow lockwashers (item 6), and two nuts (item 21). Step 7 Install Cutler Hammer type SM cover catch on spacer (item 4) following Cutler Hammer instructions. Step 8 Install Cutler Hammer operating mechanism on operator plate (installed in step 3) following Cutler Hammer instructions. Step 9 The Cutler Hammer type SM platforms should be supported with threaded rods as shown in figure 7. Cut threaded rod (item 9) to length required; see figure 7 and table 1. Thread the threaded rods into panel as shown in figure 7 and secure each rod to panel and platform with three nuts (item 10) and two lockwashers (item 11) Step 10 Adjust defeater on latch rod. With proper adjustment the switch or breaker cannot be turned ON until just before the master door is fully latched. Move defeater up or down as required. NOTE: Some type SM operators must be held in the extreme OFF position to open master door. Step 11 Remove and discard parts shown in figure 8. These parts are not required for Type SM mechanisms. 7 INTRODUCTION This installation instruction is for Cutler Hammer Type SM mechanisms. These mechanisms are for circuit breakers mounted in Hoffman one through six door, free standing, enclosures with the disconnect on the right flange. Master Door INSTALLATION STEPS Step 1 Drill and tap holes required in panel; see figure 1 and table 1 dimensions for the specific Cutler Hammer mechanism to be installed.
