1 Warning Beacon Option Manual (Series 5000 Bulk Melter/Applicators) Page 1 WARNING BEACON OPTION INSTALLATION (5Gallon and 551Gallon Units) DESCRIPTION The Nordson@ Warning Beacon option (P/N ) is composed of a preassembled lens-and-bulb light tower assembly with mounting hardware The amber portion of the warning beacon will go ON when a relay switch on the Series 5000 unit senses that the amount of material in the &gallon pail or 55gallon drum has dropped to a preset low level When the relay switch on the unit senses that the amount of material in the pail or drum has dropped to a preset empty level and the Empty Drum feature is installed, the red portion of the warning beacon will flash ON and OFF and the bulk melter clutch is disengaged (units with clutch) or the motor disabled (units without clutch) NOTE: The Empty Drum feature is an option which may not be present on your unit UNPACKING INSTRUCTIONS The warning beacon is visible for at least 35 ft (107 m) and is useful in assisting the equipment operator with maintaining an adequate supply of material at the unit, especially when the operator cannot be physically present at the unit at all times The warning beacon kit is shipped preassembled with mounting hardware However, operator-drilled holes in the top of the electrical enclosure are required Complete details are included inside this publication Carefully remove the kit components from the shipping container and compare them with the list and illustration on the next page Inspect the components for obvious signs of damage If damage is found, contact your Nordson sales representative (Nordson is a registered trademark of Nordson Corporation) Publication No Nordson Corporation 1990 Issued 990

3 Warning Beacon Option Manual (Series 5000 Bulk Melter/Applicators) Page 3 SAFETY PRECAUTIONS A 3 WARNING: The Series 5000 unit contains energized electrical components with potentials that could be fatal Disconnect and lock out input electrical power from the unit before proceeding further The terminal blocks remain electrically energized even with the main disconnect switch set to OFF Only qualified personnel should install and operate this equipment Failure to observe this warning could result in death NOTE: Installing this kit without first removing and locking out input electrical power to the unit can cause damage to the unit NOTE: Ensure that all electrical connections are made correctly Incorrect connections may cause equipment damage INSTALLATION All item numbers (in parentheses) refer to the parts list and illustration on page 2 of this publication Refer to your Series 5000 manual wiring diagram for exact locations of terminal connections 1 Disconnect and lock out input electrical power from the unit 2 Unlatch and open the electrical enclosure door 3 Using the pattern in Figure 2 and dimensions in Figure 3 as guides, drill the necessary mounting holes in the top of the electrical enclosure NOTE: Use a plastic bag or similar arrangement to catch metal filings as the holes are drilled Loose metal filings can cause short circuits and equipment damage Publication No Nordson Corporation 1990 Issued 5190

5 Warning Beacon Option Manual (Series 5000 Bulk Melter/Applicators) Page 5 A CAUTION: Nordson recommends using a chassis punch to produce the center hole for the warning beacon wire group Using a drill or other means could produce ragged metal edges that could cause operator injury or damage to the wire group itself 4 Thread the wire group (9) through the center hole produced in step 3 of this procedure Secure the warning beacon base (7) and gasket (8) to the top of the electrical enclosure using the pan head screws (lo), hex machine nuts (ll), split lockwashers (12) and flat washers (13) provided in this kit 5 Connect the ground wire from the warning beacon to the ground stud assembly on the electrical enclosure door 6 Connect wire 38W from the warning beacon to bulk melter terminal XTl- 17 NOTE: Refer to your Series 5000 wiring diagram for the exact location of wire and terminal locations 7 Connect wire 51B from the warning beacon to wire 51A where it terminates at component Hl on the inside of the electrical enclosure door 8 (Units equipped with the Empty Drum feature) Connect wire 53B from the warning beacon to wire 53A where it terminates at component H2 on the inside of the electrical enclosure door NOTE: Ifyour unit is not equipped with the Empty Drum feature, wrap the loose end of wire 53B with electrical insulating tape, then tape this wire to the side of the enclosure away from any terminal connections Failure to isolate this wire may allow wire 53B to contact other wires during normal operation and cause equipment damage 9 Close and latch the electrical enclosure door Reconnect input power to the unit and resume normal operation as detailed in your Series 5000 manual Publication No Nordson Corporation 1990 lssued5/90

6 Manual Page 6 Warning Beacon Option (Series 5000 Bulk Melter/Applicators) LIGHT TOWER BULB REPLACEMENT Item numbers (in parentheses) refer to Figure 1 1 Disconnect and lock out input electrical power from the unit 2 Remove the screw from the warning beacon cover (1) Lift the cover from the unit 3 Remove the screw from the amber lens assembly (3) Lift the lens assembly (with bulb) from the unit 4 (Skip this step if this bulb is not burned out) Rotate the bulb (6) one-quarter turn counterclockwise and remove the bulb from the assembly Replace the bulb with a new one 5 Remove the screw from the red lens assembly (5) Lift the lens assembly (with bulb) from the unit 6 Rotate the bulb (6) one-quarter turn counterclockwise and remove the bulb from the assembly Replace the bulb with a new one 7 Reassemble the warning beacon 8 Reconnect input power to the unit and resume normal operation as detailed in your Series 5000 manual Issued Nordson Corporation 1990 Publication No
