To activate functions, te master combination must be canged at te time of installation. Important: Carefully inspect windows, doorframe, door, etc. to ensure tat te recommended procedures will not cause damage. Door tickness >2 1 2" to 3 3 4" (64 mm to 95 mm), part# XXX; (XXX = coice of finis). Important: For temperatures below 32 F (0ºC), order Litium batteries (part # K) Do not use Litium batteries on s to be installed on UL fire rated doors or indoors. 4 A. DOOR PREPARATION Note: Drill from bot sides of te door to prevent unsigtly damage. A-1 Determine wic template fits your E-Plex 2000 installation (eiter te 2 3 8" [60 mm] Backset or te 2 3 4" [70 mm] Backset). A-2 Place appropriate paper template (supplied) onto door and mark for oles. Drill te tree 1 2" (13 mm) oles first. Next drill te 2 1 8" (54 mm) cross bore ole. Drill te 1" (25 mm) ole last. A-3 Mortise door edge for latc unit faceplate 3 16" (5 mm) deep to dimensions sown. Insert latc unit into te 1" (25 mm) ole, making certain tat te latc bolt bevel faces direction of closing door. A-4 Secure te latc to te door using two 1" (25 mm) Pillips Mounting screws supplied. Latc unit faceplate must be flus wit door (for doors wit 1" diameter ole, use sleeve on latc). Sleeve to be installed on te latc for doors wit existing 1" diameter ole D B-2 Remove te two connecting screws from te cylindrical drive unit. Rotate cylindrical drive unit 180º. Reposition spacer(s) as found before disassembly. Remount drive unit wit te two connecting screws. C. DOOR THICKNESS LH Assembly RH Assembly Cylindrical Drive Unit Position Te cylindrical unit and plate assembly is sipped assembled in factory for 1 3 4" (44 mm) door tickness ( " [43 mm] to less tan 1 7 8" [48 mm]) wit 2 spacers "04"; 1 spacer "02" and 2 flat ead screws 5 8" (16 mm) LG. For oter door ticknesses, use door tickness table for appropriate spacers and screws included in te ardware bag. C-1 Prepare attacment plate and cylindrical drive unit for door ticknesses less tan " (43 mm) or 1 7 8" (48 mm) and above according to te Door Tickness Table, on te next page. INSTALLING OPTIONAL KEY OVERRIDE AND OUTSIDE LEVER Important: Assemble te lever, cylinder and components before affixing te entire unit to te door. D-1 Upon unpacking, te ousing wit mecanical override sould look like te diagram below wit: Te small indents (i) on te cross of te override saft (m) in line orizontally Te nylon waser (c) and te spring waser (d) on te drive tube Te lever catc (f) in te out position Cylinder (j) and 2 keys (n) included in te ardware bag (i) (f) (c, d) (m) (n) (j) Lengt 3 8" (10 mm) Lengt 1 2" (13 mm) Lengt 5 8" (16 mm) Lengt 3 4" (19 mm) Lengt 7 8" (22 mm) D-2 Turn te override saft 90º cwise so tat te two small indents on te cross are now vertically in line. (Te cylinder can be used to turn override saft.) D-3 Pus in te lever catc firmly. f 8 9

6 D-4 Insert te cylinder (j) into te lever andle (). D-5 Put te cylinder plug (k) into te lever (). j k D-8 Fit te lever andle () onto te drive tube. It sould rest approximately 1 16" (2 mm) from te body of te ousing. If it can t be pused tat close to te ousing, te lever catc (f) is probably not pused in. Pus it in. If te lever catc (f) is stuck, te override saft is in te wrong position. Te two small indents on te cross of te override saft must be vertically aligned. Countersink (g) in TOP Position Left-Handed Rigt-Handed Countersink (g) in BOTTOM Position D-6 Making sure tat te cylinder plug (k) does not fall out, insert te key into te cylinder (j). Te key will be orizontal. Caution: Te position of te key is very important. If te lever is not assembled wit te key in te correct position before placing te lever on te ousing, te inside mecanism of te could be damaged if te lever is rotated and forced. D-7 For Rigt-Handed Levers: Turn te key approximately 90º cwise so tat it is in te vertical position and te countersink (g) is in te top position. For Left-Handed Levers: Turn te key approximately 90º cwise so tat it is in te vertical position and te countersink (g) is in te bottom position. j Countersink (g) in te top position D-9 Press te lever firmly against te ousing wile turning te key counter-cwise (tis applies to bot Rigt-Handed and Left-Handed s) until it is in te orizontal position. Important: If it is not possible to turn te key counter-cwise to complete tis step, te spring waser (d) may be too tense: Tap te lever carefully wit a rubber mallet to loosen te spring waser (d). Cover te lever andle wit a clot or oter material to protect te finis of te metal. Left-Handed Rigt-Handed Countersink (g) in te bottom position 10 11

7 D-10 Remove te key. Te will look as sown at rigt. D-11 Gently ceck te rotation of te lever andle. It sould easily rotate approximately 45º. Troublesooting: If you ave assembled te lever and ousing wit te key in te wrong position, te key will get stuck. To remove te key, turn it so tat it is in te vertical position and insert a small flat screwdriver into te ole under te lever andle to pus te lever catc in (f). Remove key. If it is still stuck, turn te key 90º cwise to te orizontal position and pus te Lever Catc in again wit te small screwdriver. Remove key. Left-anded Rigt-anded E-2 Test te Movement of te Lever (witout te key in cylinder) a. Turn te lever () cwise for a Rigt- Handed or counter-cwise for a Left-Handed b. Release te lever slowly. It sould return freely to its orizontal position. c. If te lever doesn t easily return to its original position, te spring waser (d) is probably too tigt. Use a rubber mallet to tap te lever carefully against te ousing to reduce te tension of te spring waser (d), until te lever moves freely back to its orizontal position wen turned slowly. F. TESTING THE MECHANICAL KEY OVERRIDE Troublesooting: Rigt-Handed Lock: Turn te lever andle cwise witout forcing it. If it stops at approximately 15º, it was not assembled correctly. Do not try to force it to turn - tis will damage te inside mecanism of te. Release te lever andle. Insert te small screwdriver into te small ole on te underside of te lever andle and pus in te lever catc. Re-do steps in section D Left-Handed Lock: Turn te lever andle counter-cwise witout forcing. Te drive ub sould not rotate wen te lever andle is turned. If it does, it was not assembled correctly. Release te lever andle. Insert te small screwdriver into te small ole on te underside of te lever andle and pus in te lever catc. Re-do steps in section D Important: Te Key Override itself does not retract te latc or deadbolt. Do not use too muc force wen turning te key as tis may damage te unit. To retract te latc, turn te key cwise until it stops, release te key and turn te lever. Note: Te lever must stay in te orizontal position wen turning te key (do not try to turn te key wile turning te lever) or te override mecanism will not work. F-1 Witout using te key, turn te lever cwise for Rigt-Handed s or counter-cwise for Left-Handed s. Te inside drive ub sould not rotate wen te lever turns. E. TESTING THE OPERATION OF THE OUTSIDE LEVER E-1 Verify tat te lever as been correctly attaced to te ousing: a. Remove key. b. Insert a small flat screwdriver into te ole on te underside of te lever andle and pus in te lever catc. c. Pull on te lever. You sould not be able to remove te lever. If te lever comes off of te ousing, te is not assembled correctly. Return to steps in section D and repeat tis verification process. Inside drive ub does not move 12 13

8 F-2 Wit te lever () in te orizontal position, insert te key (n) into te cylinder and turn it cwise until it stops. (Tis applies to bot Rigt and Left-Handed s.) n F-5 To remove te cap (i), insert a small flat screwdriver into tis groove and gently pry te cap off, being careful not to damage it. Cover te bottom of te lever to protect te finis from being scratced troug te process of removing te cap. i F-3 Let go of te key, and again turn te lever andle () cwise for Rigt-Handed s or counter-cwise for Left-Handed s. Now te inside drive ub (b) sould rotate in te same direction as te lever andle wen it is turned. F-4 Install cap (i) to cover key ole. Te cap as a small groove on one edge (to allow ease of removal). Tis sould be facing down. Insert bottom snap of cap in lever ole below te cylinder. Wit a small screwdriver, pus top snap of cap down wile pusing te cap into place. Hole below cylinder b Top snap (Second) n G. CHANGING LOCK CYLINDERS G-1 Remove te cap from te outside lever (). G-2 Insert key (n). G-3 Turn te key cwise until it stops. G-4 Release key (n). G-5 Use a small flat screwdriver to pus in te lever catc troug te small ole underneat te outside lever G-6 Pull te outside lever () off of te ousing (be careful not to lose te cylinder plug). G-7 Replace te old cylinder wit te new one in te lever andle. Only te same kind of cylinder wit 2 grooves in cross in te end of te cylinder plug can be used on te. G-8 Re-insert te cylinder plug (k). G-9 Wile olding te cylinder (j) and plug (k) in place, insert te key. G-10 Follow steps in section D, Grooves in cross j k n i (First) 14 15

9 H. INSTALLING LOCK HOUSINGS H-1 Insert te slotted end of te square spindle into te outside lever ub until it s, at an angle of 45º. (Te spindle can be removed by pulling on it, if oriented incorrectly.) Square Spindle Position correct incorrect H-5 Place te inside trim assembly on te door so tat te spindles (o) engage te inside lever. Fasten to te outside ousing using te tree 1 8" (3 mm) ex drive mounting screws (p). H-2 Assemble gasket onto te outside ousing (a). Assemble cylindrical plate assembly onto te outside ousing. Cylindrical Plate Assembly o p I. INSTALLING BATTERY PACK Gasket Note: If te makes a continuous buzzing noise or te red LED ligts continuously, reset te electronics by removing te battery older for ten seconds, ten reinsert it. H-3 Place te outside ousing (a) and cylindrical plate assembly on te door so tat spindle engages ub of cylindrical unit of latc. a (outside) cylindrical unit latc Note: If installing te outdoors, substitute te stainless steel battery screw (H) for te screw provided wit te. For weater conditions below 32ºF (0º C), replace te batteries provided wit te wit Litium batteries (part # K). Do not use Litium batteries on s to be installed on UL fire rated doors, or indoors. Warning! To avoid possible explosion and risk of injury or fire, doublececk te polarity of Litium batteries. I-1 Tree AA batteries sould already be installed in te battery older (q). I-2 Insert te battery older into te outside ousing and secure it using te 6-32 x 5 16" (8 mm) torx drive screw (r). H-4 On te inside trim assembly, turn te lever to te correct orizontal rest position for te anding of te door. Install te tension spring (l) between te andle () and te post (p). q p l r 16 17

10 J. TESTING THE OPERATION OF THE LOCK J-1 Rotate inside lever and old. Ensure tat te latc is fully retracted and flus wit te latc faceplate. Release te inside lever; te latc sould be fully extended. J-2 Enter te factory-set combination: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8. You sould see a green ligt and ear a ig pitced tone as you pus eac button. Wen te opens, you will briefly ear te sound of an electronic motor. Rotate outside lever and old. Ensure tat te latc is fully retracted and flus wit te latc faceplate. Release te outside lever; te latc sould be fully extended. Wen te re-s, you will again ear te motor. J-3 Wit te te door open, verify functionality of te mecanical Key Override as detailed in Section F. K. INSTALLING THE STRIKE Note: Use only te strike and strike box supplied. Te use of non-approved parts will result in a functionality problem and may void te warranty. Caution: Ceck te operation of te latc by making sure tat te deadlatc stops against te strike as sown and does not slide into te strike opening wen te door is closed. If tat situation occurs, ten a total out may occur. Tis will void our warranty of te complete mecanism. If necessary, correct te door over-travel by using te rubber bumpers as described in Section L (Installing Rubber Bumpers). L. INSTALLING RUBBER BUMPERS L-1 Close te door and apply pressure making sure te deadlatc (a) rests on te strike plate (b) as sown. Standing on te frame (door stop) side of te door, ceck for gaps between te door and te frame on te tree sides of te frame (left, rigt, and top). Correct a b K-1 Mark location of strike on te door frame, making certain tat te strike opening is aligned wit latc bolt. L-2 Mark locations were te gaps are approximately 3 16" (5 mm). Make sure tese locations are free from grease and dust. Peel te bumpers (c) from teir protective backing witout toucing te adesive surface and stick tem on te marked locations. c K-2 Mortise doorframe for strike 3 32" (3 mm) deep minimum to dimensions sown. Secure strike to te door frame using two 1" (25 mm) combination screws. 11/4" (31mm) 3 3/8" (84mm) Note: Allow 24 ours for adesive to set before testing.
