2 Step 1 Lead Screw Upgrade Begin by powering off and unplugging your R1 3D Printer. Unplug the USB cable. Remove your filament holder. Step 2 Carefully place your R1 on its side. (Please note the orientation of your machine). Position the R1 so the bottom is facing you. (Please ensure your machine is oriented in the same direction as photographed) 2017 guide.robo3d.com Page 2 of 14

3 Step 3 Unscrew the six screws securing the bottom plate to your ROBO 3D Printer. Carefully pull back the bottom case, without ripping the attached cable. Unplug the cooling fan from the electronics board. Step 4 Rotate your R1 so it is facing you. Slowly slide your X-Axis carriage to the top of your printer guide.robo3d.com Page 3 of 14

4 Step 5 Unscrew the Z-Axis end stops. Ensure you do this both to the left and right end stops. (Note: In picture #2 the arrow is referencing the right end stop) Step 6 Now, on the underside of your ROBO R1, carefully cut the zip tie holding all the wires together. Locate the Z Axis stepper motor wires on your electronics board guide.robo3d.com Page 4 of 14

5 Step 7 Unplug the left stepper motor cable which should be connected to the motor closest to the electronics board Unravel the pigtail (spiral wrap) that leads to the far z motor. Step 8 Unplug the other z motor from your electronics board. (Right side) 2017 guide.robo3d.com Page 5 of 14

6 Step 9 Loosen the screws on both z end stop brackets Slide the z end stop bracket off the hex nut guide.robo3d.com Page 6 of 14

7 Step 10 Unscrew the four screws holding each z motor in place. Please hold the motor from the underside of the printer while removing the screws- this will stop the motor from falling once all screws are removed. Slide the motor out the bottom of the printer as shown Complete this on both the left and right motor 2017 guide.robo3d.com Page 7 of 14

8 Step 11 Take a breather. You're now done removing all the old parts and now onto the installation of your lead screws Step 12 Ensure the hex nut is about 6 inches from the top of the motor. (Picture A) Note- one motor has a longer cable than the other. Take the motor with the longer cable and insert it into the top (left) hole. Orient the motor so the cable is facing the front of the R guide.robo3d.com Page 8 of 14

9 Step 13 When inserting the lead screw, make sure the lead screw enters the hole on the X axis carriage Secure each motor using 4 screws. Step 14 With both lead screws now installed, you can now install the new z axis end stop brackets Both brackets will be oriented in the same direction- with the hook on the left side. Take the end stop bracket, and slide it over the lead screw Then, clip the z axis bracket onto the x axis carriage as pictured Complete this step on both the left and right sides guide.robo3d.com Page 9 of 14

10 Step 15 Now, with the z axis end stop brackets attached, slide the x axis carriage onto the hex nuts. As pictured, the x axis carriage now can rest on the hex nuts. Step 16 Now, on the bottom side of your R1 3D Printer, take the longer (farther) stepper motor wire, and plug it into the right set of pins. PLEASE note orientation (Blue wire up). Re-install the pigtail wire, starting at the top motor working your way down to the middle motor. Include the y axis motor (middle motor) in the pigtail guide.robo3d.com Page 10 of 14

11 Step 17 Now, take the bottom (closer) motor and plug it into the other set of pins. Feel free to place a new zip tie to cleanup the wires. Step 18 Now, we will re-install the bottom plate. Re-install the bottom case cooling fan, with the positive (red) wire on the left side. Now, you can snap the bottom plate back into place. Secure the bottom plate with the 6 bottom case screws guide.robo3d.com Page 11 of 14

12 Step 19 Place the machine upright. The x-axis carriage should not slam down since it is clipped into the hex nuts. To complete the installation we need to remove the top case. Please cut the zip tie securing your extruder cables, in the top of your case. Unscrew the four screws securing the top case. Step 20 With the top case removed, you can now re-install the z-axis end stops While ensuring the X-Axis carriage is all the way down on the nut, raise the z-axis bracket so it is touching the x axis carriage As you can see in picture #3, there is a gap between the end stop bracket and x carriage. 13 Step 21 Using the screw and lock nut from the old z axis end stop brackets, secure the new z axis end stop brackets. Step 22 Now that end stop brackets are installed, we can install the end stops themselves. With the orange tab facing out, secure the end stops back to the brackets guide.robo3d.com Page 13 of 14

14 Step 23 Re-install the top case, and secure it using the 4 screws. With a zip tie, re-secure the extruder wire chassis. to the top case. Step 24 Head to our Firmware Page to download and install the latest firmware for the Lead Screw Upgrade Kit. Once you have upgraded your firmware, you finished your Lead Screw Upgrade.
