2 New Orientation of the Legacy Step one: Re-orientation of the machine Remove the X-axis screw and supports. You also need to remove the Z-axis and carriage tray. Flip the machine around and re-attach the screw as seen in the picture. Now you have reset the machines zeros to both be positive. This is very important in ease of operation of the CNC. Step two: Re-attach the Z-axis. Re-attach the Z-axis to the machine. Again the Headstock should be to the left side of the machine if you are on the operators side. In the above pictures the inner bed is set at it s maximum height. This is done of ease of explanation. When using the CNC it is best if the Legacy is set as deep as possible. This will control the sawdust and reduce setup time. Note: you may remove the index pin from the Headstock, as it is no longer necessary.

3 Mounting the X-axis stepper Motor X-axis stepper hardware 2- #10 Star washers X 3/4 cap screws 1-1/2 bore spider coupler 1-5/8 bore spider coupler 1- BUNA-N spider hub 1- Y-axis shaft Step one: Changing the shaft The x-axis drive shaft that came with the machine is removed is and replaced with the new shaft from the hardware kit. Note: snug, but do not excessively tighten the set screws onto the new shaft. This will be done when the motor is mounted and aligned. The new shaft attached to the machine. Step two: Attaching the couplers Put the 5/8 bore coupler onto the new drive shaft. Insert the BUNA-N spider hub into the coupler..

4 Mounting the X-axis stepper Motor Con d The X-axis stepper motor Each stepper is attached to the mounting bracket. Match your motor to the picture on the left. Step three: the motor coupler Slide the 1/2 bore spider coupler onto the shaft of the X-axis stepper. Leave the set screw loose so that the coupler moves freely. Step four: mounting the motor Using the two capscrews and star washers provided, attach the motor to the Legacy. Leave the screws loose until the couplers have been engaged. Step five: engaging the couplers With the screws loose, push the two couplers together until they are fully engaged. After the couplers are engaged, tighten the two capscrews on the motor mount. Finally tighten the two set screws on the couplers.

5 Mounting the A-axis stepper motor The A-axis stepper motor A-Axis stepper hardware 1- Stepper gear 1-- 5/16 x 1/2 button head cap screw 1-3/8 flat washer 4- #10 flat washers 4- #10 star washers x 5/8 capscrews 2- IS1051 locking plates x 3/8 phillips screw x 1/2 phillips screw Step one: mounting the spindle gear Using the 5/16 button head cap screw, attach the spindle gear to the spindle shaft. Notice that the tab on the spindle gear is facing the machine.

6 Mounting the A-axis stepper motor con d Step three: the stepper Slide the stepper gear onto the shaft of the motor, leave the set screw loose. Step four: mounting the motor Using the washers, capscrews, and locking plates, slide the motor mount onto the inner rails of the Legacy. Tighten capscrews when the motor mount is pressed firmly against the headstock. Step five: aligning the gears Slide the stepper gear front to back until the gears align. Tighten the set screw on the stepper gear Next adjust the motor tension by loosening the two capscrews located to either side of the stepper. Slide the motor into the spindle gear until the backlash is out. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN

7 Mounting the A-axis Limit Switch Each limit switch has a different mounting bracket. Match the limit switch to the picture. Step one: Mounting the A-axis limit switch. Using the two x 1/2 phillips head screws attach the A-axis limit switch to the mounting bracket. Notice how the limit switch is inside the spindle gear.

8 Mounting the A-axis gear cover The X-axis gear cover This will be found wrapped in brown paper. Step one: Mounting the cover Using the two x 3/8 phillips screws attach the gear cover to the motor plate. Step two: The gear cover should mount up against the headstock of the Legacy.

9 Mounting the Z-axis stepper motor Z-axis stepper hardware 4- #10 flat washers 4- #10 star washers x 5/8 capscrews 2- IS1051 locking plates 1-1/2 bore spider coupler 1-5/8 bore spider coupler 1- BUNA-N spider hub x 1/2 phillips screws 1- Router cord support bracket The Z-axis stepper motor Notice that the motor is offset, this is important when attaching the side plates The side plates Notice that there is a left and a right side plate. Step one: attaching the side plates Using four of the x 1/2 phillips screws attach the side plates to the motor mounting bracket making sure that the motor is opposite the angle on the side plate. Step two: Mount the gears to the Z-axis and the stepper motor as seen to the right. Align the gears and tighten.

10 Mounting the Y-axis stepper motor Step one: The y-axis screw Flip the y-axis screw around so that the extension shaft is facing the rear of the machine. The front screw support bracket should be approximately 3/4 of an inch from the front of the rail. Y-axis stepper hardware 2- #10 Star washers 2- #10 flat washers X 3/4 Capscrews 2- IS1050 #10 locking plates 1-1/2 bore spider coupler 1-5/8 bore spider coupler 1- BUNA-N spider hub Step two: Attaching the couplers Put the 5/8 bore coupler onto the extension shaft. Insert the BUNA-N spider hub into the coupler. Put the 1/2 bore coupler onto the stepper motor. Leave the set screw loose. Step three: Mounting the motor Attach the two locking plates to the inside of the motor bracket and slide it onto the underside of the carriage rail. Lightly tighten the cap screws and engage the couplers. After the couplers are engaged tighten the set screws and the capscrews.

11 Mounting the Cable supports Step one: Mounting the Y-axis Cable support bracket bolt the mounting bracket to the top of the Y-axis stepper mounting bracket as seen to the right. There are two x 1/2 capscrews provided. Step 2: Mounting the A-axis Cable support bracket Attach the mounting bracket to the headstock side of the machine on the back side as seen to the right. Thereare two x 5/8 capscrews provided.

12 Mounting the Emergency Stop Step one:the cap screws Remove the lower cap screw from the right side plate. Attach the emergency stop by putting the existing cap screw through the lower hole of the emergency stop. Attach but do not tighten. Step two: finish Take the upper cap screw out and rotate the emergency stop into position. Screw the cap screw back into the hole and tighten both the screws.

13 The motor cables All four of the stepper motor cables have twist lock connectors The X-axis Find the wire that is labeled X-axis, this wire attaches below the X-axis stepper motor. The Y-axis Find the wire labeled Y-axis, this wire is attached just to the right of the stepper motor. The Z-axis Find the wire labeled Z-axis, this wire attaches just behind the stepper motor. The A-axis Find the wire labeled A-axis, this wire is attached just to the right if the stepper motor. Plugging in the router The router is plugged into the back side of the emergency stop. The excess wire is zip-tied with the remaining three zip-ties to the router cord support.
