Participants will discover the region s architecture from its early beginnings to the present. 2. Examine how enlightened clients, a climate for open discussion, the cooperation of the authorities, and a broad consensus on aesthetic qualities have all contributed to the appreciation and promotion of contemporary architectural principles. 3. Combining historical precedents and vernacular context with built examples, it will illustrate how deeply today s architectural culture is rooted in Vorarlberg s longstanding tradition of timber construction and building craft. 4. Illustrate how the region s unique and sensitive approach to building has significant potential to serve as a contemporary model for sustainable movements in the United States and worldwide.
