Club Meetings at PHEC are the 2 nd Wednesday of the month, 7-9 pm and Shop Tours or Sawdust Sessions are the 3 rd Saturday of the month, 9am-Noon. Turning Special Interest Group (SIG) meets in Room 108 at PHEC, 7pm the first Thursday of each month. We need you to get your checks for $10 per person to Jeff Traeger so we can complete the planning for the Summer BBQ in Pleasant Hill. The BBQ will again be at the Pleasant Hill Park, Gregory and Cleveland Streets. 6 pm to 9 pm, August 8 th. Again this year this is a Potluck BBQ. George Lucido has cooks signed up to BBQ the burgers. All the fixen s will be set out. We need each of you to bring a Salad, Side Dish or Dessert, enough for 6 people. Wine, beer, sodas, water and ICE CREAM will be provided. Make your checks out to Diablo Woodworkers, and send to Jeff Traeger, 6 Daisy Lane, Orinda CA SEPTEMBER 19 (THE 3 RD WEDNESDAY) MEETING, PHEC ROOM 112, 7-9 PM DAN STALZER FINE WOODWORKING CHAIR MAKER Dan Stalzer makes greenwood ladderback chairs, and use the greenwoodworking process when appropriate in making one of a kind furniture pieces for speculation and commission. He teaches greenwood chairmaking for a living and uses native and local hardwoods such as Tan Oak, Madrone, Acacia, etc. Simple hand tools predominate in his chairmaking JULY 28 SHOP TOUR IS ON THE 4 TH SATURDAY 10:00 AM NOON GORDON FRY S SHOP, 4625 CANDLEWOOD COURT, CONCORD, Continuing the Colonial Cupboard project and a tour of Gordon s shop. Gordon will explain the process used to assemble the cabinet face frame, plinth and cove molding. As usual Cookies and Coffee will be served. Plus Andy Ferguson is providing Ice Cream. Directions: From I-680 drive east bound on Treat Blvd. Follow Treat Blvd to Clayton Rd. Turn right at Clayton Road and turn left at Thornton Drive. Turn right on Candlewood Court. 1

2 AUGUST 18, SHOP TOUR, 10:00 AM - NOON CHUCK COTTRIL S SHOP, 1687 SUNCREST COURT, Continuing the Colonial Cupboard project and a tour of Chuck s shop. There will be an open discussion of the several methods of creating a raised panel for the Colonial Cupboard door. Other Activities - Tool Swap/Sell: Chuck has a number of plywood and solid wood cutoffs plus other items that need new homes. Everyone is invited to participate, so if you have tools etc. that you would like to swap or sell bring then with you. Directions: From the intersection of Geary Rd and North Main in Pleasant Hill drive northbound on North Main one block and turn left on Sunnyvale. Turn left from Sunnyvale on to Suncrest Ct SEPTEMBER 15, SHOP TOUR, 10 AM TO NOON ROSS THOMPSON S SHOP, 206 BEAR OAKS COURT, BRIONES, We ll have a special tour of Ross s new shop. Also this is the last stop for the Colonial Cupboard project, we ll have an open discussion on the methods used to finish the cupboard. Directions: Going East or West on Highway 24,exit Orinda and turn Northbound following Camino Pablo 2.3 miles. Turn right at Bear Creek Rd. Continue on Bear Creek Rd 6.7 miles, turn right onto Bear Oaks Dr. Take the first right onto Bear Oaks Drive. From Highway 4 in Martinez exit at Alhambra Ave and drive Southbound. Turn right at Alhambra Valley Rd. Continue on Alhambra Valley Rd for 4.8 mile to Bear Creek Rd. Turn left onto Bear Creek Rd for 1.7 miles. Turn left onto Bear Oaks Drive and the first right onto Bear Oaks Ct. COMMUNITY PROJECTS UP-DATE Gordon Fry put together these display cabinets for the Clayton Museum George Lucido s group made these sign stands for the Taylor Foundation at Camp Arroyo in Livermore The Community Project Committee is looking for worthwhile projects where our woodworking skill can be of use. The right cabinet displays Diablo Woodworkers projects. New projects are put in the cabinets every 2 months so be sure and stop by to see the current displays. 5

6 MEMORIAL FLAG CASE PROJECT These cases will be given out free to any local Fire or Police family member that is lost in the line of duty. Plans for these cases are on our club web site. Gordon Fry, , is the Chairperson for this project. Flag Cases were given to several local police and fire fighting families over past years.
