3 OVERVIEW This document contains Installation Recommendations for the Icopal Roofgard SP1 Clamping Ring Outlet onto a Monarplan PVC, Sureplan FPO or Icopal Universal Single Ply Membrane in a warm deck roof build up. The outlet may also be installed in cold and inverted roof situations, in both new build and refurbishment scenarios. The Icopal SP1 range of clamping ring type outlets has been specifically designed to provide a secure and durable seal between the aluminium body and Icopal single ply roofing membranes. PREPARATION WARM DECK ROOFS ICOPAL SP1 INSULATION BOX The height of the Icopal SP1 Insulation Box should match the height of the main deck insulation at the point where the Icopal SP1 Outlet is to be

WARM DECK ROOFS VAPOUR CONTROL LAYER AND TIMBER KERB The vapour control layer should be installed in accordance with current installation instructions.

The internal dimensions of the timber kerb should allow the 600 x 600mm Icopal Insulation Box to fit snugly inside. The height of the timber kerb should match that of the surrounding insulation layer.

5 PREPARATION WARM DECK ROOFS ICOPAL SP1 INSULATION BOX The height of the Icopal SP1 Insulation Box should match the height of the main deck insulation at the point where the Icopal SP1 Outlet is to be installed (unless a sump detail is to be created, in which case the Insulation Box thickness would be less than the main deck insulation thickness). The standard depth of the SP1 Insulation Box is 90mm therefore if, for example, the main deck insulation thickness is 110mm, then 2 No. 10mm thick SP1 Insulation Box Shims should be used below the SP1 Insulation Box to raise it 20mm to the height of the main deck insulation. See diagram on previous page. WARM DECK ROOFS VAPOUR CONTROL LAYER AND TIMBER KERB The vapour control layer should be installed in accordance with current installation instructions. The membrane should be installed across the roof deck and cut and sealed around the hole for the downpipe. A square timber kerb/hard edge should then be placed centrally around the outlet hole. The internal dimensions of the timber kerb should allow the 600 x 600mm Icopal Insulation Box to fit snugly inside. The height of the timber kerb should match that of the surrounding insulation layer. Flashing pieces of the vapour control layer should be installed dressing vertically up the timber kerb and sealed to the main VCL membrane. CONNECTION OF THE PIPE SPIGOT TO THE OUTLET BODY Apply a low modulus, high performance silicone to the threaded area of the pipe spigot and spread well into the threaded grooves. Insert the male threaded end into the female thread within the outlet body. Ensure correct alignment of the thread, taking care not to cross thread. Hand tighten as far as possible, and then wipe off any excess silicone both internally and externally. Apply Low Modulus silicone sealant to threaded area of pipe spigot. Ensure silicone is spread well into the threaded grooves. Screw pipe spigot into the outlet body and hand tighten. Wipe away excess silicone. 4

USE IN REFURBISHMENT APPLICATIONS When refurbishing a flat roof with existing 100mm outlets, contractors should use the Icopal SP1 82mm Roof Outlet body with threaded

6 USE IN REFURBISHMENT APPLICATIONS When refurbishing a flat roof with existing 100mm outlets, contractors should use the Icopal SP1 82mm Roof Outlet body with threaded spigot and fit the rubber finned SP1 Refurbishment Adaptor Ring to the end as shown in the photograph. Lubricate the inside of the existing roof outlet using silicone lubricant, then push the Icopal SP1 82mm Outlet with pipe spigot and finned SP1 Refurbishment Adaptor Ring into the existing roof outlet to form a water tight seal. 7 INSTALLATION MONARPLAN PVC or SUREPLAN FPO SINGLE PLY MEMBRANES Following installation of the Icopal SP1 Outlet and Insulation Box proceed as follows: Note: PVC membranes, such as Monarplan, are not compatible with EPS insulation. A separation layer, such as the Icopal SLP300, must be installed beneath the membrane to protect the PVC waterproofing membrane and prevent plasticiser migration. In adhered single ply membrane situations, the adhesive should not be applied to the EPS insulation box. Apply only to the surrounding compatible insulation, and in the case of PVC membranes, apply the SLP300 separation fleece locally over the insulation box extending out for a minimum 50mm. Roll the single ply membrane out over the Icopal SP1 Outlet and Insulation Box. Using your fingers, locate the lip of the outlet body below the single ply membrane. Use the Clamping Ring of the outlet (in an upside down position) as a template, and line up the circumference. Using a pencil, mark the inside edge of the flange of the outlet body. 6

Important: Ensure that the drill does not bite into the bolt holes and remove any of the aluminium casting. 7

Position the Outlet Leaf Grate (either dome or flat) to the Clamping Ring, secure with the fixings and using a Hex key, tighten appropriately. The outlet detail is now complete. 8

13 INSTALLATION OF RAISED SQUARE GRATE The SP1 Raised Square Grate can be used in applications with paving, terraces/balconies or green roofs. When installing an Icopal SP1 Outlet within one of the aforementioned roof configurations, use the SP1 Terrace Grate Kit. This raises the height of the grate and allows it to be flush with the finished roof level. The SP1 Extension Ring is 110mm high, and additional extension rings can be stacked one on top of another to raise the height of the square grate to match the overall system depth. Note: For heights above 3 Extension Rings, please contact Icopal Limited for guidance. Conversely, the SP1 Extension Rings and Threaded Rods may be cut down to provide a shallower depth, should that be required. SP1 Square Grate with a single SP1 Extension Ring. Following the installation of the Icopal SP1 Outlet: Place the SP1 Extension Ring inside

14 Following the installation of the Icopal SP1 Outlet: Place the SP1 Extension Ring inside the body of the roof outlet and position it so that the larger unthreaded holes line up with two the M6 threaded lugs projecting from the blue clamping flange. Insert M6 threaded rods. Add additional Extension rings if required, then secure with nuts and washers, as shown. Cut the M6 threaded rods to the required height. Place the SP1 Square Grate on top of the SP1 Extension Ring and insert the 2 No. M8 bolts and washers through the recessed holes as shown. Before fully tightening the bolts, rotate the grate to align to the correct orientation of the paving grid if required. Fully tighten to complete the installation. 13
