1 Installation Guide for Custom Console Mods Xbox 360 (LED kit) This mod kit works for all versions of the Xbox 360 wireless controllers. This guide is designed to aid you in installing the LED kit from Custom Console Mods you purchased. I try to cover all parts and questions that you may have in this guide. If you have never soldered before, please learn how to first before attempting this installation. You will be working with small parts in this install which after learning proper soldering techniques, will allow for a much smoother and successful installation. Soldering is not hard to do, but takes time to master Warning: Proceed with this installation at your own risk. Any warranty will be void on the controller once you open it. I will not be held responsible for any damage you cause to your controller or any equipment. What is included in this kit: 4 LED s (optional to install) Note: The blue LED s require higher voltage so they may only be bright when using batteries vs. the rechargeable battery pack. The picture shown above with blue LED s is from a controller with battery pack so it does differ. You get more volts from batteries vs. rechargeable batteries. Sometimes this depends on the condition and age of the battery pack. The Red LED s should work fine with the battery pack as they need about the same volts as the green LED s. Also, there have been reports that the blue LED s may not always work with the newer CG type 360 controllers due to the voltage requirements on the CG type controllers. Refer back to the rapid fire install guide to determine the type of controller that you have. Tools you will need: Soldering iron Solder Torx T8 security screwdriver (a small flat head screwdriver will also work) Note: Most of these tools can be purchased at radio shack or you may already have these items in your home.

2 Step 1 - (take apart the controller) Take the controller apart. There are 7 screws to take off. Three on each side of the controller and one hidden one behind the battery pack. There is a small label that the screw is behind. You should use a Torx 8 security screwdriver here, but you can get away with just using a small flat head screwdriver. Just put it to the side of the small pin in the middle. You can also snap the pin in the middle and it will be easier to unscrew. Note: Face the top of the controller down (buttons facing down when opening the controller) or the pieces will fall out. No problem if they do, they just need to be put back. You may need to pry the back off a little as it is a tight fit. 7 Screws

3 Step 2 - (remove stock LED s) There are four stock LED s. They are shown below in the picture. Now this part can be very tricky, especially if you are new to soldering. I will explain to you the best way to remove these LED s however I must stress to proceed at your own risk as I will not be responsible for any damage you cause to your controller. I have found that the best way to remove the stock LED s is to first apply additional solder to both ends of the LED. Be careful when doing this as you do not want to damage any of the circuit traces. Touch one end of the LED and apply some solder to it. There is a small pad underneath these LED s that they are soldered too. What we are trying to do is apply more solder to make contact with the pad underneath which will allow us to heat the pad up more easily. I know this may sound confusing, but trust me. This is the easiest way. Even people that have experience with soldering will have trouble with this. Especially the first go at it. After you applied solder to one end, repeat this for the other. You can also apply a little solder to the side, but be very careful doing so. After you have applied additional solder to the LED, now you can take the LED off. What you want to do is heat up both end of the LED, or the pads underneath. This will allow you to move the LED off from the pad. Use the solder iron to keep heating both sides and lightly push the LED off. What you do not want to do is overheat the pads and break them off. If you do, well like I said; proceed at your own risk. I have done this and it is very difficult, if at all possible, to correct it. Repeat this for all four LED s! Check out my video on how I do this!

4 Step 3 - (Solder new LED s) Carefully take the LED s out of the package. After removing the old LED s you now know how extremely small they are. They can get lost very easily. If you do end up needing more LED s, I sell these separately as well. Now with LED s, you have to be concerned with polarity. If you do not know what this is, don t worry. Polarity basically just means that one side is positive and one side is negative. You must have the LED installed properly in order for the LED to work. Now I have seen some differences with controllers as well as the actually LED s. Usually the LED s have a marking on the back and wherever the line is pointing is the negative side. What we will do is a more unorthodox way of doing it, but it will work. Place the new LED on the pads. Turn on the controller (using the grey rubber pad to make the connection) and then press down on the LED. If it lights up, you got the polarity right. If not, turn it around and try again. Once you get the polarity right, use your soldering iron to heat up the pads underneath while holding the LED down. Use tweezers if needed. Apply a little solder to both ends. Repeat this with all four LED! You may want to test it out each time you solder because if your solder joints are not strong, the LED s may not light up or fall off. Just retry.
