CD PACKAGING: Rage Against the Machine book campaign environment identity information packaging poster PROBLEM: Music can have a very different feel from one musician, one genre and one band to the next. The package that music comes in (in this case a single CD) should embody the sound, and character of the musician and music itself. The project was to re-design the CD packaging and booklet for any music group, soundtrack or compilation. I chose Rage Against the Machine. SOLUTION: Juxtapose high-contrast imagery with a flowing eroded type to support the heavy feel of the music and the smooth lyrical delivery of the vocals. Scans of guitar strings support the texture and metallic sound of the music. product

ADVENTURES WITHOUT LIMITS book campaign environment identity information packaging poster PROBLEM: Adventures Without Limits (AWL) is a non-profit organization that plans outdoor trips (mainly hiking and kayaking) for anyone who wants to participate for a small fee. They pride themselves on empowering people through the outdoors and giving people new experiences. They needed a new identity system including stationary and other various collateral. SOLUTION: Elements from a sextant (used for navigation on water) and a compass (navigation on land) create a dynamic, energetic, and edgy mark that relates to the idea of adventure. The stationary system uses abstract elements from navigational devices. product

BB&N ANNUAL REPORT book campaign environment identity information packaging PROBLEM: Create an annual report for Buckingham Browne and Nichols school in Massachusetts centered around the theme of their campaign: Opening Minds SOLUTION: Full page images with minimal text show personal stories of students and alumni who have impacted the school without bogging the reader down with page after page of text. The donor list is kept simple and clean so donors can easily find their name and names of friends. poster product

TYPOGRAPHIC POSTER book campaign environment identity information packaging poster product PROBLEM: Using an intuitive process, create a poster centered on a given quote of a graphic designer. Design a 3 x2 poster that is primarily typographically based to communicate the essence of the quote. I have always tried to learn from my mistakes by looking at things wrong and having those things turn out to be the right way to do things. When you misperceive something, very often you are getting an idea that I believe is a very important part of invention itself. Tibor Kalman SOLUTION: The quote by Tibor Kalman questions the idea of what is truly right and what is truly wrong. It subtly creates a conflict and uncertainty between the two that is manifested in the literal collision between right and wrong in the poster.

MEDIOR book campaign environment identity information PROBLEM: Medior is a pharmaceutical company specializing in fibrotic reconstruction, a medical technology that repairs scar tissue, mainly in organs to prevent further complications from medical conditions. SOLUTION: An abstract mark derived from architecture that hints at new structure as well as creating a convergent, healing motion. packaging poster product

WARREN LEHRER LECTURE POSTER book campaign environment identity information packaging PROBLEM: Design a promotional piece for OSU visiting artist, Warren Lehrer. SOLUTION: Based on many samples of Lehrer s work, we chose to use collage as the main vehicle for communication to reflect the process he uses in much of his work. The final series of 3 posters builds, and collages itself to create the final composition showing the process of the poster creation. A series of promotional T-shirts were also made with a similar visual vocabulary to the posters. poster product

208 DESIGN IDENTITY book campaign environment identity information packaging poster PROBLEM: Our group was tasked with creating a new identity for the 208 Collaborative Design Studio at Oregon State University. This included creating a naming standard for the studio as well as other basic collateral. SOLUTION: Because the designers in the studio change annually we created a visual system that could be easily changed to fit the group of designers for a given year. Each member of the studio was given a square to draw the numerals 208 any way they wanted. The resulting visual system is paired with the chosen name, 208 collaborative design to create the final mark. Each year the new designers in the studio will begin by drawing a new set of 10 representations of 208. product

SENIOR THESIS book environment identity information packaging poster campaign PROBLEM: Take an existing fringe sport/subculture and create a core brand for it that defines the people and culture of the sport. SOLUTION: The sport I chose was BASE jumping due to its current similarity to snowboarding before it became mainstream. Then working collaboratively with a fellow designer we named a hypothetical BASE jumping company, created an identity, product packaging, advertising and a point of sale installation for it. The brand utilizes allusions to covert military action and stealth to speak to the more die hard side of BASE jumpers. product
