4 4 THE ANZAC SPIRIT THE BATTLES OF THE WESTERN FRONT First issued in 2014, The Perth Mint has now released the final issue in the ANZAC Spirit Centenary five year 50 cent coin series. The 2018 three-coin 1/2oz 99.9% pure silver collection features three historic First World War Designs each with edge lettering around the rim with the words, "PRIDE. RESPECT. GRATITUDE." 11 11 QEII CORONATION 65 TH ANNIVERSARY To celebrate the 65th anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's Coronation on 2nd June 1953, The Perth Mint has struck a 1oz 99.99% pure silver $1 and 1/4oz 99.99% gold $25 coin. Her Majesty succeeded to the throne on 6th February 1952 after the death of her father, King George VI. As a result of the appropriate mourning period and the time needed to prepare for the elaborate ceremony, it was more than a year before her coronation took place. The reverse of the coins depict St Edward s Crown atop a stylised shield. These symbols of the British monarchy are surrounded by representations of the floral emblem of Australia, the golden wattle, as well as the official flower of each Australian state and territory. 17 17 KEELING COCOS ISLANDS SET OF 10 Between 1831 and 1857, the Cocos Islands constituted a feudal fiefdom ruled by John Clunies-Ross. In 1857, the islands became a British Protectorate. They were officially administered from Ceylon after 1878, then from the Straits Settlements after 1886 and Singapore after In reality, from 1886, Queen Victoria had relinquished control and real authority was in the hands of the Clunies-Ross family, who proclaimed their islands as a kingdom, and themselves as monarchs. This title was not recognized by Britain or Australia. The population of the islands settled at around 500, mostly Malays employed on the Clunies-Ross copra plantation. In 1977, Clunies-Ross V introduced the first metal currency to the Cocos- Keeling Islands with $100,000 worth of coins minted to his orders in Switzerland. 20 20 AUSTRALIA 1932 PROOF/SPECIMEN HALFPENNY One of only three examples known, this exceedingly rare, King George V Australian 1932 Proof/Specimen Halfpenny was struck by the Melbourne Mint during the great depression. The term 'proof' refers to a coin's method of manufacture, not its state of preservation. Australian Proof coins are struck from polished or specially prepared dies and have near brilliant surfaces with perfect detail. It is well known that the Melbourne Mint struck six Australian 1930 proof pennies, and one of them sold a few years ago for over one million dollars! To compare against Australia's most sought after and most expensive pre-decimal proof, this coin is favourably priced. Actual x200% The 1932 proof halfpenny was struck in very small numbers - with around 3 known, compared to the 2.5 million standard circulation issues for that year.
