4 AUSTRALIA 1943 I PROOF PENNY In 1964, coin collectors were informed that Australian 1943 proof pennies and halfpennies with the "I" mintmark for India were being sold by the Bombay Mint. Sales were restricted to one set per person. Details of the restrikes were reported in the press towards the end of March, Officials in Canberra took appropriate action and, at the request of the Australian Government, the Master of the Bombay Mint, Mr V J Joshi advised that production of the restrikes had ceased. He reported that only a small number of sets had been struck. The Bombay proof penny as offered here is toned and was struck in very small numbers - with around 20 known, compared to the standard circulation issues of 1943 that were struck in their millions. 6 2016 SILVER ANTIQUED 'ROO The first Australian 2016 $2 Antique finish kangaroo, has been released as part of a new series struck by The Perth Mint. An extremely limited mintage of 3000 will be issued in high relief, from 2oz of 99.9% pure silver with a rimless edge. Her creation of a fantasy world within the Australian bush, using creatures and images that were well recognised and found right across the country, has fascinated generations of Australians for decades. 13 13 ANZAC 2015 $1 COUNTERSTAMP The Royal Australian Mint travelled with a mobile press around New South Wales on the first leg of "The Changeover Tour" last year, named especially for this Golden Anniversary Year of Australian Decimal Currency. For only one day the people of Dubbo, Tamworth, Newcastle and Wollongong each had the opportunity to purchase a 2015 Counterstamped Map of Australia 100 Years of ANZAC - The Spirit Lives al/bronze uncirculated one dollar coin. With some customers waiting over one hour in long queues at the above venues, it is no wonder an extremely limited number of these 2015 counterstamps have ever been struck. Those lucky enough to get some, were not surprised when they jumped up to $ on ebay. So please get your orders in early to avoid disappointment. 14 14 ENGLISH BROCKAGES A coin exhibiting an error caused by the failure of the coin press to release the previous coin. When a new planchet (blank) is inserted, during the next strike the design from the previous, unejected coin is imprinted, sunken in reverse, on the second coin. Brokage coins appear to have the same design on both sides with one side showing a reverse or mirror strike which, because the previous coin acts as the die, does not usually have the same quality of detail. 20 50 TH ANNIVERSARY OF AUSTRALIA'S DECIMAL CURRENCY On the 14th February 1966, the changeover to decimal currency transformed the nation. As a tribute to Australia's coinage history, each coin features designs from today and from the Australian pre-decimal era.
