The London type has 177 denticles around the rim and the Indian type has 178 denticles. This is easily distinguished by the final leg of 'N' in "OMN" points between the denticles for the London die and to the denticles for the Indian die. 3 3 AUSTRALIA (1855) PATTERN SHILLING William Joseph Taylor (b.1802 d.1885) was a British entrepreneur active in the numismatic manufacturing industry in London in the late 19th century. Perhaps his largest single project was the Kangaroo Office at Port Phillip, Victoria between 1853 and 1857, a venture intended to take advantage of the explosive economic growth in Australia following the discovery of gold in The pattern tokens struck by Taylor for this venture are among the most keenly sought of all Australian numismatic items. They include 2oz, 1oz, 1/2oz and 1/4oz patterns struck in gold, shilling and sixpence struck in gold, silver, copper and a variety of other metals. x250% The undated Kangaroo Office Port Phillip, Victorian Pattern silver, plain edge, Shilling we have on offer was engraved and designed by W.J.Taylor c.1855 featuring a coroneted bust of Queen Victoria facing left and the reverse shows a large "1" in the centre with one shilling at the top. The obverse and reverse has a broad, raised, engine-turned rim which encompasses the incused legends. Some marks and spotting are noticeable in the fields, otherwise lightly toned and brilliant, nearly FDC, slabbed in NGC PF62 Cameo holder. Rarity 8. Three of the six pieces known to exist are tucked away in the National Gallery of Victoria Museum and the State Library of New South Wales - bequeathed from the Sir William Dixon Collection. 4 PROCLAMATION COINS Governor Phillip Gidley King issued a Proclamation at Government House, Sydney on 19th November 1800, in a bid to ensure that the newly arrived coins in the colony were not immediately traded back out. The King's Proclamation had the effect of inflating coin values for sub and multiple denominations of each series for trade within the colony which can been seen in the table of specie at right. 6 AUSTRALIA REMEMBERS x125% On the 10th October 1915, 26 young men left their hometown of Gilgandra - near Dubbo NSW, in a recruiting march effort to join the Australian Imperial Force (AIF).
