3 Thank you for purchasing Bible ABC Pocket Games from A Journey Through Learning. We hope that you and your child have a great time using these pocket folders for your learning time. There is a pocket for each letter of the alphabet. Cut out, assemble and glue the pockets into the folders. Use the key to glue the pockets in the correct place. As you go, you will notice storage pockets that are also to be cut, assembled and glued at this time too. The letter on top of each pocket is done in a special font that makes the letter traceable. Let your child do the tracings at any time. Now is the time to get your picture cards ready. There are two colorful, exciting picture cards for each letter of the alphabet. Cut these out. Have your child say the picture that is on the card aloud. Then help your child determine its beginning sound. Have your child place the card in the pocket that has the correct letter for the beginning sound. For instance-if the picture begins with the B sound, then the picture card is placed in the B pocket and so forth. We have provided convenient storage pockets to keep your cards in so they will not get lost or misplaced! Put the picture cards that start with the letters A-G in the pocket that is labeled Picture Cards Storage Pocket A-G. Continue like this for the rest of your cards. We have also included colorful, cute cards with both the upper and lower case letters of the alphabet. These cards are to be used to teach matching upper and lower case letters. They can also be used to put the alphabet letters in the correct order across the living room floor! We have also provided a storage pocket for the upper case letters and the lower case letters so that they, too, will not get lost or misplaced.. 4 How to fold and connect the folders for your lapbook. 1. Gather the number of folders required for your particular lapbook. 4. Fold the left hand-side over just to the crease but not overlapping it. Your folder now has two flaps. We like to run a ruler down each fold to make the fold neater and flatter. Do steps 3 and 4 to the remaining folders. 2. Open up each folder and flatten it out. 5. Take two of the folders and apply a generous amount of glue to their flaps. We recommend using Zip Dry Paper Glue. 3. Take the right side and fold it all the way over until the tab is just before the middle crease in the folder. Do not overlap this crease with the tab. 6. Bring the flaps together and press so they stick together. 7. Do steps 5 and 6 to your remaining folders (if any). 8. The patterns for all the mini-booklets are provided. Just cut out, construct, and glue them into your lapbook. Refer to the color-coded placement page or the actual mini-booklet page for placement of each mini-booklet.

7 Additional Fun Games and Crafts to Help Teach Letters and Their Sounds ***Let your child use play-do to create the ABC letters. ***Place flour or sand on a tray. Let your child draw the alphabet letters. ***Have fun with your child fixing pudding. Eat some and then let your child use the pudding like finger paint to draw their letters. ***Place all of the picture cards or word cards in a bag. Shake the bag and let your child pull out a card. See how fast they can find the correct pocket that it goes in. ***Place all of the letter cards in a pie plate. Place the pie plate at one end of the room. Call out a letter. Have your child run down to the pie plate and see if he can find the letter and then run back to you. ***Cut out magazine pictures and place them in the correct pocket according to beginning sound. As your child becomes more proficient, you can do this by ending sound.

For instance, the picture of the nest could also be called a bird nest. To avoid confusion, we have included a list of the pictures names and the letter they correspond with. 41 Say the picture on the card. Think about the sound it begins with. Put the card in the correct letter pocket. When not in use, keep them in the correct storage pocket as explained in the instructions at the beginning of the book.
