3 2 January years of the Danish flag The Danish flag has flown over Denmark during war and peace, joy and sorrow, and has gradually become a unifying symbol of the country. The five stamps marking the 800 th anniversary of the Dannebrog depict ways in which we encounter the flag in our daily lives. Where official matters are concerned, we can see the flag on Her Danish Majesty s Yacht Dannebrog and on Copenhagen s highest tower, Christiansborg. POSTNORD 2019 Life of the Vikings The special magic and fascination of the Viking era is brought to life again every time a new find is uncovered in the Danish soil. Apart from providing us with new archaeological knowledge of how people lived in the past, a find can also occasionally fill a crucial historical gap. With their powerful light, often located on high ground, they prevented ships from running aground while being navigation aids for shipping. Following the introduction of modern navigation systems, most lighthouses were gradually decommissioned, but the attractive buildings still stand as landmarks in the Danish landscape and are often major tourist attractions.» Photos: Ritzau Scanpix/Gert S.
