2 Department News/Events Graduate Research Conference The Graduate Research Conference (GRC), which is hosted annually by the Graduate Student Association of the University of Maryland, Baltimore, was held on Friday, March 15th, 2019, at the SMC Campus Center. The GRC provides students and postdoctoral fellows with the opportunity to present their research to the campus community. Representing PTRS were PhD Students: Raziyeh Baghi, Brian Johnson, and Kelly Rock. Pictured below is Raziyeh Baghi, PhD Candidate, with her poster presentation entitled, "Ultrasonic measurement of gastrocnemius biomechanical properties 2

3 during stepping on an elliptical trainer: A case study". Authors: R. Baghi, G. Oppizzi, K. Koh, L-C Lo, and L-Q Zhang. Pictured below are Kelly Rock, PhD Candidate (right), and Dr. Victoria Marchese (left). Kelly presented, "Exploring Postural Control During Walking and Running in Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia Childhood Cancer Survivors (ALL CCS)". Authors: K. Rock, R. Creath, and V. Marchese. Below are Brian Johnson, PhD Candidate (right), and Dr. Mary Rodgers (left). Brian presented a poster entitled "Acoustic stimulation during a daytime nap to enhance sensorimotor skill performance in older adults with and without a history of stroke". Authors: B. Learn More Rock the Smokeout Students Promoting Awareness presents the 11th Annual Rock the Smokeout on April 5 at Pickles Pub. This USGA-sponsored fundraising event is a Battle of the Bands featuring bands from different schools within UMB. The event starts at 7 p.m. and costs $5 for UMB students and $7 for non-umb students. Come and join us in raising money for CEASE Baltimore while enjoying live music, food, raffles, and more. Tickets and shirts will be sold at the door on the night of the event.
