Dr. Jos Z. Gal 2
First German Founder Astronaut sxc Get ready for take-off welcome to the biggest adventure of my life: my flight to the stars. A journey of thousand miles begins with a single step. Being the first German Founder Astronaut of the Space Expedition Corporation (SXC), I will fly into space in 2014 as an astronaut and co-pilot of XCOR s Lynx Space Ship. But my journey into space has already begun because intensive preparations have to be made beforehand. With only 500 people having flown into space so far, I am proud to be a pioneer and become part of earth s history. As a doctor, I appreciate the importance of collecting scientific data to ensure that space travel will open up new possibilities for mankind such as education, growth and sustainability, as well as making travelling more economical. 3
The sky is no longer the limit. Richard M. Nixon 4
SXC & the Lynx The SXC project (Space Expedition Corporation) is the most impressive existing adventure in space travel. The team is made up of experienced space experts. SXC is one of only a few organizations offering private trips into space which, in future, should be accessible for everyone. XCOR s Lynx is equipped with a unique and independent take-off and landing system, where the rocket engines can be switched on or off as required. The space ship has room for a pilot and a co-pilot astronaut. At a flight speed of MACH3 (3 times the speed of sound) it can reach an altitude of 100 km - scientifically acknowledged as the edge of space - within just a few minutes. The flight in a Lynx space probe is safe, fast and extremely economical because it uses standard bio jet fuel. Take-off and landing sites are the space ports Curacao (Caribbean) and Mojave (California). 5
Training Missions As part of the preparation program participants have to successfully complete several training sessions to be awarded a certificate and a badge for their training overall. This program includes training in the Desdemona flight simulator at 3G with 6 degrees of freedom, as well as flights in the L-39 Albatross fighter jet at 6 G. Participants have to execute different tasks during parabolic flights on the Zero-G-Airbus which helps them to gain experience with weightlessness. The prospective astronauts are put in an altitude chamber which simulates the differences in pressure and exerts enormous pressure on the human body. A G-centrifuge is used to prepare for the high G-forces. Theoretical lessons in navigation, meteorology, aeronautics etc. are also part of the training. After all, you are a co-pilot on a space ship with your own tasks on board and not simply a passenger. 6
7
Fitness In addition to the specific SXC training missions, continuous physical exercise sessions are mandatory. In this way the body s endurance and strength are trained and it learns to cope with altitude and the differences in pressure. This includes among others diving, parachuting, climbing, bungee jumping and a tailored fitness program, as well as a balanced diet, in order to be optimally prepared for the space trip. The training missions take place in the Netherlands, France, the USA, New Zealand, Australia, Sweden to name just a few - these are all countries that offer optimum training conditions. Medical Checks Medical monitoring by the medical specialists accompanying the program is also part of the preparation. This analysis focuses on the areas eyesight, flexibility, balance and vital functions. 8

Press & Media Die Welt Dentist wants to be first German space tourist. Tourist flights into space about to become reality.... Spiegel Towards the sun: In Berlin a dentist presents his travel plans - first German space tourist.... n24 If everything goes to plan, a German dentist will become the first German space tourist in n-tv Mr Gal wants to fly into space no sign of fear - alone on board with the pilot.... Die Zeit Financial Times Wirtschaftswoche news.de Gal is fit for space... Dr Jos Gal, dentist of a 5-star practice, is the first German to have joined the astronaut founder program... Dr Gal: I am not afraid. If we were taking off tomorrow I would also welcome it. When he is taken into space by the rocket powered space ship Lynx in 2014 as planned, he will be considered an astronaut... It is therefore not surprising that several private companies want to offer private space trips as adventure tourism. They are offering, so to say, the ultimate adventure that a person in the 21 century can possibly experience.... Welt der Wunder Space tourism Welt der Wunder accompanied me in 2012 during my astronaut training and reported in a detailed 45-minute documentary about my trip into space. 10

Representation As first German Founder Astronaut of the Space Expedition Corporation I have presented my space mission at numerous society events. These include famous media and charity events, as well as well-known sports events. Meeting famous and popular celebrities is just as important to me as the exchange with cooperation partners and interested reporters. I would like to inspire them with the fascination of my space trip. The immanent experience of leaving earth is not only a wonderful event which only few people so far have experienced, but it will also be a cherished memory! On this flight I will be a traveller, not a tourist a treasured experience which will be impressive and moving in equal measures. For those who have experienced it, seeing earth from space is hard to describe in words. 12
