2 A Note From The Seller: I have found that integrating whenever and wherever possible is a great way to make sure that I am addressing all of the Common Core Standards and giving my students enough practice to reach mastery in each skill. Since close reading is my new favorite thing, I have decided to create differentiated close reading passages based on different subjects that children would deem interesting, or topics that I need to cover anyway. Many systems and states do close reading differently, so I have left the specifics for marking up the passage out. Instead of having the levels on the passages where students can see the numbers, I have decided to put a shape to designate which level it is in the top right-hand corner. They are also included in the product in this order. A circle designates low. Lexile: 660 GRL: P A triangle designates mid. Lexile: 820 GRL: T A square designates high. Lexile: 1040 GRL: Z *approximations Acknowledgements & Terms of Use: Thank you so much for purchasing this product. Lindbergh s journey gained a lot of international attention and sparked the interest of flying for many people. Lindbergh was born in 1902, in Detroit, Michigan. His father was a lawyer and his mother was a teacher. The family spent majority of their time in Little Falls, Minnesota, where Lindbergh s father also served as a Congressman. Lindbergh attended school in Little Falls and graduated high school in He enrolled into college to study engineering, but dropped out after two years to pursue flight training. In 1922, he took flight classes at Nebraska s Aircraft Corporation s flying school. He received formal flying instruction and had the opportunity to fly in a plane for the first time ever as a passenger. Lindbergh was so fascinated by flying that he decided to quit school and brainstorm ways to earn money to fly again. Soon after leaving flight school, found a job as an airplane mechanic. Eventually, he was able to fly for the first time solo in May of 1923 in Americus, Georgia. He flew in a World War l aircraft, referred to as Jenny, that he bought for $500. Even though he didn t have a license and this was his first time as a pilot,, Lindbergh had enough confidence and knowledge to fly successfully that day. In 1924, he joined the United States Army and trained as an Army Service Reserve pilot. Lindbergh gained a lot of experience while training in the Army and even had practice parachuting from an airplane in case of an emergency. In 1927, bought a single-engine aircraft, known as the Spirit of St. Louis. It was this plane that Lindbergh famously flew from New York to Paris, crossing the Atlantic Ocean, all by himself.
