1 Q/ Controllers Q/ CONTROLLERS Description Features The Q/ controllers are of medium capacity designed for the control of all types of building plant. They can provide a minimum of digital inputs, and analogue voltage outputs. A further 0 /O points can be made available by using up to 0 S cards, each providing inputs or outputs of the same type ( input only, input or output). The Q has thermistor inputs pre-fitted via S cards. S cards can provide analogue current, analogue voltage, thermistor, or digital inputs, or analogue voltage outputs giving the Q/ sufficient capability for more complex strategies. t can operate either as a stand alone device or as part of a Building Management System. f required a Network Display Panel can be mounted on the front cover, or externally, using a node controller fitted into the Q/. A standard Display Panel can also be mounted on the front cover, or externally. The Q/ also has the facility to connect any Trend supervisor or Engineering Tool to the network without a separate node controller. Physical 30 Vac Power connector second cycle time. 2 Q/ PHYSCAL (Continued) Cable Management System mm 0 mm 3 mm 0mm holes for cable entry/exit (suitable for standard M0 (copex type) conduit glands) FUNCTONALTY The Q/ Controller s functionality can be divided into two sections, the strategy, and the hardware. STRATEGY The strategy processes inputs according to a set of instructions and then outputs signals which can be used to control plant. Configuration: The Q/ uses the standard Q configuration mode which enables configuration via the network, or by direct connection. Alternatively SET (System Engineering Tool) can be used to create an.qf strategy data file which can then be downloaded to the controller. SET can also be used to upload, and download.qf files for backup purposes. Modules: The strategy consists of a number of individual functional blocks known as configuration modules. These blocks can be linked in various combinations to enable plant to be controlled appropriate to the building s requirements. The table lists the different types of configuration modules and the number of each type available with Q/. Module Type Number Module Type Number Sensor Critical Alarm Sensor type Alarm History 0 Loop 3 C Comms Function 0 Digital nputs Logic 0 Fast Sequence Driver 3 Zone Knob 30 Schedule 3 Switch 0 Calendar 0 Sensor log 3 User Password Sequence step 00 Sequence time s Analogue Nodes Digital Nodes 0 Display 00 Directory 0 Page 0 Group 0 Route 0 Destination 7 New Alarm Log 00 Full details of the modules are given in the Q Configuration Manual and Addendum. The Q/ contains the normal Q features as described in Q Configuration Manual Addendum: Engineers Journal (J), /O Summary (i/o), Loader ssue (R(c), c lower case), Serial Number (R(s), s lower case), Supply Frequency Option, Enhanced Logging, Module position, and Strategy Cleardown. /O Channel reference: The Q/ has very flexible /O which can be configured in a number of ways. The configuration input modules (sensors and digital inputs) and the output modules (drivers) are related to the external channels as shown in the table below. The external channel reference for these modules is displayed in configuration mode. Module type Module reference External channel Sensor-analogue input S to S0 3 to 3 Sensor-digital input S t o S 3 ( n o t normally used*) to 3 Digital input to 3 to 3 Driver Driver channel to driver channel 0 0 to The table below specifies the possible modes for each channel. Module nput Modes S to S0 analogue input, digital input*, internal analogue, internal digital S to S3 digital input*, internal analogue, internal digital S33 to S internal analogue, internal digital to 3 digital input 33 to internal digital Note that as sensors and digital inputs are supported separately on the display panel, and have separate labels, use of sensor modules in digital input mode is not normally required. FRMWARE Communications: When operating as part of a Building Management System, the Q/ will be connected to other devices via the Trend Network. This means that information within the Q/ can be accessed using one of the Trend supervisor programs, or passed to other Trend Q controllers using inter-controller communications, enabling the sharing of information across the whole system. When connected to the network the controller can use up to 3 different addresses. One address is for the controller itself, the second and third are optional, and are for the Network Display Panel, and locally connected supervisor. This means that both the Network Display Panel and supervisor have their own network addresses when connected to the network via the controller. The controller s address is set by a switch on the module, and the addresses for the network display panel, and supervisor are software selectable. Q/ Controllers TA0303 ssue /D /0/03

The controller can be fitted with an optional cable management system. Cable management system: The cable management system comprises of a metal box with 7 off 0 mm metal knockouts ( rear, bottom, each side). The knockouts can be removed to provide cable entry/exit holes suitable for grommets, or standard M0 (copex type) conduit glands. t fits immediately underneath the controller, or the relay extension system (if fitted) using a simple hooking method preventing accidental contact with the terminals. The diagram below illustrates how a cable management system can be fitted to an Q/ 3 " Q/ with Cable Management System Network: The network terminals facilitate connection of or wire cables. The address and baud rate (9k, 9k, or k) are selected by switches. The standard Trend node features are included (TX RX, and network OK indicators, bypass relay, and network alarm generation). There is also the facility for connection of a Network Display Panel, and/or supervisor to the network via the controller without the need for additional node controllers. A location is also provided for mounting an extra node controller, e.g. TMN, should this be required. Address/Baud rate switch: The address on the Lan is set by poles to 7 in range, to 9, to 9 and must be unique on the Lan. The baud rate is set by poles to 0 in the range k, 9k, 9k and must match the other nodes on the Lan. The address/baud rate switch may also be used to perform a strategy cleardown; this is done by setting all the address/baud rate poles to zero before power up (see nstallation nstructions, TG033 sheet and Q Configuration Manual Addendum). For this reason the address should normally be set non-zero. ndicators: LED indicators for receive and transmit network current flow (RX, TX) and network OK ( ), also for power ( ), all /O channels ( ), and watchdog ( ). See specification section for details. Connectors: Two part connectors are used throughout to facilitate wiring. The 30 Vac power supply uses a standard EC connector. An earthing bar is provided for screen termination. Power: 30 Vac 0/0 Hz, Vac 0/0 Hz or Vdc. V supply must be isolated. Fusing: The controller has no replaceable fuses; protection is provided by means of a self resetting thermally protected transformer. The Vac or dc versions have a solid state multifuse. Note that a switch of circuit breaker must be included in the supply to the unit and in close proximity to it, and must be clearly marked as the disconnecting device for the unit. The /O modules are also individually protected against short circuits. Battery Backup: Details about the strategy configuration, time and date, and logged data are stored in RAM. A plug-in lithium cell provides power to maintain the data in the event of power failure, or the controller being switched off. S Cards: S Cards enable the Q configuration of the controller to be set up according to user requirements. Each card provides input/output channels of the same type and is supplied complete with terminals. The range of S Cards provides analogue current, analogue voltage, thermistor, and digital inputs, or analogue voltage outputs. The Q/ has space for 0 S Cards providing up to 0 additional /O channels ( input only, input or output). The Q has thermistor inputs pre-fitted via S cards. Auxiliary Supplies: The Q/ has two types of auxiliary supply which share 000 ma. Both are thermally protected and can supply Vdc at a maximum of 00 ma. The first is a single connector for relay modules, sensors external NDP, external DP etc. The second consists of 0 connectors for relay modules etc. connected to channels to 0. The 000 ma will normally be available, but if the Q/ has an integral NDP or an integral node controller fitted, only 900 ma would be available to be shared between the two supplies. Displays: The Q/ can be fitted with 3 different types of display, a -line Display Panel, a Network Display Panel, and a PC. The Q/ has ports, the local supervisor port on the front panel (RJ) and the NDP port under the cover on the main board. These correspond to the two extra CNC addresses provided by the Q/; the local supervisor port address, and the NDP port address. NDP V supply (NDP PWR) NDP Port (NDP) local supervisor port (RJ) -line Display Panel: The controller may be purchased with a DP option fitted in the cover or there is a retrofit kit (KT/DP) to add an integral DP. Alternatively an external DP (i.e. HDP, FPK, ENCLS/FP) may be connected by fitting the KT/xx/RDS option which provides a way D type female connector on the upper face of the unit. f a display panel is mounted in the front cover, it will not be possible to connect an external -line display or mount an internal Network Display Panel. The DP provides access to parameters within the controller. Fitting an external DP will reduce available Vdc auxiliary current by 30 ma (see Auxiliary Supply section). "! $! & ", Q/ HARDWARE (continued) PC: A computer running a Trend Supervisor or Engineering Tool can be connected to the Trend network via the controller s supervisor port without the need for an additional node controller although it does have its own network address. When connected in this way the supervisor will have access to all devices on the network, and will function as if it were connected via its own node controller. A wall mounting display, room display (RD), or smart display unit (SDU) may be connected to the local supervisor port. Both displays monitor and adjust parameters in the local Q/ only. The RD enables temperature setpoint display and adjustment with options for occupancy override and fan speed adjustment (see order codes section). The SDU enables monitor and adjustment of selected parameters. f a supervisor/engineering tool, RD or SDU is connected to the controller it is not possible to connect an external NDP. Network Display Panel: A Network Display panel can be mounted externally or in the front cover to provide access to parameters within all Q controllers on a single or multi-lan system. Using icons, and softkeys it allows an operator to perform, under password protection, supervisory functions, such as setpoint adjustments, or to view logs and alarms from all controllers on the system. t can be powered from the Q/. The controller may be purchased with an NDP option fitted in the cover or there is a retrofit kit (KT/ENDP/) to add an integral NDP. Connection is via the internal NDP port (when mounted in front cover), or the supervisor port (when mounted externally). f mounted in the front cover, it is not possible to mount an internal Display Panel, and if the supervisor port is used to connect the NDP it is not possible to connect a Supervisor/Engineering Tool. t uses 7 ma from the Vdc supply (see auxiliary supply section above). f an NDP is connected externally, the CABLE/ EJ009 should be used to connect both the signal (RJ) and power (AUX). Note that if the NDP is connected externally via the local supervisor port (RJ) it uses the local supervisor port address (not NDP port address). The diagrams below illustrate the various combinations in which the display panels, network display panels and supervisor/engineering tools can be connected.
