1 TITLE NAVIGATION - CI COMM/GPS/XM ANTENNA REPLACEMENT (NON-WAAS ONLY) EFFECTIVITY REASON The airplanes that follow equipped with the Garmin G1000 Nav III System: MODEL SERIAL NUMBERS 172R thru S 172S09810 thru 172S T thru T182T T thru T H thru T206H The CI COMM/GPS/XM is no longer available. DESCRIPTION T thru T On airplanes with GDL 69A installed, this service bulletin provides parts and instructions to replace the CI COMM/GPS/XM Antenna with a CI Antenna and a CI Antenna. On airplanes without GDL 69A installed, this service bulletin provides parts and instructions to replace the CI COMM/GPS/XM Antenna with a CI Antenna. NOTE: The CI COMM/GPS/XM Antenna was only installed in the left (COMM2/GPS2) location. This service bulletin is only applicable to the left Comm antenna. COMPLIANCE OPTIONAL. This service bulletin can be accomplished at the discretion of the owner and should be accomplished when you replace the CI COMM/GPS/XM Antenna with a CI Antenna and a CI Antenna or with a CI Antenna. NOTE: If software version is not installed, you must accomplish Service Bulletin SEB-34-03, Navigation - Garmin G1000 System Software Upgrade to Version for Airplanes Equipped with NAV III (Non-WAAS Installations Only) in conjunction with this service bulletin. Refer to PUBLICATIONS AFFECTED Model 172 Series 1996 and On Maintenance Manual Model 182/T182 Series 1997 and On Maintenance Manual Model 206/T206 Series 1998 and On Maintenance Manual ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS NOTE: If software version is not installed, you must accomplish Cessna Service Bulletin SEB-34-03, Navigation - Garmin G1000 System Software Upgrade to Version for Airplanes Equipped with NAV III (Non-WAAS Installations Only) in conjunction with this service bulletin. 1. Prepare the airplane for maintenance. A. Make sure that all switches are in the OFF/NORM position. B. Disconnect electrical power from the airplane. (1) Disconnect external electrical power. (2) Disconnect the airplane battery. C. Attach maintenance warning tags to the battery and external power receptacle that have "DO NOT CONNECT ELECTRICAL POWER - MAINTENANCE IN PROGRESS" written on them. D. Remove the headliner trim as necessary to get access to the CI VHF/GPS/XM Antenna connectors and to install the new CI XM Antenna. (Refer to the applicable maintenance manual, Chapter 25, Interior Upholstery - Maintenance Practices.) NOTE: Full removal of the headliner and the interior trim is not necessary to get access to the connectors and to install the new antenna. If you remove only the minimum necessary, there is less risk of accidental damage to the airplane interior. 2. (Refer to Figure 2.) Remove the CI VHF/GPS/XM Antenna (on the left side of the airplane) and put a label on each connector. Discard the antenna and keep the attachment hardware. (Refer to the applicable maintenance manual, Chapter 23, Communications - Maintenance Practices.) 3. Remove the sealant from the area where the antenna was removed. Page 2 March 2, 2016

3 4. Make sure that the threads of the kept screws from the CI VHF/GPS/XM Antenna installation are clean and free of sealant. 5. Apply U Sealant in one continuous bead completely around the holes in the fuselage for the CI VHF/GPS Antenna connectors. 6. (Refer to Figure 1, Detail A and View A-A.) With the kept hardware from the CI VHF/GPS/XM Antenna, install one CI VHF/GPS Antenna in the position where you removed the CI VHF/GPS/XM Antenna. (Refer to the applicable maintenance manual, Chapter 23, Communications - Maintenance Practices.) NOTE: Do not apply sealant on top of the antenna mounting screws. A. Wipe away extruded U Sealant. 7. (Airplanes that are equipped with the GDL 69A) (Refer to Figure 1, Detail B and View B-B.) Install the CI XM Antenna as follows: A. Find the factory-installed Doubler for the CI XM Antenna. B. Use the hole in the center of the Doubler to match drill one 0.75-inch diameter hole through the airplane skin. C. (If there is not sufficient clearance for the CI XM Antenna.) Remove a maximum of 0.25 inch of the material aft of the drilled 0.75-inch diameter hole to get clearance. D. From the airplane interior, use the four nutplate holes (for the MS Screws) in the Doubler to match drill four Number 40 (0.098-inch diameter) holes. CAUTION: Make sure that you do no damage to the threads of the nutplates. E. From the airplane exterior, match drill the four Number 40 (0.098-inch diameter) holes to four inch diameter holes. CAUTION: Make sure that you do no damage to the threads of the nutplates. F. Deburr the drilled holes and apply Alodine to bare metal. G. Make sure that the area on the skin where you will install the CI XM Antenna is clean. (Refer to the applicable wiring diagram manual, Chapter 20, Bonding and Grounding - Maintenance Practices.) H. Put the B24809 Gasket and the CI XM Antenna in position on the fuselage. (1) Install the four MS Screws and torque to 25, +5 or 5 inch-pounds. NOTE: Do not apply sealant around the CI XM Antenna. 8. Make sure that there is a correct electrical bond between the antenna(s) and the airplane structure as follows: A. Remove one screw. B. With an ohmmeter, measure the electrical resistance from the antenna base metal insert to the structure at the screw position. The maximum allowable resistance at each of the four measured positions is Ohm. C. Install the screw and remove and install each of the remaining screws in turn as you measure the electrical resistance at each screw hole. (1) Torque the four MS Screws to 25, +5 or 5 inch-pounds. 9. Attach the coaxial cables for VHF/GPS to the CI VHF/GPS Antenna. 10. (For airplanes that are equipped with the GDL 69A) Attach the coaxial cable for the CI XM Antenna as follows: A. Install the APH-SMAJ-TNCP Adapter on the CI XM Antenna. March 2, 2016 Page 3

4 B. Do the routing of the XM antenna cable as necessary, and attach the GDL 69A coaxial connector to the adapter that you attached to the CI XM Antenna. 11. Get access to the backplate of the GDL 69A and remove and discard the 50FFM-007-TNC Attenuator, if installed. The 50FFM-007-TNC Attenuator is located between the antenna coaxial and the backplate. Reconnect the antenna coaxial cable directly to the backplate. (Refer to the applicable maintenance manual, Chapter 34, Navigation - Maintenance Practices.) 12. Install the headliner as necessary. (Refer to the applicable maintenance manual, Chapter 25, Interior Upholstery - Maintenance Practices.) 13. Remove maintenance warning tags from battery and external power receptacle and connect the battery. 14. Load the software as follows: A. If software version is installed: (1) Accomplish Cessna Service Bulletin SEB-34-03, Navigation - Garmin G1000 System Software Upgrade to Version for Airplanes Equipped with NAV III (Non-WAAS Installations Only) again. (2) Make sure the CI Antenna pull-down option is not loaded. B. If software version is not installed, accomplish Cessna Service Bulletin SEB-34-03, Navigation - Garmin G1000 System Software Upgrade to Version for Airplanes Equipped with NAV III (Non-WAAS Installations Only). (1) Make sure the CI Antenna pull-down option is not loaded. 15. Make sure that the antenna(s) operate correctly as follows: A. Put the airplane in a position that gives a clear view to the southern horizon. B. Make sure that all of the necessary circuit breakers are engaged for normal mode startup of the G1000 System. C. Put the BAT MASTER switch to the ON position D. Put the AVIONICS MASTER switches to the ON position. E. With the large and the small FMS knobs on the MFD, go to the AUX - GPS STATUS page. F. In the GPS STATUS box, make sure that the GPS2 SOLUTION shows 3D NAV. G. Tune to a local VHF COMM frequency on the VHF COMM #2 radio and make sure that you can receive on the VHF COMM #2 radio. H. (For airplanes that are equipped with the GDL 69A) With the large and the small FMS knobs on the MFD, go to the AUX - XM RADIO page and push the INFO soft key to show the AUX - XM INFORMATION page. I. (For airplanes that are equipped with the GDL 69A) Make sure that the DATA SIGNAL STRENGTH box shows STRONG. J. (For airplanes that are equipped with the GDL 69A) Make sure that the AUDIO SIGNAL STRENGTH box shows STRONG. K. Put the MASTER BAT switch and the AVIONICS BUS 1/BUS 2 switches in the off position. 16. Make an entry in the airplane logbook stating that this service bulletin has been installed.
