NOTE: If this service bulletin is to be accomplished near a Collins Repair Facility, the Radio Altimeter Converter may be taken to a Collins Repair Facility to accomplish Service Bulletin 501, Reduce Nuisance Radio Altimeter Flags. Service Bulletin 501, Reduce Nuisance Radio Altimeter Flags, will convert the Radio Altimeter Converter to a Otherwise order an exchange Radio Altimeter Converter from Cessna. REASON To correct the radio altimeter (RA) flash on the primary flight display (PFD). DESCRIPTION This service bulletin provides parts and instructions to replace the radio altimeter converter. COMPLIANCE DISCRETIONARY. This service bulletin may be accomplished at the discretion of the owner, if the RA flashes on the PFD. FLIGHT CREW OPERATIONS No Change. APPROVAL FAA approval has been obtained on technical data in this publication that affects airplane type design. This information shall be considered an amendment to the Cessna Manufacturer s Maintenance Manual and should be accomplished within the specified time requirement. CHANGE IN WEIGHT AND BALANCE None REFERENCES Cessna Model 525 Maintenance Manual PUBLICATIONS AFFECTED Cessna Model 525 Illustrated Parts Catalog ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS 1. Prepare the airplane for maintenance. A. Make sure that all switches are in the OFF/NORM position. B. Disconnect electrical power from the airplane. (1) Disconnect the airplane battery. (2) Disconnect external electrical power. C. Attach maintenance warning tags to the battery and external power receptacle that have "DO NOT CONNECT ELECTRICAL POWER - MAINTENANCE IN PROGRESS" written on them. 2. Remove the nose radome. (Refer to the Maintenance Manual, Chapter 53, Nose Radome - Maintenance Practices.) 3. (Refer to Figure 1, Sheet 1, Detail A.) Remove the Radio Altimeter Converter. (Refer to the Maintenance Manual, Chapter 34, Collins Pro Line 21 Radio Sensor System - Removal/Installation.) NOTE: If this service bulletin is to be accomplished near a Collins Repair Facility, the Radio Altimeter Converter may be taken to a Collins Repair Facility to accomplish Service Bulletin 501, Reduce Nuisance Radio Altimeter Flags. Service Bulletin 501, Reduce Nuisance Radio Altimeter Flags, will convert the Radio Altimeter Converter to a Otherwise order the Radio Altimeter Convert from Cessna. 4. (Refer to Figure 1, Sheet 1, Detail A.) Install the Radio Altimeter Converter. (Refer to the Maintenance Manual, Chapter 34, Collins Pro Line 21 Radio Sensor System - Removal/Installation.) 5. Remove the maintenance warning tags and connect external power to the airplane. Page 2

3 6. Do a test of radio altimeter. A. Set the minimum altitude to 200 feet on the pilot s PFD. B. Press the MENU SET button in the middle of the PUSH MENU ADVANCE knob until the cursor box is over the minimum altitude numbers. C. Set the minimum safe altitude to 200 feet. D. Push the R LSK 1 button on the PFD to turn on the radio altimeter. E. Cover the receiving (aft) radio altimeter antenna with a piece of aluminum. NOTE: Covering the receiving (aft) radio altimeter antenna will simulate that the airplane is above 2500 feet altitude. NOTE: The operational check will require two technicians to complete. One must observe the PFD display and the other will cover and remove the aluminum sheet from the receiving (aft) radio altimeter antenna. F. Remove the aluminum sheet from the radio altimeter antenna. G. Monitor the PFD display. H. The radio altimeter should count down from 2500 feet past the 200 feet minimum to zero feet. I. Make sure that the aural alert sounds and the visual alert appears on the PFD. 7. Remove external power from the airplane. 8. Install the nose radome. (Refer to the Maintenance Manual, Chapter 53, Nose Radome - Maintenance Practices.) 9. Record that this service bulletin has been completed. A. Complete a Maintenance Transaction Report. B. Put a copy of the completed Maintenance Transaction Report in the airplane logbook. C. Send a copy of the completed Maintenance Transaction Report to: CESCOM, PO Box 7706, Wichita, KS Page 3

Airplanes that are in close proximity to a Collins Repair Facility may take the Radio Altimeter Converter to Collins to have Service Bulletin 501, Reduce Nuisance Radio Altimeter Flags, incorporated to make the Radio Altimeter Converter. NEW P/N QUAN- TITY KEY WORD OLD P/N INSTRUCTIONS/ DISPOSITION Radio Altimeter Converter Return to the nearest Collins Repair Facility or to Cessna to exchange for upgraded units NOTE: International Owner/Operators: The existing Radio Altimeter Converter may be returned to Cessna Aircraft Company, Citation Parts Distribution, 7121 Southwest Boulevard, Wichita, Kansas 67215, USA, and exchanged for upgraded units. Due to limited availability, please expedite the return of the removed part. NOTE: Domestic Owner/Operators: The existing Radio Altimeter Converter is to be returned to Cessna Aircraft Company, Citation Parts Distribution, 7121 Southwest Boulevard, Wichita, Kansas 67215, USA, upgraded to the current mod level and returned to the owner/operator for installation. This option will require advance scheduling with Citation Parts Distribution, Telephone number (Domestic) or (International) or Telefax We estimate a turn around time of approximately 7 days. Page 4
