1 STATIC DISCHARGING. DESCRIPTION This section covers precipitation static wicks. Static wicks are installed on aircraft to discharge built up static electricity from the aircraft during flight.this helps reduce interference with radio systems. Micropoint static wicks are installed into static wick retainers. A. Wing Tip Precipitation Static Wicks- Serials 88 thru after SBX--0, and and subs The wing tip precipitation static wick retainers are installed to a bracket assembly. The bracket assembly is secured to a backing plate and gasket as part of the Anti-Collision Strobe Light Assembly. For more information on the Anti-Collision Strobe Light (Refer to -0). B. Wing Tip Precipitation Static Wicks- Serials 00 thru 877, 879 thru 88 after SBX--0 The wing tip precipitation static wick retainers are installed along with a backing plate as part of the of the Anti-Collision Strobe Light Assembly. For more information on the Anti-Collision Strobe Light (Refer to -0). C. Aileron Precipitation Static Wicks-88 thru after SBX--0 and and subs The aileron precipitation static wick retainers are attached directly to the wing between the wingtip and aileron. D. Elevator and Rudder Precipitation Static Wicks- Serials 00 thru 88 after SBX--0 and 88 thru after SBX--0 and and subs The elevator and rudder precipitation static wick retainers are attached directly to both elevators and the rudder. Wing Tip Precipitation Static Wicks- Serials 88 thru after SBX--0, and and subs (See Figure ) () Removal- Wing Tip Precipitation Static Wicks (a) Set BAT, BAT, and AVIONICS switches to OFF positions. (b) Pull NAV LIGHTS, STROBE LIGHTS, and INST LIGHTS circuit breakers. (c) Remove static wicks from retainers. () Installation- Wing Tip Precipitation Static Wicks (a) Acquire necessary tools, equipment, and supplies. Description P/N or Spec. Supplier Purpose Ohmmeter - Any Source Check resistance. Sealant (Refer to -0) Any Source Seal static wicks to surface. (b) Install static wicks onto both wing tips. Screw static wicks into retainers on both wing tips. Note: No torque stripe required. No Loctite or locking device required. Note: Torque static wicks to 0 - in-lb (. -.9 Nm). Leave an area of metal base of static wick exposed for future continuity checks. Fill gaps between metal base of static wicks and wing tip surfaces with sealant. (Refer to -0) (c) Serials w/ LED Strobe Light Assemblies before SBX--0: Install new gasket inboard of light assembly base plate to both LED strobe light assemblies. Ensure slit in gasket faces down. (d) Reset circuit breakers. (e) Perform Operational Test - Wing Tip Precipitation Static Wicks (Refer to ) () Operational Test - Precipitation Static Wicks (a) Using ohmmeter, confirm resistance from metal base of each static wick to exhaust tail pipe is less than 0 ohms. (b) Using megohmmeter, confirm resistance from metal base of each static wick to tip of static wick is - 00 megohms. Page Serials 88 thru after SBX--0, and and subs

Wing Tip Precipitation Static Wicks- Serials 00 thru 877, 879 thru 88 after SBX--0 (See Figure ) () Removal- Wing Tip Precipitation Static Wicks (a) Set BAT, BAT, and AVIONICS switches to OFF positions. (b) Pull NAV LIGHTS, STROBE LIGHTS, and REC/INST LTS or RECOG LIGHTS circuit breakers. (c) Remove static wicks from retainers. (d) Remove LH and RH wing tips. (Refer to 7-0) (e) Remove Anti-Collision Strobe Light from LH and RH wing tips. (Refer to -0) Remove backing plate assembly from Anti-Collision Strobe Light Assembly. Remove static wick retainer from backing plate assembly () Installation- Wing Tip Precipitation Static Wicks (a) Acquire necessary tools, equipment, and supplies. Description P/N or Spec. Supplier Purpose Ohmmeter - Any Source Check resistance. (b) Install static wick retainer to backing plate assembly with screws. (c) Install Anti-Collision Strobe Light assembly with backing plate assembly. (Refer to -0) (d) Install LH and RH wing tips. (Refer to 7-0) (e) Install static wicks onto both wing tips. Screw static wicks into retainers on both wing tips. Note: No torque stripe required. No Loctite or locking device required. Torque static wicks to 0 - in-lb (. -.9 Nm). (f) Reset circuit breakers. (g) Perform Operational Test - Precipitation Static Wicks. (Refer to ) Serials 00 thru 877, 879 thru 88 after SBX-- 0 Page

Aileron Precipitation Static Wicks- Serials 88 thru after SBX--0 and and subs (See Figure ) () Removal - Aileron Precipitation Static Wicks (a) Set BAT, BAT, and AVIONICS switches to OFF positions. (b) Pull NAV LIGHTS, STROBE LIGHTS, and REC/INST LTS or RECOG LIGHTS circuit breakers. (c) Remove static wicks from retainers. () Installation - Aileron Precipitation Static Wicks (a) Acquire necessary tools, equipment, and supplies. Description P/N or Spec. Supplier Purpose Ohmmeter - Any Source Check resistance. (b) Install static wicks onto both ailerons. Screw static wicks into retainers on both wings. Torque static wicks to 0 - in-lb (. -.9 Nm) (c) Reset circuit breakers. Description P/N or Spec. Supplier Purpose Ohmmeter - Any Source Check resistance. (b) Install static wicks onto elevators and rudder. Screw static wicks into retainers on rudder and both elevators. Note: No torque stripe required. No Loctite or locking device required. Torque static wicks to 0 - in-lb (. -.9 Nm). (c) Reset circuit breakers.
