2 TRIOL KN24+ VOLTAGE COMPENSATORS Dear Customers! KN24+ voltage compensators will help you cut financial and process losses due to unreliable power supply of your enterprises. Triol Corporation has offices in several countries, 3 production facilities and 9 product service centres. PURPOSE KN24+ voltage compensator is designed to improve the quality of essential power supply voltage by eliminating voltage surges and dips on the three-phase voltage curves. KN24+ is a dual energy converter with inputs connected to the supply system and outputs to the consumer s loads. Where necessary, KN24+ allows direct supply of the consumer s loads from a 0.4 kw system. KN24+ power circuit is based on IGBT-converters (voltage inverters), specialized booster transformer, high-speed thyristor switch, energy storage devices with charging units, and has a high-performance microprocessor control system. KN24+: Provides reliable continuous power supply to consumers in emergency and abnormal electric mains modes. Eliminates phase asymmetry in a standard consumer supply mode. Maintains the nominal voltage on the load side for 1 second in case of supply voltage failure, providing for reliable transfer of a backup power to the supply net. The voltage compensator is shown in the figure below. KN24+ is a cabinet-type device. Note The KN24 modification is provided without energy storage cabinets.

6 Operating aspects and operating modes High reliability due to connection of the switching thyristor equipment and devices based on IGBTmodules on different sides of a specialized transformer. Short KN24+ start-up time due to self-test of current and voltage measuring channels, analysis of microprocessor control and communication devices, checks of controllability and actuation of power switching and semiconductor devices. Redundant auxiliary power supply voltage provided by a three-phase input from the Customer s supply net and input from three-phase KN24+ output voltage as control voltage, with an auxiliary UPS for a main controller. Unique efficient software algorithms allowing flexible reconfiguration of KN24+ based on the condition of supply voltage and the Consumer s loads. KN24+ operating modes: - Test mode - Standby mode - Voltage Compensation mode - UPS mode Removable control panel featuring unique induction energizer technology. Multiple line control panel enables simultaneous display of several parameters. Text indication of error messages. KN24+ cabinet s layout and components are based on the Customer s load capacity. 7 Basic functions. Test mode Test mode ensures quick comprehensive check of all KN24+ components during commissioning. Main circuit details as given below show the stages of KN24+ test in the Test mode, as follows: QF circuit breaker quick - ON/OFF-operating check. ON/OFF check of the three-phase TK1 thyristor switch operating along with the QF circuit breaker. ON/OFF check of the three-phase TK3 thyristor switch with transformer T boost winding of a. Functional check of input active front end, Ud capacitor link and Uc supercapacitor link charging units. Functional check of input active front end rectifier, two output voltage inverters and three-phase TK2 thyristor switch acting as a switch between transformer T boost and load windings. 9 Basic functions. Standby mode In this mode, energy consumption is minimized to brining efficiency of the unit to above 99 %. KN24+ performs continuous monitoring of input voltage and checks input voltage value against the target voltage threshold. If input voltage value is outside the tolerable limit of ±10 % of the rated value, voltage compensation mode is enabled. 10 Basic functions. VC Voltage compensation mode In this mode, the compensator continuously monitors input voltage and checks its value against the target voltage threshold. In case of deviations, the IGBT converter group generates dynamic differential voltages to be transferred by transformer T to the three-phase boost winding. In this mode KN24+ maintains the rated voltage at load side with a tolerance not exceeding 1 % of the rated value. 11 Basic functions. UPS mode In most cases, supply voltage reduction for 30 % of the rated value or more is associated with an abnormal situation preceding complete input shutdown at the delivery point. Depending on the specific site features, this provision may not be fulfilled. Therefore, one of the stages of KN24+ start-up includes a process study and analysis of site power quality, with subsequent adjustment of KN24+ operation algorithms to the conditions of the actual facility. When switching to the UPS mode from VC mode, in the absence of input voltage, KN24+ disconnects the active rectifier from the mains input, reconnects the load and boost transformer windings and switches power storage device based on supercapacitors into operation. Voltage inverters based on IGBT transistors maintain the rated voltage on KN24+ load side within 1 s, which allows extra time for reliable transition of the loads to the standby circuit.
