2 What is Analog Switch? Ideal Switch: Input signal applied to the left I/O results in an identical output signal at the right I/O. The switches referred to in this presentation are CMOS FET Switches. MOSFET switches are small, fast, easy-to-control and consume little power.

4 Specification of Analog Switch Ron: Ron contributes to signal loss and degradation. Low- Ron switches have longer on and off periods. As Ron increases the overall bandwidth decreases due to the capacitance of the device. For audio signals they may not be a problem, but should be considered for higher frequency analog signals. Ron flatness: Ron flatness describes the variation of Ron versus signal range for a single channel, it contribute to the THD. Bandwidth: Bandwidth or insertion loss of the switch determines the maximum frequency that can be passed through the device without significant signal loss. OFF Isolation: a measure of the ability of the multiplexer to block ac signals in the off state. Crosstalk: Crosstalk is the amount of signal cross coupling from an off analog input to the output of another on channel output. it is basically channel-tochannel isolation and occurs due to the off state parasitic capacitances of the multiplexer
