1 Creative Photography Class Guidelines and Procedures Mrs. Cruz Syllabus & Agreement Form M/J Creative Photography 1 Mrs. Cruz Dear Parents and Students, Welcome Back! The objective of Creative Photography is to enable students to develop technical skills and creative approaches in the production and understanding of photographic imagery. Students will acquire knowledge of photography as an art form. The goal of this course is to motivate the student and instill a love for the arts. Due to the of this course, each student is expected to take proper care of materials and follow the classroom rules to ensure a rewarding experience for everyone. I am asking that ALL students register under the school s website. This will inform parents and students of weekly assignments that will be due throughout the school year. COURSE DESCRIPTION Creative Photography Courses: M/J Photography 1: Students explore the aesthetic foundations of art using beginning photography techniques. This course may include, but is not limited to, color and/or black and white photography via digital media and/or traditional photography. Processes and techniques for image capture and printing may include, but are not limited to, handcrafted pinhole cameras, hand tinting photographs, mixed media, photo collage, cross-processing, emerging technologies and new media. Content covers the basic mechanics of a camera, including lens and shutter operation, compositional foundations, printing an image for display, and evaluating a successful print. Craftsmanship and quality are reflected in the surface of the print, care of the materials, attention to compositional conventions, and expression of personal ideas and feelings. Student photographers use an art criticism process to evaluate, explain, and measure artistic growth in personal or group works. This course incorporates hands-on activities and consumption of art materials. M/J Photography 2: Students advance their technical and aesthetic foundations in photographic techniques. This course may include, but is not limited to, color and/or black and white photography, researching the history of photography, making connections to contemporary and community photographers, critiquing using varied techniques, and experimenting with a variety of photographic media which may include, but is not limited to, handcrafted pinhole cameras, hand tinting photographs, mixed media, cyanotypes, medium format, photo collage, color photography, cross-processing, creative filters, macro, panoramic, digital output on a variety of media, emerging technologies and new media. Craftsmanship and quality are reflected in the surface of the print, care of the materials, attention to compositional conventions, and expression of personal ideas and feelings. Student

2 photographers use an art criticism process to evaluate, explain, and measure artistic growth in personal or group works. This course incorporates hands-on activities and consumption of art materials. High School Course Photography 1: Students explore the aesthetic foundations of art making using beginning photography techniques. This course may include, but is not limited to, color and/or black and white photography via digital media photography. Students become familiar with the basic mechanics of a camera, including lens and shutter operation, compositional foundations, printing an image for display, and evaluating a successful print. COURSE MATERIALS REQUIRED: $20.00 Photography Class Fee (for the year) can be paid online through the school website. Fees are due by September 2 nd, 2016 Any student who has not paid by the due date will be issued a Financial Obligation 1-3 ring binder 1 (can be shared with another class) 2 Dividers Line Paper for notes Copy Paper for Photos of the Day Markers or Color Pencils for drawing to color in Photo of the Day 1 pencil Glue Stick 16 GB or higher USB with SD card reader to store all image files throughout the year Point & Shoot Camera MB or higher Memory Card 2 GBs or higher NO FILM CAMERAS ARE TO BE USED SINCE WE ONLY USE A DIGITAL LAB TO VIEW AND EDIT OUR PHOTOS Places to purchase a camera: Suggestions in purchasing a camera (sells used and new cameras), Digital World in Dolphin Mall, Best Buy, Wolf Camera, Brand Smart, Target, Pitman Photo *** Students will benefit from a dslr but are not REQUIRED to purchase one. GRADING: Grades will be determined individually based on completion of projects, quiz scores, test scores, assignments and participation, comprehension, effort, and initiative will be considered. Parents/Students may view their grades by the parent or student portal. If a student is unsure of a grade, please wait till the last 10 minutes of class to discuss it one on one. Grades will be calculated as follows: Projects 30% Tests 25%

3 Quizzes 15% CW/HW 15% Participation 15% Participation in class: Students will need to bring in their cameras only if teacher posts it on Edmodo.com or HW page. Students who do not bring in cameras on the days that they are needed will receive a Z for participation for that day. Cheating/plagiarism will not be tolerated. Any student who is caught using an image from the internet or taken by another student will result in a Zero and will not receive credit for that assignment. Students are always expected to be on task and be working on their assignments at all times. Students who are not task and on other websites will have a picture of the site they were on placed in their folder and blocked from the computer. This will result in an F for that assignment. It is imperative in this course to have access to a camera at all times throughout the year. Failure to not have a camera will result in a low academic grade for the course. MAKE-UPS: An excused absence from class may cause the student to fall behind. Therefore, it is the student's responsibility to make up projects, tests and/or assignments. Projects, tests and assignments must be made up the week that the student returns to school. If the absence is unexcused due to tardiness or absences the student will not be allowed to makeup assignments and they will receive zero/zeros for the unexcused day. Tests are announced at least one week ahead of time and posted on school website; therefore, an absence before a test will not be excuse from having to take the test on the test day. You will be expected to take the test with the rest of the class. Students who are placed in lockout will not be allowed to make up the work missed and will receive a Zero for any work not handed in on that day. Please print and sign Syllabus Agreement and Equipment Usage Form and turn into teacher by A day classes September 1 tst and B day September 2nd to receive a grade.

4 Syllabus Agreement STUDENT NAME: CLASS PERIOD: BEHAVIORAL EXPECTATIONS AND CONSEQUENCES Behavior: 1. Be on time 2. You are expected to respect others and their property 3. Clean up after yourself 4. You are expected to respect teacher authority 5. Follow directions 6. Bring your materials to class 7. Take care of school equipment and student equipment. 8. No food or drinks are allowed in classroom at any time. 9. Students should only be on assigned websites pertaining to assignment or working on Photoshop. (Any student off task will receive a ZERO for that day) Consequences: Behavior issues will be dealt as follows: 1. Parental Contact 2. Detention 3. Parent-Teacher Conference 4. 5 Student Name: Class period: Date: Equipment Usage Form Students are expected to be responsible for school-owned equipment used in class including: cameras, tripods, batteries, memory cards, camera bags, computers, and software. Cameras are valued at more than $200. Camera repairs start at $100 minimum; these are not minor costs. Computer equipment must also be cared for in a businesslike manner and misuse will not be tolerated. Please Note: - It is the student s responsibility to alert the teacher of any misuse of the equipment. This course does have a check in/check out procedure for all equipment. Any student who checks out equipment during class needs to make sure the equipment is working properly BEFORE beginning a shoot. Once the equipment is checked out it must be returned in working condition. Otherwise, the equipment failure will be your responsibility. I understand that my child will be required to pay for lost or damaged equipment if equipment is lost, broken, or damaged while checked out.
