1 Honors Digital Photography Mrs. Payne COURSE DESCRIPTION: Honors 2-D Digital Design is an upper level art course which focuses on the creation of a digital design and photography portfolio. Photography will be presented through historical and contemporary examples. Various traditional and non-traditional photo processes will be experienced. Digital photography principles including camera operation, composition, lighting, and personal expression through photography will be explored. Art elements and design principles will be demonstrated in a digital format. Photo manipulation and software will be presented to assist students in enhancing and/or manipulating photographs. Students should expect some financial responsibility for advanced art materials. Assignments will be submitted via Edmodo. 3 JOURNAL SKETCHBOOKS: Students will record notes and keep a journal with examples of image types for each unit. REQUIRED MATERIALS: 1. THUMBDRIVE 2. 2 wooden pencils x12 spiral bound sketchbook 4. 1 two pocket folder GRADING POLICY: Formative assignments 30% Summative assignments 70% A= B=89-80 C=70-70 D=69-60 F=59-0 I= incomplete MAKE UP WORK DUE TO ABSENCES: Work missed because of Absences may be made up at a time mutually convenient to teacher and student. Students are expected to take the initiative in planning such a time and students should do so no longer than the second day following their absence. Long term assignments or artworks are due on the date announced regardless of the absences. LATE WORK: Late work is not the same as Work Not Handed In It is the student s responsibility to communicate with the teacher prior to the due date The teacher will approve a new due date. If the work is not turned in by the new due date it will be treated as Work Not Handed In. The student will have the opportunity to work on the assignment at home, during FLEX, or for 30 minutes after school if the teacher s schedule allows, while continuing to proceed with the rest of the class. WORK NOT HANDED IN: Must be turned in at the beginning of the next class and will be assessed a 10% grade reduction as a consequence. Work turned in any later will be graded at 50%. Excuses such as I forgot my camera, My camera was out of batteries, I did not have time to do the assignment, I could not get a camera to check out are NOT valid. If you need to check out a camera from school, make sure you do it well ahead of the due date. SECOND CHANCE LEARNING: Second chance learning is not meant to be used as a substitute for effort on regular assignments, but rather as a safety net. Students will have one opportunity to redo/retake assignments at the teacher s discretion. To qualify, students must have submitted the original assignment by the due date. Students must arrange for remediation during the next available FLEX after the assignment was returned. Students must submit the revised assignment, along with the Second Chance Learning Reflection Form, within ten days following the return of the original assignment. The higher grade shall be the grade of record. Formative assignments may are not eligible for second chance learning after the end of the unit of study. The end of the unit is determined by the deadline of the unit Summative assignment. Summative unit assessments and final marking period or semester assessments are not eligible for second chance learning. No second chance learning will be accepted during the last week of the grading period. Students may request to come to FLEX to work on assignments or meet with the teacher at any time. ACADEMIC INTEGRITY: Academic honesty is an essential part of any school community. Carroll County Public Schools seeks to promote the importance of honesty as a basis of respect and cooperation among all of its members. All parties students, teachers and administrators, and staff have the obligation to act in a consistently honorable manner with one another. Academic dishonesty/cheating, in any form on a graded assignment, will not be tolerated. Examples include, but are not limited to; turning in work as your own when someone else has done all or part of the assignment, knowingly giving or receiving information about answers to homework, quizzes, or tests, and plagiarism. Questions should be directed to school administrators.

4 SECURITY: Students must remain seated or standing by their assigned seat until the bell. Students cannot congregate by the classroom doors at the end of class. PED POLICY AND EXPECTATIONS: Use of a personal electronic devise is at the teacher s discretion. When entering the art classroom all devises are away and on silent. Earbuds should also be removed from both ears. WEARING HATS DURING THE SCHOOL DAY Allowed prior to 7:30 bell, during class changes, and at lunch, only. PERFORMANCE AND WORK EXPECTATIONS: In the art room we RESPECT each other, bring the REQUIRED MATERIALS, work as a TEAM, TRY OUR BEST, LEARN from mistakes, CREATE, CELEBRATE each other s successes. I will pay for any repairs needed, due to negligence, when the equipment is in my son or daughter s control. I also agree to pay for, or replace with comparable equipment, any items lost or stolen while in my child s care (see below). I understand that my son or daughter s grades, transcript and diploma will be held until this debt is paid. If lost or broken, REPLACEMENT OF EQUIPMENT IS PREFERED!!! Please remember if equipment is lost or damaged, it also affects the other students in the program as well, as there will be one less piece of equipment for them to use this year, and we never seem to have enough cameras for all the students who need them. Immediate replacement allows the camera to be back in circulation this school year. Replacements can be bought from stores such as Amazon.com, bhphoto.com, or Best Buy. Amazon usually has the best prices.
