1 Course Description Two-semester elective course for self-motivated and polite students who have received prior approval This course solely works towards the completion and selling of the Willard Middle School yearbook: Paws In Time Students will compose, construct, and edit all elements of computerized text layout, graphic art, and digital photography Students may work on many clerical operations, make announcements, maintain signs, and conduct student polls and interviews Yearbook is a monetary business so students must cooperatively work with others, be industrious, and eager to be creative Out of class and after school, students will shoot digital photos, sell, and distribute yearbook order forms and yearbooks Students are responsible to the proper care and handling of digital cameras, scanners, card readers and any other technologies in the classroom Course Objectives Proficient in computer technologies Demonstrate proper photo-taking techniques Construct an accurate and artistic yearbook Work collaboratively with good skills showing good character Design and create yearbook spreads on time Take assigned pictures on time Conduct interviews Write headlines and captions for your assigned pages Classroom Expectations Tiger Pride P: put downs are prohibited R: respect self, property, and others I: insist upon personal best D: discuss and listen actively E: expect and give truth and honesty Grading Grades will be calculated using the students percentage of mastery at each progress report. The progress 4 (P4) and progress 8 (P8) grade will be the students final grade per semester. For more information, please refer to the WMS Parent Standards Based Grading Handbook. Since this is a production class, if you are making adequate progress and meeting deadlines, you will receive Mastery or an A for the deadlines assessed. Failure to complete a production deadline will result in a lower assessment. Expecting other students or to complete unfinished work is not fair to other members of the staff. Students and parents must understand the responsibility of the students to the entire publication process.

2 Attendance Be here. If you are not in class or attending functions you signed up for, the yearbook cannot be completed. Our yearbook pages can be accessed via the web, so if you are absent you can still work on your pages if you have Internet at home. Discipline Policy See the WMS website for our specific discipline policies Students often need to leave the classroom to take pictures, do interviews, or complete other yearbook functions. Students who abuse that freedom and responsibility put the entire staff at risk of losing the ability to do their work outside of the classroom during the school day. All staff members who leave the classroom during the day must grab a special hall pass to hang around their neck Any yearbook student who leaves the classroom to complete a yearbook assignment and who does anything other than yearbook work or who participates in any unsanctioned activity will receive an automatic discipline write up and will be restricted to the classroom for the remainder of the school year. If the infraction warrants discipline from the office, it will be considered on an individual basis whether the student will be allowed to continue as part of the Yearbook Staff. Students will be required to participate in taking photos at after school athletics, clubs, and events. You must always conduct yourself in a professional, respectable manner. If any student receives discipline from the office in the form of ISS or OSS, Mrs. Loveland reserves the right to decide whether or not the yearbook staff member will be allowed to continue in the course. Each situation will be considered on an individual basis. Remember, you are part of an elite group of students chosen for this position. Showing good character is of utmost importance.

3 Technology Use your imagination Push yourself creatively. We have the privilege of having a classroom full of computers and other cool technologies! I expect you to show good computer class etiquette by: Not eating or drinking in the lab Not changing any settings like the screen saver, backgrounds, desktop icons, etc Only accessing school appropriate websites Not downloading any programs or games without the teacher s permission Working appropriately with and being respectful of all classroom technology Taking excellent care of technology items that have been checked out DO NOT allow any non-staff member use any of the classroom technology items, including but not limited to, all cameras, batteries, SD cards, etc. Responsibility has digital cameras available to students to check out for their assigned events. That student is responsible for that camera and any add-ons associated with that camera (memory card, batteries, case, lens, etc.) Lost, stolen, or damaged cameras are the responsibility of the student the camera is checked out to. The cost of repair/replacement will be assessed just as it would for lost or damaged textbooks or laptops. 4 Contract Intention Yearbook Contract for Cameras Your child is enrolled in Yearbook class at Willard Middle School. He/she will be using several types of digital cameras, picture cards, card reader, scanner, rechargeable batteries and charger owned by the middle school. The parent/guardian will be responsible if the equipment is stolen, lost or damaged. Any inappropriate use of these tools shall be directed to the administration at Willard Middle School. There is a daily sign out/sign in sheet of classroom cameras/case and Picture Cards since your student will need to use the cameras before and after school. Your student will also have a camera checked out to him/her for the entire school year. In order for your child to be eligible to sign out a camera kit you and/or have a camera assigned to them for the year, the parent/guardian and student will need to understand and agree to the terms listed below. Please sign where indicated and return to. If you or your student has a personal camera you would rather them use for the year, that is completely acceptable! Several students in past years have opted to bring their camera device to school. If that is the route you decide to take, please indicate that below. Please note that and Willard Schools assumes no responsibility or liability for any and all equipment that your student may bring from home. Student Contract I understand that I, (student name) will be using but is not limited to, a Kodak EasyShare camera ($100), Nikon Coolpix L4 ($100), HP Photosmart M425 ($100), Sony Cybershot ($250), Nikon D40 ($750), Nikon D3000 ($750), Nikon mm lens ($250), Cannon EOS T5 ($650), Cannon T5 Lens ($250-$500), Nikon Coolpix S6100 and S4100 ($ each), Sony Digital Video Recorders ($350), SD cards (value $15), and rechargeable batteries ($20-$65 value) owned by Willard Middle School for the sole purpose of Yearbook class assignments. I understand that any other use of any of the classroom digital will not be tolerated such as lending the camera to a friend or relative, inappropriate photography, etc. I understand that this equipment is to be in my possession at all times. I further understand that I will return the borrowed digital equipment on the date agreed on the sign out sheets and in the same condition as I checked it out in. I understand that my parent/guardian is responsible if any used equipment is stolen, lost or damaged. I am aware of the individual costs of the camera kit and that if any part becomes stolen, lost, or damaged, then my parent/guardian is responsible to pay the replacement value for this amount. I agree to pay Willard Middle School the replacement value for any stolen, lost, or damaged items from the checked out camera kit which may include, but is not limited to, the specific make and model of the checked out camera, camera case, picture card, and rechargeable batteries assigned to my child.
