3 Subject Area: HS Photography Unit 1 : History of Photography Unit Outcomes: Identify, describe and interpret the historical, cultural and social context of the art of photography. Essential Outcome and Related Standards: A. Identify and describe the history of photography from the 15th century camera obscura, the invention of modern photography in 1839 through to the digital camera of today. Demonstrate the techniques utilized in the primitive process of creating photographic images by creating and using a pinhole camera. State Standard(s): 9.2A-L C. Analyze and critique a photograph from its historical and cultural perspective. Apply the six compositional guidelines for photography. They include: simplicity, rule of thirds, balance, symmetry/asymmetry, framing and mergers. Essential Outcome and Related Standards: A. Identify and describe the importance of utilizing compositional guidelines when creating photographs. Students will understand and demonstrate the importance of aperture, shutter speeds and film speeds. Essential Outcome and Related Standards: A. Identify and describe the functions of each camera type and the parts of the camera. Relate and demonstrate the importance of light to the function of the aperture and shutter speed to the end photographic product. Demonstrate understanding and mastery of SLR 35mm photography according to specific guidelines and instructions emphasizing selective focus, depth of field, stop motion, and blur motion. State Standard(s): A-K A. Identify, manipulate and operate an SLR 35mm camera. Discussion of similarities and differences between all cameras. Students work with cameras and film basics for practice. Essential Outcomes and Related Standards: A. Identify the parts and function of the film developing tank and master preparing the film for developing by loading film into developing tank. State Standard(s): A-L B. Identify and understand the job of each chemical used for developing film and the order in which they must be used to be successful and how variables such as amount, timing, and temperature affect the process. State Standard(s): A-K Core Content Standards(s): Math CC.Z.1.HS.F.Z, CC.Z.l.HS.F.3, CC.Z.l.HS.F.4, CC.Z.l.HS.F.S CC.Z.1.HS.F.6 A. Introduction to parts and function of the film tank Demonstration on loading the film onto the reel Practice loading the film onto the reel and loading the tank. Mastering loading the film onto the reel and loading the tank in the dark. Remediation: Additional demonstrations, instruction and practice time. Enrichment: Increase requirements for rubric. Assessment Criteria: Teacher observation and verbal assessment. Resources and Materials: Old film (for practicing), developing tanks and all their components, black bags, film, darkroom. B. Identify and understand the job of each chemical used for developing film and the order in which they must be used to be successful and how variables such as amount, timing, and temperature affect the process. Explain the purpose/job of each chemical used in the film developing process and how that determines the correct order. Explain the variables such as the amount and timing of each chemical as well as the temperature that is needed to be successful. 10

Students will also apply safe handling of equipment and chemicals in the darkroom. Essential Outcome and Related Standards: A. Identify, analyze and apply darkroom safety procedures.
