3 Why ETCS Baseline 3? More flexibility (and performance) thanks to an extended set of train categories (mixed traffic) Opportunity (and challenges) offered by the new Baseline 3 braking model Use of new function Permitted Braking Distance (packet 52) to manage ETCS L1 application on RFI trackside signalling system Adoption of CR818 for Balise Groups inconsistency management in Level NTC, when Balise Group contains only national data (packet 44) Optimized Radio Infill functionality (CR 742) More effective management of non protected LX (packet 88) 7/11/ Lille 3

4 Why two Pilot lines? The "Level 2" solution is generally the best choice for the Italian Corridors; "Level 1" with Radio Infill represents a specific solution for large shunting areas or installations with old generation interlocking (IXL) then... Milano-Treviglio (section of corridor D) L2 Pilot Line aims to achieve the consolidation of the Requirements Specification for ETCS L2 application on RFI conventional line Sciara-Cammarata (Sicily) L1 + Radio Infill Pilot Line aims to achieve the consolidation of the Requirements Specification for ETCS L1 + Radio Infill application on RFI conventional line 7/11/ Lille 4
