spacing, efficiency, uniformity, and aesthetic appearance of light patterns for final design for the construction document phase. Multipurpose Room Overall Design Concept When visiting the Library, Ronald Reagan s presence is felt through the memorabilia and his character is brought to life through the site and its architecture. The lighting system was designed to complement the existence of President Reagan s persona by exhibiting a peaceful and sophisticated lighting design. This redesign attempted to be sensitive to existing architectural features and to maximize the continuity of the décor as visitors walk from room to room. Multipurpose Room Design Concept A conscious effort was made to integrate the lighting system with the architecture in the Multipurpose Room. Architectural characteristics include formal interior finishes, a redwood ceiling, double height windows on the north and west walls, and a second floor balcony. The dominant square geometric shape is also emphasized in various aspects throughout the building such as the floor plan, impressions in the exterior façade, and decorative details. The purpose of this space is to accommodate large functions for a variety of entertainment purposes. Most presidential entertainment spaces are decorated with a chandelier as the central focal point of the room; therefore, a custom chandelier was designed for this space. The chandelier is decorative and functional, providing uplight to the ceiling, downlight, and sparkle. All geometric features of the chandelier, plan geometry, and lampshades, are square to integrate with the square architecture mentioned previously. The top tier also serves as housing for a cove around the inside that hides flood luminaires to highlight the ceiling (see figure 1). Figure 1 Chandelier Sketch and detail 6
To avoid cutting holes in the redwood ceiling, directional downlights are recessed along the sides of the structural wood supports to provide general illumination levels necessary to meet the horizontal illuminance design criteria. To accommodate for the multipurpose nature of this space, a zoned dimming control system has been specified to preset scenes for different functions such as a presentation, a formal dinner party, or simply to serve as extra seating the Reagan Country Café. A conscious effort was made in the design of the control system to provide a user-friendly interface. Dimming integration was also important for this space because of the potential for energy savings. A portion of the bottom floor is open to above while the ceiling of the balcony encloses the remaining space. To continue the direct/indirect traits of the lighting system of the second floor and first floor portion that is open to above, square downlights provide the direct component for general illumination and wall washers around the perimeter provide the indirect component. Design Criteria System Control and Flexibility: It is essential that the lighting system be easily controlled to varying light levels to accommodate the requirements of each event. Dimming, switching, multiple lighting systems and adjustable luminaires may be possibilities to achieve flexibility. Adjustable luminaires should be easily accessible to aim on a per-event basis. Daylight Integration: The double height windows and California location provide an opportunity for successful daylight integration and potential energy savings. Natural daylight is important to this room to give it the indoor/outdoor feeling that the architect envisioned. Room darkening is required for presentations on a projection screen. Shades for darkening areas required for presentations on a projections screen are utilized. Another possibility for darkening is to cover a set of the full height windows with white material facing towards the inside of the room and having them used as the projection screen themselves. Appearance of Space and Luminaires: The appearance of each space in this Library/Museum is important because this building is meant to be an attraction. The architecture and lighting of this building should be assets in creating a pleasurable experience for visitors as they view displays. The appearance of the luminaires were considered. The major lighting system disappears while providing sufficient light to the tables and highlighting the redwood ceiling. Surface Characteristics: The redwood planking used on the ceiling is one of the architectural features of this room. It is important for the lighting system to enhance this ceiling surface. Recessed fixtures place at intersections of roof surfaces which are not made of redwood were used to eliminate the need to cut holes in the redwood. 7
Atmosphere: The atmosphere of this space is important. The presidiential, sophisticated, yet peaceful atmosphere as stated in the design concept, has been preserved. Horizontal Illuminance: Reception 20 fc Education/Lecture 30 fc Group Gathering 20 fc Sufficient light must reach the task plane for each event. The lighting system must be flexible enough to provide different light level to the task plane for each event type. Vertical Illuminance: Reception/Dining 5 fc Education/Lecture 10 fc Vertical Illuminance is also important to consider for visibility. The amount necessary is, again, dependent on the event. The lighting system should be flexible to provide different levels of vertical illuminance. ASHREA/IESNA 90.1, 1999 Power Allowance: 1.5 W/sq.ft. 7 Scene Control The dimming system provides preset scenes that can be turned on or off with a 7 button user interface panel. The Multipurpose Room will be used for many different events, but will mostly be used as a cafeteria space, dinner events, and a presentation space. Therefore, preset scenes are provided for each of these events. For a cafeteria setting the metal halides of the directional downlights will be used and the AR111 lamps will be turned off. For presentation purpose, the AR111 will be used for easy dimming and instant start up time. The ceiling highlights and chandelier will be turned on for cafeteria usage and for a nighttime event; it will not be highlighted for a presentation. During the special events, there is the option of the walls of the Presidential Learning Center (PLC) to be open for additional space, usually used for catering. If this is the case, additional scenes are necessary. Though these scenes are preset, each zone can be overridden from the A/V control room and dimmed to the necessary level. The scenes are listed below: Scene Description Zones 1 Cafeteria Setting A,B,C,D,G 2 Presentation A,B,C,E,F&FB(50%) 3 Presentation with PLC Open A,B,C,E,F&FB(50%),M(50%),N(50%) 4 Night Dinner Event A,B,C,E,F&FB,G 5 Night Dinner Event with PLC Open A,B,C,E,F&FB,G,M(75%),M(75%) 6 Daylight (see daylighting section) A,B,FB,C(50%),G 7 All Off A,B,C,D,E,F,FB 12

Proposed Daylight Integration A comprehensive daylighting analysis was performed using AGI32 for the Multipurpose Room. The Multipurpose Room is the only room in this lighting redesign that will benefit from daylight integration. The location of Simi Valley, California is degrees latitude and degress longitude. Calculation grids were placed along the work plane (2-6 ) above the bottom floor and the balcony floor. The windows, as specified by the architect for this space, are 8% reflective and 45% transmissive. The days calculated for this daylight analysis are as follows: Date Time Sky Condition March 21 st 10AM, 12PM, 2PM, 4PM Over Cast, Partly Cloudy, Clear June 21 st 10AM, 12PM, 2PM, 4PM Over Cast, Partly Cloudy, Clear December 21 st 10AM, 12PM, 2PM Over Cast, Partly Cloudy, Clear One LEED point can be obtained by 75% of the critical task area being above 2% daylight factor. Daylight factor is defined as the ratio of the interior illuminance to the exterior illuminance on an overcast day. The daylight factor was calculated for June 21 st at 12:00PM for the Multipurpose Room. The exterior illuminance was 1973fc for this day. This overcast sky condition resulted in 61% of the points being above the 2% daylight criteria. This would not earn a LEED certification point for daylight factor, although 73% of the points on the bottom floor are above 2% daylight factor. The main reason for this is the balcony level. The balcony level does block daylight from penetrating deep into the bottom floor, though. For shading possibilities, the architect has specified motorized shades and opaque shades. The motorized shades are used to block direct sun from entering the space. The fabric is made with PVC coated yarns. The solar properties of the shades are as follows: solar transmittance 6%, solar reflectance 11%, visual transmittance 7%, and openness factor 5%. The windows are north and west facing, therefore allowing some direct sun penetration during the later afternoon hours. From the daylighting study these shades will be necessary after 2:00PM for clear and partly cloudy days. When visiting the library, the shades were down in the late afternoon. A view was still visible to the outside with a comfortable atmosphere inside. The opaque shades will be used for presentation purposes only. This will allow for appropriate darkening for a visible projection screen. During presentations, the opaque shades will be used in conjunction with the dimmable incandescent portion of the downlights and dimmable square downlights to produce the desirable light level. Preset scene 2 and 3, as discussed in scene controls, are preprogrammed for a presentation function. From analyzing the results of the daylight study, it is evident that there is opportunity for dimming during the afternoon hours. The balcony level and under the balcony level does not receive much daylight, although the main bottom floor does receive adequate daylight. Because the Multipurpose Room is used for many different functions, on average two or three per day, a photosensor does not seem to be the best choice for daylight integration. The solution for daylight integration and energy savings is a preset scene for the dimming control system. Looking at the patterns, it is evident that the southeast corner, the corner farthest from the windows, is not receiving adequate light (see figure 2). The worst case scenario found was on December 21 st at 18
10:00AM. The minimum points of illuminance on the task plane were 3.4 fc on the top balcony and 4.3 fc on the bottom floor task plane. Under the balcony, there is only adequate daylighting a few feet into the space from the windows, therefore, the square recessed downlights that provide illumination to this portion of the room will need to be switched on all of the time. The chandelier will be on for most functions for decorative purposes but may be dimmed for daylight integration to 50%. The main cost and energy savings will be with switching the incandescent balcony portion on only for the directional downlights (zone FB). Adequate daylight reaches the bottom floor portion that is open to above, therefore, the downlights illuminating this portion will be switched off. This preset scene is scene 6 on the user-interface panel for the room. To conclude this daylight analysis, there is an opportunity for dimming and energy savings for most days of the year. A preset scene for daylight integration provides light to southeast corner of the room on the bottom and top floors. This will result in an approximate energy saving of 8.14KW per hour and $1971 savings per year if this scene was selected for five hours of the day. During the late afternoon, direct sunlight will penetrate into the space; therefore the solar shades will be necessary to block the direct sun. (See enclosed CD for daylight calculation grids, radiosity solutions, and jpeg images in AGI32). Figure 2 Grey shaded area not receiving adequate daylight for all times and dates studied. 19

Conclusions The Multipurpose Space provides a flexible lighting system to accommodate all function types. Seven preset scenes have been programmed into the system to provide user-friendly interface for the facility staff to change the lighting levels as needed for given functions. The lighting system is not only functional, but also decorative. The main feature of the system consists of a four-tiered chandelier that can be enjoyed from both the balcony and the bottom level. All aspects of the system are sensitive to architectural features; hence the use of square shaped luminaires. Daylight integration was also considered. An in-depth daylight study of this building resulted in the creation of a daylighting preset scene, which can be used together with solar shades to provide a comfortable daylighting level for tasks in this room. Design goals that were met for this space include: a flexible and easily controlled "multipurpose" lighting system, a decorative appearance, and daylight integration. The Title 24 and ASHRAE standards for power density allowance were also met. One important goal for this space was the highlighting of the redwood ceiling. The system provided highlights the ceiling with an average of 6.69fc. This design was intended to provide higher illuminance level. The systems angles and ability to hide the fixture were successful. A higher wattage lamp may increase the illuminance level on the ceiling. 21
