3 PLAYING WITH LIGHT & COLOR MARY ISELIN April 21 & 22, 2018 In this workshop, we will explore color and light as they add joy and personal voice to our paintings. Students will learn techniques to help them see color, and to make individual choices about how to express the colors they see. We will also discuss how the type of light in which an object is viewed is what allows us to see the colors we wish to express. On day one, we will first watch a short demo, then create a painting of our own using back-lighting. On day two, we will watch a short landscape demo, then work on a landscape painting of our own, using the techniques demonstrated. In case of heavenly weather, we might even go outside! Colored pencils are an easy transported medium and can be used for simple sketches to complex layered drawings. In this workshop we will be combining and learning about dry colored pencils with watercolor pencils and how this mixed media approach allows for a quicker build up of color and value. Artists of all levels will enjoy expanding the boundaries of this versatile colored pencil medium. We will begin with a short discussion on materials then a demo about applying the pencils, mixing and layering colors and burnishing. Students will then work from a still life set up or photos if they wish. I like to work individually with each student during the workshop to their own abilities. Some materials will be provided, I do have some colored pencils and watercolor pencils for students to borrow during the workshop. Kendra holds a BFA from Massachusetts College of Art, Boston. 18 MAAA NEWS Painting Group Hello MAAA Artists, Due to the Keene Public Library's renovation plans for the Heberton Hall annex, the Painting Group that has meet at the library for a number of years on Thursdays from will not be meeting there until the renovations are completed. The other meeting rooms in the main library space, such as the Green Room and the Trustees Room do not have adequate lighting to use for a painting group. In the meantime, if anyone has a suggestion of an alternative meeting space, please reply with your comments or questions to: Liz Winchester-Larson lizart39@yahoo.com Every Thursday Heberton Hall All members are invited to attend the Painting Group, meeting every Thursday morning at 10:00 A.M. in Heberton Hall.
