DAVID THOMAS MAGGIE O BRIEN STUART KETTLE FRONT COVER: 1 Rushy Bay beach at low tide by Paul Lewin oil on canvas 100 x 100cm 4250 The July 2018 collection is a vibrant body of work from artists both established and new to our shores, and as such offers some fresh perspectives on familiar scenes. Local landmarks newly highlighted show island life at its most charming. Summer on the islands is captured for eternity. Anna Parkes GALLERY TRESCO

3 Paul Lewin 4-13 July 2018 A painter of international renown for his cliff-top en plein air paintings, Paul Lewin studied in Bristol and has since lived and worked in south-west Britain, much of this in West Penwith, the westernmost tip of Cornwall. A common thread throughout his career has been his close connection with the Isles of Scilly and in particular Tresco. He has had over 50 one-person exhibitions and numerous group shows in the UK and this is his latest collection inspired by the unique island landscapes for Gallery Tresco. 2 Morning sunlight, Borough Beach oil on canvas 120 x 100cm 4950

8 Lizzie Black 4-13 July 2018 On my visits to Tresco I wanted to acquaint myself with the island and its varied landscape. From the unbroken sweeps of bleached white sands and healing distant views to the glorious Abbey Gardens: its jumble of terracotta pots and bounty of exotic plants populated by quirky birds and wildlife. By painting directly in front of the subject I learnt about the changing patterns of the day, season and weather scape. I hope to capture the transitory moments of light, colour, tide and time, and to communicate the island s beauty and magic on canvas. 11 Tresco beach oil on canvas board 20 x 25cm 500

13 Iona Sanders 4-13 July 2018 I am lucky enough to pop to and from the Scillies throughout all the seasons, but my residency this year was in early March. The daffs were abundant and the island was generally a lot more colourful than earlier in the year. The light, as ever, was amazing and the island was very quiet. My paintings this year have echoed the greyer days of late winter, the frequently visiting fog, and the resplendent colours of later in the year which inspired me when I returned in July and August. 21 Oranges a go-go, Tresco mixed media on canvas 61 x 61cm 700

18 Rosemary Trestini July 2018 I have tried to reflect a quiet haven of peace which summarises Tresco. I've concentrated this time on summer light and its many moods, always beautiful, always captivating. You can really relax and unwind on Tresco and feel completely refreshed when you leave. It s a tonic to the soul. 31 Summer oil on canvas 97 x 101cm 3500

28 Jenny Ulyatt July 2018 Taken from a trip in August last year, these paintings emerge from a cocktail of sketches, photographs, memory and imagination. I love the dynamic and fluid nature of watercolour paint and it seems to particulary suit a place like Tresco. In these paintings I have tried to capture the pattern of lights and darks across the land and sea, whilst experimenting with bold patterns and textures. 51 Agapanthus meadow watercolour 30 x 50cm 400

33 David Thomas 24 July - 3 August 2018 Painting and drawing have been a hobby for all of my life, running in parallel with a career as an architect. I am attracted to images which have strong contrasts of light and shade, and these can be both portraits and landscapes. The Scilly Isles light provided plenty of opportunities to find such subjects for this series of watercolour landscapes. 60 St Nicholas church watercolour 21 x 27cm 525

38 Maggie O Brien 24 July - 3 August 2018 Every year I struggle to express the sublime beauty of Tresco with its unique, ever changing light and stunning, varied landscape. In this collection I have tried to depict the island in all the seasons as, over the years, I have been lucky enough to visit Tresco in almost every month. It is simply my favourite place. 70 Agapanthus in the dunes oil on canvas 40 x 50cm 695

43 Stuart Kettle 24 July - 3 August 2018 I am always looking for new ways of portraying life on the islands. This year is a mix of sea, sand, food, flowers and found objects. Inspired by Ben Nicholson I continue to develop my own style of painting. I hope you enjoy my work and your stay on Scilly. 80 Sunrise on Scilly oil on board 80 x 80cm 1400
