2 1 Walk Scilly Weekend 2016 #walkscilly Walks on the wild side Autumn is here on Scilly and with it warm or windswept days with beautiful softer hues, amazing island sunsets, fields of golden scented narcissi, hedgerows bursting with life and a wealth of birds and wildlife. The perfect ingredients for a wonderful Walk Scilly weekend! October on Scilly has much to offer visitors to the islands. The weather is often kind and the islands quieter, yet the wildlife is simply spectacular with glorious resident and migrating birds to admire across the islands, seal pups to spot, and Scilly shrews to seek out. The hedgerows and rock pools, too, are fantastic for foraging walks with fruits and flora awaiting the harvest. Many of our wild walks will let you explore intimately this special side to Scilly. Coupled with the wildlife walks are a few old favourites - and one or two new ambles all designed to give you a splendid insight into our islands history, archaeology and a real taste of island life. Take in Ancient St. Mary s and the Histories of Teän and Samson, take a Walk through Time on Bryher, learn more about the islands churches, or sample St. Agnes Top to Toe. Check out the Island Life walk on St. Martin s and scenic St. Mary s photography walk, or take a guided stroll of Tresco. Not forgetting the Welcome Ramble and Party at Juliet s Garden, there s something for everyone. Walk Scilly is a brilliant opportunity to see Scilly at its best and we couldn t do it without the help of the Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust, our local charity which manages over 60% of the islands and many of the islands footpaths. We hope you enjoy this very special weekend. Walk Grades 1 Easy easy stroll on road and path, level walk, no hills. 2 Moderate fairly easy walk on road and path, some incline. 3 Hard fairly strenuous, several inclines/hills on path and road. Equipment Most walks are best made in sturdy footwear or boots. The weather can change quickly on Scilly, so a light waterproof may be advisable some days. By the same token, don t forget suncream. Even in October, the sun on Scilly is strong. Don t forget your cameras! Virtually every walk has its spectacular moments and you ll be kicking yourself if you miss some great shots. Finally, a water bottle is also advisable. Booking tickets Unless otherwise indicated all of the events referred to in this programme require a ticket. To obtain your walk and boat tickets please call the Walk Scilly Team on or your requirements to events@visitislesofscilly.com and we will get back to you. The programme is subject to change, variation & cancellation. The Tourist Information Centre (TIC) at Porthcressa, St. Mary s is great place to find out more about Walk Scilly. Between 13th and 17th October there will be dedicated Walk Scilly assistants available to answer all of your queries. You can contact the TIC on Walk Scilly tickets only refunded if cancelled due to bad weather. NB: Boat tickets not included in price Dogs on leads welcome A beach landing is required 2
